Being as we are mostly Brits I would like to know why Silverstone continues to be the "home" of the British Grand Prix, having been there afew times I think the place is a dump it looks shabby the spectator viewing is really poor and the track lacks any real character. I realise that the pit facilities at Brands and Donny are not that great but lets face it nor are Silverstones and those two tracks would need less money spent on them to make them "world class".
Also the contract for the Grand Prix was awarded to Brands but the BRDC then goes and takes over Brands to get their grubby little mits on the contract.

Was it really? Thats amazing.

You would have thought Bernie's contract would have specified the track!

I pretty much hate Silverstone, the only good corners is the one after the bridge, and the first 2-3.

Sorry for my inaccuracy 97-99 were somewhat "hazy", still doesn't change the fact that at best Silverstone is 3rd rate.

Silverstone is a lot more up-to-date than Brands (although Brands improved a little last year with the A1GP). However, the spectating at Silverstone is complete pants, so far away from the track it's awful. Brands Hatch is still pretty much an old school British motor racing venue (shabby, although not quite at the depths of the even more "traditional" circuits like Castle Combe or Snetterton), but to watch it it's a brilliant brilliant spectator venue, great views and close to the circuit.

As a racing track I quite like Silverstone actually (to race on in games) so I think I'm in a minority there and in F1 the races have been some of the better ones at Silverstone than all the other circuits in the F1 calendar imho.

The problem with Brands is that there is nowhere to expand the pit garages too, it's enclosed by it's own race track so they can't get any bigger.

I thought Silverstone with its scaffold grandstands couldnt get more old school Wink but if you compaire it to most other international race tracks it really is a state. Maybe the BRDC should consider making a new track altoghther but not get Herman Tilke to design it!

Yes I'm sure you're right, Silverstone compared to other nations I'm sure is pants. Unfortunately compared to the rest of UK it's actually pretty good, it has some tarmac car parking for a start!  Smiley

Yeah the Formula 1 is a problem, but the rest of the time I guess there's enough car parking in the tarmac'd/gravelled bit?

they use cheap tarmac, my yamaha R1 side stand sank into the tarmac leaving the stuff all over it so it  wouldn't trip the micro switch to start the engine. had to scrap it of  with house leaving me with no way to into house and a dame rusty sidestand, as for the amount of speed cameras coming from swindon way license lost before you get there, as for the  f1 i cant tell the differace between practice and the race, the money they charge is nuts, nakano56 went to monza for £20 more and got travel, hotel, 3 day pass,

yeh i do assen moto gp and Amsterdam for the price,  good racing, good women. the f1 doing a good job of destroying it self, having said that i seen so early f1 coverage and the racing never been that good, don't get me wrong there have been some good years but it always 1 team dominate, the only time i  remember good racing is when the best driver was in the second best car senna/mansal. i think they should go to rockham ring to race at least the toilets are clean
