Just home in time from Scotland to do the race, but not much time to practice for this one. Only had time to try two cars last week. Surprisingly, the Challenger was faster than the Camaro for me, while it's been the other way round in the previous 3 races.
Had done a 43.8 lap in earlier practice, but couldn't quite match that on race day. Started 6th and had an almost race long battle with Bob. He got past when I made a mistake in the Lightbulb corner. Had gained places from others mistakes and was running 4th, but dropped to 5th. Couldn't let Bob get away and Dana was close behind, so concentrated driving was required.
Reclaimed 4th when Bob made a mistake. Gap extended a little, and I got my position uprated to 3rd, by Ati's exit. Was 9 secs ahead of Bob and 4 secs behind Clive, when I made a mistake in the Valley of the Lefts - put a rear wheel outside track and promptly went into a long, uncatchable slide. Didn't spin, but gaps were reversed - now 9 secs behind Clive and only 4 secs ahead of Bob and the rest of the pack chasing me..
Managed to hang on to the finish and got uprated again by Clive's untimely exit, to finish 2nd.
Very chuffed about this of course. Grats to Jose for the win and a very convincing drive, and commiserations to those who fell off along the way.
Loved the track; especially the fast T1 and T2 - thanks to Tony for a great pick, and to Bob for a great and fair race!
Cheers,
Erling
