Title: UKGTL Season 13 Lawrence Clemo Memorial Trophy - Isle of Man - May 13

All members welcome.

Grid/server capacity: 28

Practice: ~19:20 (80 mins)
Qualifying: Random Grid
Race: 20:40 (5 laps)

Track: Isle of Man Mountain Course Download this (http://www.gamefront.com/files/23246817/IsleOfManX_gtl.rar)

Cars allowed: Any standard TC-65 car plus Ford Anglia Download this (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_ford_anglia)

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal

Server: simracing.org.uk LCMT
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.
Special Notes: None

I think this will be the 3rd running of the Lawrence Clemo Memorial Trophy. Could we have a little reminder to why this event gets to take place please?

I remember racing him, I just think it would be nice to have a few words written, as a mark of respect & for the benefit of our drivers new & old.

Hope it's okay to suggest it.

Happy to oblige

Lawrence Clemo or LigelC, as most would perhaps know him, raced here and at other leagues in GTL and P&G events. It would be safe to say that his comfort zone was nearer the rear of the grid but his enthusiasm for sim racing was infectious and he made many friends during his time with us.
A nice memory of Lawrence would be this thread from 2010 https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=7609.msg134673#msg134673

His last race with us was in March 2010 and he succumber to his cancer on May 7th 2010.

Thanks Tony for spending a few kind words on our good friend LigelC. It was rather by accident that I came across this thread as I am not a UKGTL regular at the moment. I appreciate UKGTL  doing this "laurie"memorial event
every year. Laurie was someone liked by the entire simracing community because of his enthousiam and invariable cheerful mood. To me he was also my rearguard buddy in GPL and GTL. Many times when either of us accidentally managed to crawl too far up the leaderboard, we somehow slowed down a bit to be able to race eachother enjoying it immensely.
Being on holiday I can't join you gents in this race but will try to be at this special event next year. In memory of Good old Lawrence Clemo.

Yes LigelC and I had many a tussle  :fencing: to see which of us would avoid that last place.  Also by chats I found that he was also a former "Brat" (RAF Apprentice at No 1 S of TT RAF Halton) although we were there at the same time we never met 2000 to 3000 of us spread over 3 Wings with a large geographical separation.  :wheelchair:

Don't know if anyone else has tried to log on to server for this event but I've had no success.  Last night ping was 11 then went to --- , similar today except ping was 128 and ---.

I get good frame rates for GTL/GTR2/PnG and have 8Gb of RAM; off line the track takes an age to load with all that data - I was wondering if the server has a max time to load which if exceeded results in being dumped, like sending e-mails to people with very slow connections and getting them returned undelivered.

Advice/help please.

Well Bill, i can't confirm this as i have a problem of other kinds. Downloaded add-on car and track (Nice, TT course!) sadly when loading the track it crashed to desktop. Uninstalling the extra car and track it seems to still give the same problems, now with other tracks! Also my .plr file got corrupted.

Now i read somewhere installing a secondary GTL and copying the "game data" map into the existing GTL install could solve this. Can anyone confirm this?

Guy's, I checked the server and it was not loading the car set. Think I've fixed that now and I have just been on-line and successfully joined the on-line praccy session. Track load time was normal.

Would really appreciate some others trying to join on-line as time is counting down if I am to have to find a suitable replacement track.

Off line track loading bit faster than I remember - just the last chequered portion takes longer than usual say about 2 to 3 times longer.

Unfortunately the on-line attempts are just as described before and are a no go for my computer setup. Hopefully other drivers will take the hint and give it a whirl.

Seems ok online here. Takes a while to load but gets there eventually. Unfortunately I discoed halfway round my outlap  ::)

Not a fan of these loooooooooong Dan Dare tracks as they seldom produce a decent race imho. Just glad I don't have to do it for real....on 2 wheels  :o

Read on NoGrip forum that some GTR tracks could create a problem with files in a shared folder thingy. I will have a look into it to see if that is my problem. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

At first I presumed it was the add-on car, but un-installing didn’t solve it. Also making a trace file didn’t give much info to go on. So I think it is track related. I can always try to import a fresh game data file, but that is not solving the problem ofcourse! If I get it running I’ll try it in online modus.

You just have a problem with Mini's. Can you run a trace and post it?

This track was given to me directly by the creator but I do not know if it was firstly a GTR track. It has a LOD screen that looks GTR'ish but that doesn't 100% mean it's a GTR conversion. Can you post a trace file?

Right click your desktop icon. Select properties.

This example is from a GTR2 install.

H:\GTR2\GTR2.exe -trace=1000

Substitute your drive letter and GTR2 for whatever your GTL is called. Make sure it's pathed to where your .exe file is. Important point is the space between the e and -

It will produce a txt file probably in your Log folder but who knows. You may have to search for it. The trace can stay in your shortcut, it won't effect your sims running.

We’ve had a couple of unplanned events, so I’ve run out of time to sort out my access to IoM Server.  We’re preparing for sister in law’s visit, collecting her Monday and returning her Monday week.  Any spare time I can find I will use to reacquaint myself with Zolder and chose a car for that event.

I’m really sorry to miss this memorial event but I shall be thinking of LigelC next Monday, the many races we had (in two different racing leagues) and expect I’ll drink a toast to him.

Waddayouthink gents?

No idea but google took me to nogrip and one answer was this

I had this recently and it turned out to be a memory issue - fixed it by installing the 4gb memory patch (mentioned on forum here and easily googled) to remove the 2gb limit on the (32-bit) simbin .exe files. This assumes of course that you have more than 2gb...

4GB patch here http://www.gamefront.com/files/23286888/4gb_patch.zip

Run the exe and point it at your GTl.exe

Fingers crossed

I believe this 4GB memory patch is a Vista/windows7 thingy, but i will look into it. Thanks.

Now downloading GTR2/GTL shared folder files.... lets see how that go's (re-installing the add-on car and all works fine btw)

EDIT:
Nope shared folders upgrade didn't solve the problem either.

Will have a week look tomorow. I tried the Abarth and the Falcon both work fine so me thinks its defo a problem with the Mini.

Minis hate me cos I can't run the MvE champ either cos of stupid Mini's  :tank: Kill all the Mini's

I don't think so. Windows XP 32bit (which you have?) will not use more than 3GB? of RAM as when XP was written more RAM than that was uncommon. The patch enables the PC to use more RAM for the application it is used on. Hope that makes sense? There are more technical explanations on-line if you care to google for it.

EDIT: Or it may be GTL that won't use more RAM when it is available. There is a huge track called Targa Florio that I could never run until I applied the 4GB patch to my GTL.exe and my OS was Windows 7 with 12GB of RAM, so that's making me think it's a GTL thing and maybe not a Windows problem. Anyhow the 4GB patch worked for me back then so must be worth a try?

Lack of this patch could be my problem.  Would you please post a link so I can see if I can then access this track on line. Useful for next time we have a long track.

Yes i run XP-32bit with only 1,5 Gb RAM (now dont laugh please, its my oldie desktop) but tracks like the Nordschleife would load with lot of AI cars no problem.
Reading next bit of google i am not sure if it will do anything to my system:

"This very little tool patches x86 executables in order to let them have 4GB (instead of only 2) of virtual memory on x64 platforms. This tool comes very handy for applications which need a great amount of virtual memory like games, 3D renderization, multimedia etc. To gain these 2GB, you just have to use this tool to patch the executable (*.exe file) of the software you want to have these additional GBs of virtual memory. It can be used by clicking on it and choosing the file or through command line (e.g.: "4gb_patch file.exe"). It automatically creates a backup copy of the original executable. "
This lets rfactor use 4GB of RAM (on 64 bit machines with more than 4GB!) rather than 2GB and can prevent MANY CTDs due to too many AI. It is now possible to run 100+ AI, provided your machine and OS are both 64 bit and you have at least 4GB of RAM.

I think your right. The RAM has to be in place physicaly, before you can use it virtualy  ;)

No problems offline here - but avoid to leave the track! More than difficult to come back on it.
So tactics to finish the race should be: patience, prudence and lobbed gas pedal  ;)

Tried that but up near mountain peak went over fence  and couldn't get back again. ::)  Don't think there will be many finishers.

Random grid introduced as 20min of qualy wouldn't be enough time to get any times posted (probably)  ::)

I won't be attending, loading the track keeps crashing on my PC. I will be focusing on the next event then. Good luck all.

That's a shame mate. Consider buying more RAM? See you at Zolder which is a standard track e.g. you already have it installed  ;)

Might be something wrong with server or my comp.

Map loads then says loading tony then me then flashes loading tony constantly and says toni is in GTL safety car.

Also game looks fine when i get on track but no car sounds.

Was working perfectly fine during the week on the server so no idea whats going on

If the screen keeps loading me it means you don't have my Ford Anglia on your GTL

Yetanotherruddydisco  :( 48 secs ahead and treating it like a Sunday afternoon drive in the country. Was even driving on the left for most of it  ::)

Oh well, nice that we remember Laurie in this way every year and long may it continue  8)

I was really enjoying that, but decided to pit at the end of lap one to fix my bent steering. I was sat there patiently for just over a minute when I lost conection to the server :'( (about 10 yards short of a full lap )

A real shame, as even driving on your own it was a very entertaining course!

No completed my first lap here and got too cocky - went over fence and drove for ages behind the fence trees etc until I came to a long wall, at right angles to track, which obviously would have meant a trip to La La land.  I turned around to see if I could get out the other way and got DQed for driving in wrong direction. Such is life.

No idea

But Matt and Legzy left at about the same time, then I had a disco so that left Kurt, Bill and GT. The results record who took part and that's it.

The server would report it as who ever crossed the line first on the final full lap completed I guess.

Did anybody complete a 2nd lap?

Sadly, I don't think anyone completed a 2nd lap.

Happily, I was leading on the only completed lap

In which case.................. I thank you

Well done fellas specially GT lol.

The thing with racing bikes here is that they are smaller so easier to get round the corners. try truck racing that would be fun :-)
