Season 39 – 1967 F1 (Privateers) – Round 4 – Zolder

For Round 4 of the 67F1 Privateers championship we will race at Zolder in Belgium. Built in 1963, Zolder hosted the Formula One Belgian Grand Prix on 10 separate occasions in the 1970s and 1980s, as well as the 1980 Belgian motorcycle Grand Prix. F1 moved to Zolder in 1973 and with the exception of a race at Nivelles-Baulers in 1974, Zolder was the location of the Belgian Grand Prix until 1982. That year, Canadian driver Gilles Villeneuve was killed during qualifying at the 1982 Belgian Grand Prix. Villeneuve's Ferrari 126C2 collided at speed with the March of Jochen Mass. The Ferrari was torn up in the accident and when rolling, Villeneuve was thrown from the car.

After Villeneuve's death, the Belgian Grand Prix was held at Spa-Francorchamps in 1983, before returning to Zolder one final time in 1984. Fittingly, Ferrari driver Michele Alboreto won the race carrying Villeneuve's #27 on his car. Since 1985, the Belgian Grand Prix has permanently moved to Spa.

Can't get this track to load into my 67 seasons file though it shows in the tracks directory  ::)

You could try a manual install into your Seasons folder. 

Open the folder and click open the 67season.ini.  Add these lines at the bottom of the text :

startingGrid=3

You'll need to fill in the Event number, and also at top of page : numEvents.  Both will be +1 .  Save file.
This tells the Sim where to find your track folder.  Go Bernie!  :balloon:

Cheers Fran , tried that but no go . I even deleted tracks from the 67 seasons and tried other seasons , still have zilch  :-[

Are you sure that it isn't just hiding?

It lists itself as Grands Prix du Limbourg(zolder67) and it took me ages to spot it.

If you can join the pre-race test Server, you're on the right track.

Bernie, The errors in a season.ini file are not always associated with the track you are trying to run. I have a season.ini file for my server which works if you want to try it. Just replace your 67season.ini file with the following code:

Just got back from Wales and have got it sorted .

Now for my customary 3 laps of practice in order to establish a new WS track record

(WS = Worlds Slowest ) get it !  ;D

At this point I don't know what to think.Only 4 laps and the hader is gone and i have always changed gear before the red.

Damn! Lap 14 and I blow the engine up. :(  It was fun until then.

Note to self: Train in PRO mode.

I really hate such a track...
I missed a gear on turn 1 after my PB of the race and I went off the track.
First DNF of the season.

I ended up inheriting second place

I was sad with so many abandonments

Mainly with the abandonment of Hunt

We were in a good fight, with Hunt faster than me, I wouldn't be able to hold it for long

Another thing, thank you very much Hunt, for being extremely clean in the disputes.

Stupid game with its stupid camshafts!

Engine went as I was pretty much stopped for some tight corner.
I thought I'd been taking it fairly easy once I'd seen a puff of smoke from the back of Fran's car.
At least I was not 1/2 a lap from scoring points!

Loved this track but my masterpiece of Italian engineering wasn't up to being thrashed to death . I was surprised to to finish P4 after playing tail end charley !

There were engine innards aplenty, from the destructive mechanical frenzy, that spewed fouth amidst the Zolder F1 rerun, of 2021 . . . . .  they don't pay me for this stuff!

My race soon became a tight battle with an equal car, of equal pace.  We kept a tight formation for half the race, until Dulima made the wise choice to let me pass.  I immediately tried to break his tow with my right foot, but instead broke my tail, which became loose at the first bend.  It went tail first into the sand berm at a huge 10mph, and me without my bucket & spade.  Grumble! :-\

This track takes no prisoners. A wheel on the kerb invariably ends with the car beached up on the raised banks or in the catch fences. Consistent laps to the finish was going to be a good strategy.
I only had one major excursion off road & was fortunate to spin back onto the tarmac.
Happy with a podium finish. Philippe drove a great race & was welll deserving of the win. Congratualations to Dumila & others who made it to the flag

Some words for David Sochenna.  Sad to see you were unale to race with us again.  A good idea would be to try the practice Server before the race.  We had 2 days for practice.  Many connects and immediate disconnects at the official race meeting, are not good.  Wishing you better luck.  :surrender:

It's a sad thing to see so many motors break, and especially for Francesco, who has for years had the highest kill rate.  So a few words, for those who came to GPL via modern Sims, or who are puzzled or perplexed with 1967. :taz:

1967 is the original Sim version.  Models are hugely improved from original, but physics remain 1998.  The Papyrus engineers made these cars work with as much realism as possible.  That included realistic racing motors from 1967.  That meant no electronic ignition, or onboard computers, and only pitboards for communication. 

Real racing saw many more mechanical failures 50 years ago.  These could come from an experimental part, a part time mechanic, or from driver error.  Papyrus chose to add ALL these factors in, for maximum realism.  These were early days for Sim racing.  Most have since discovered that maximum realism is only best for most things.  Failure rates have been reduced in all GPL Mods.  I don't know any real race drivers who would prefer more!

A sign that extra thought and imagination, may have started to kick in, are race starts.  The trend over the years I've been Online, has been to gun the motor, release the clutch, and let the traction control do the rest.  I've made up many places by not doing this!  These are not F1's of 2020 - look to history. 8)

This Sim comes as close to 1967 as possible.  Drivers now as then, have their strengths and weaknesses, This Sim, and especially this year will find them, and that makes 1967 special.

I totally agree. I was just a muppet and missed a gear (H-Shifter/Clutch). Pure driver error. Cosworth engine doesn't like max revs and no gearbox. :(
