Definitely! My careers advisor as school really missed a trick when she suggested I do 'something arty' rather than, say, be a member of the Foo Fighters or drive around the Nurbugring for a living  :'( Grin

I was lucky enough to get a couple of laps as a passenger in a GT3 Cup racing car a few weeks ago. Went over for the VLN 4 hour race and a friend of a friend was racing as part of a 3 man team. The friday sessions they are allowed to take passengers so I got one of the best (and scariest) roller coaster rides around  Shocked The whole thing was an extreme assault on your senses - no sound deadening at all means not only is the engine VERY loud, but you can hear the diff, the gearbox, the suspension creaking, everything! Coupled to the intense heat (no aircon, just a couple of big pipes), the roll cage, 2 huge fire extinguishers under my legs and all enclosing seat (with head protection) this was far and away the most vivid driving experience I've ever had. The performance was amazing as you would expect, with slick tyres and 420 bhp (apparently)  in 1100Kgs. Heaven knows what a GT would be like! No video obviously, but here are a few pics:

This is the car:

Wow, amazing stuff Paul. I like pic 2. The driver is clearly looking at your friend and thinking "poor chap- you have no idea whats coming next" Wink

Nice pics m8! I hope I can go over there once (or twice Wink) too. Cheesy Preferably driving, lol, but passenger would be cool! Off-race weekends they let the public drive there I believe (like Jeremy in Top Gear)!

Hocheihen pic is a lot more steep/hilly than while your driving it in game by the way. Smiley

I've driven 5 laps in James's focus 170 (surprisingly good car, especially when James drives it!), but I'm hoping to get the 968 over there when funds allow. Had some other passenger rides in quick cars on the public day on Sunday - Lamborghini Gallardo, 911 964 RS, 968 Club Sport (M030), all of which were great but nothing compares to the race car.

The whole place is very hilly - 1000ft top to bottom. We walked a lot of the circuit on race day and it was hard work. In real life it feels a lot more vertical than vids or games can show. The steep bit you can see is around flugplatz.

I've got a few mini-vids from the race. Not great quality as they are flash to save space but they have nice sounds:

Nice vids, especially 3rd. If you want I can host the originals for better quality :^D Sounds like a good idea anyways to make a page with our real life vids?!

Someone actually drove a Gallardo and let you in? Wink

Cool

You are welcome to them - they are not that much better to be honest since they were taken on my little Ixus pocket camera (as were all the pics), but let me know how to upload them and I will. I have a bunch of other pics too if you are interested.

Must be getting old, I kept thinking Poor Astra/Polo/Whatever driver, its ok for the BMW driver, he's got exp and a rollcage (prolly). The Polo man is a spotty teenager with no training (prolly), no rollcage and is probably incapable of acting sensibly with a car that much faster behind him.
