ahem.... except of course that there is no 4WD Jason. The physics engine in GPL does not model 4WD so all cars are effectively rear wheel drive. I suspect what you are experiencing is ...

a) the increased grip levels in 69's with wings etc
 and
b) the reduced power to weight ratio of the 63, that makes it more difficult to spin up the rear tyres, therefore giving you some very positive traction out of those slow corners.

Either way... yes!! it is a fun car to hustle around somewhere like Monaco Wink

Yeah that is real weird isn't it... The 63 has the most amazing traction out of the hairpins though... and torque-steers like crazy though I guess the latter is down to the bizarre default setup.......

Yeah this Lotus 63 has a weird default setup, you have to make it symetric at first to get it straight through the corners  Wink

I did some test laps and confirm that there is no 4WD, as you can make a power turn if you get caught in these narrow parts.

I'm fully aware that GPL does not model 4wd physics as that would require a major re-write of the pysics engine but somehow this car seems to have much better traction than the other cars from the 69x mod. (also, if it had true 4wd then the damn thing would understeer like crazy into every corner!)
Setup wise I've gone symmetric on the front wheel rates to dial out the apparant torque-steer but have left the rears asymmetic... Was happily bumbling around in the 25's but a banzai lap could produce a 24......  expect clive will p**** us all off with a 22 ..........

Apologies Clive for the wee tap that destroyed your GT in the hairpin....bizarre!! I didn't expect you'd hit the polos.....Sad
But the crash reaction was a little extreme considering the very minor, soft contact....don't you think?
Surprised how good the M1 felt at Rouen and manged a PB in the 2:04's. Suspect it might have been quietly melting tyres at that speed though, so will have to watch it.
Congrats Cookie.....you're flyin' in the Lola.

Couldn't join the first race and Mini struggled - anyone got a really neutral setup for the Lotus for Friday?

Second race was a praccy session for me for Sunday. I really can't drive the Ford but there you go. Got a 2:10 which was ok for me. Waited for Mini who was all over the place (he wouldn't take the advice to break early but he is 13 and knows better than his Dad!). Mini then punted me off three times and I gave up in a huff and went and shouted at him! Sigh.

We racing F2's tonight?

lol  I wondered who was responsible!!  It felt that I had been lifted on a crane and dropped back onto the wheels from a great height.

I suspect that something got even more deranged than usual in the suspension department because the big beast just refused to co-operate from then on and I retired after taking out some other unfortunate driver with a huge spin on the back straight.

As regards the Lotus 63.

I would suggest that you throw away the default setup as it is very assymmetric and I found it far too unstable around Monaco. It might give you the "chance" of a blistering lap, but keeping that level of control for 30 laps was a non starter for me.

Start by making the spring rates the same for both sides ( probably the lower of the two values in default)
Bump/ rebound I would set at 3 all round to start with
Bump rubbers set to zero
Front Toe in set at something that will give stability, maybe 0.125"
Rear toe out at something similar
The diff and clutch setup is down to preference and what you want is a car that will turn in easily and allow you to squeeze on the power without the tail flicking out and connecting with the barrier.
Ride height...... I always give myself a high setting at Monaco because if the suspension bottoms out as you try and nail the chicane...you ain't going to make it to Tabac  Roll Eyes.
Once you have done a few laps you can adjust camber angles to get tyre temps even and tweak the other settings to your liking.

Above all, as Joe discovered, around Moanaco you want a setup that gives you confidence and that will be very "safe". Survival is 80% of the battle here, speed another 10% and observation of cars having problems ahead the other 10%.
