Thanks Ziu regarding my qualy lap time - yesterday did my first sub 2:06 laps and had not thought I could get as low as I did.
Can't complain about the result, but not a good race for me. Held on to 2nd despite so-so start. Geoffers close behind and like Ziu mentions, we touched as he did an overtake move going into the stadium area. I came off the worst, spinning off onto the grass. 5th when I rejoined, sandwiched between Tony & Maipor. Tried putting pressure on Tony, but often when you're right behind another car, you lose your overview of the track and make mistakes. Thus ran a bit wide at T1, letting Maipor past.
Next lap I was right behind him & Tony, when they collided in the same turn. Tried to steer clear of them, but grazed Maipor's car as I went past. Didn't wait, as I didn't think I did anything wrong, but not sure after seeing the replay. I didn't initiate events, but definitely contributed to them, when I hit Maipor. Tony, if you feel some form of penalty is appropriate, I'll understand.
Thus 4th, chasing down Franky. Catching him was one thing; getting past another. Succeeded, but later lost the position to him again. New chase, but like with Tony, I tended to make mistakes when I got real close, thus handing a gap back to Franky and having to do all the hard work again repeatedly. With about 3 laps to go, he finally made a mistake in the stadium area, spinning out and handing me 3rd. Just had to hold it for 3 laps, which I did. Puzzled when I rounded the final corner, to see Geoffers crawling slowly towards the finish. Understood after the race, that he was giving me back 2nd, after our earlier contact. I was disappointed he didn't wait initially, but certainly didn't expect this. VERY gentlemanly of you Geoffers and probably more than called for !!
Too many incidents and too much frustration for it to be a good race, even though I absolutely love these cars. Commiserations to those who met with misfortune; especially Maipor & Bob, with apologies for the part I may have played in it
Grats to Ziu on the win and Geoffers for the final podium place.
Cheers,
Erling
