16  UKGTL / UKGTL Races / Re: UKGTL Season 12 The Fifties - Leipzig - Nov 13 on: November 14, 2012, 03:26:17 AM +0000
Results and replay now posted.

What I want to know is, how did Navin drive the Mercedes that fast. Incredible.

Well thank you Tony, but from my end it wasn't anything special Wink. Other than a good amount of laps at this track from the past and the fact that the Merc seemed to be in it's element here. With it's light weight and low power it wasn't affected by the cobblestone nearly as much as the others. The big Maserati was truly diabolical here  Shocked. Other than that the Merc really seemed to have a nice turn in behavior that allow me to take a quick set turning in and than you could really hustle it through the middle of the turn. Plus on exit with it's low power you didn't have to modulate the throttle much and just mash it! One more thing is some tracks just fit ones driving styles and for some reason I've always gotton on well here. In contrast one track that I can't seem to figure out is Brno in GTR2. When I am almost always faster then certain drivers at most if not all other tracks by a second or two it's just the opposite when we are at Brno where I'm off their pace by a second or so Undecided.
Too bad for the low turnout but thank you both Tony and Matt for the race and I'm glad we did soldier through and all of us finished Cool.

Wow, an action packed race from the get go. Lots of fun with all the different cars up front. Was great to have Jose and Kurt with us in this race. I hope you guys can join us for some more races in the very near future. Please check out the 50's series F12FIFT as I believe it is the best new thing that has come around for GTL in a long time  Wink. A very big congrats to Mark for getting the Boss to the finish line 1st!! Awesome job fighting almost the whole top 5 to the top spot. It was like tag team wrestling for first  Cheesy. Good stuff Grin.
21  UKGTL / UKGTL Races / Re: UKGTL Season 12 The Fifties - Spa (1947-78) - Oct 30 on: November 02, 2012, 05:41:17 PM +0000
Before the race I was trying several cars to find a balance for some good racing but with this tracks long long straights it was perhaps impossible to do Undecided. I didn't feel like driving the Jag again because for me it's a twitchy thing that makes driving more work than fun. Gave the Ferrari a first try and loved it's handling traits. Wished I had tried it before as it might be my new favorite despite it's lack of top speed. Before the race I thought the race might be closer with the front guys as I was only off their time by 2-3 seconds. But in the race the others found a bit more speed while I was already at my max limit. And yes Tony!! That was a very well executed pass as it took me a bit by surprise Shocked. I looked back before the corner(Masta) and thought "Tony will wait for the next straight for the pass". And then BINGO!! you stuck one on me like Ol' Nigel Mansell use to do so well Tongue Cheesy. It was well done as you drove in deep that didn't affect my entry at all but I thought you might have trouble on the exit because of your middle of the track corner entry, but that was not the case and on you went Grin. After that I saw Matt was closing down on me as well and I was a lame duck. Matt dispatched me quickly and was on my own for the rest of the race but that was OK as the Ferrari really is fun to drive and as always love this version of Spa Cool.
Sorry Kurt about your bad luck as I know the frustration of practicing a lot before this track and then having the rug pulled out from underneath oneself. I got over the wall on the backside of the track(Holowell) a couple of years ago and was unable to continue as I couldn't find a way back to the track blink. Thanks to all the usual suspects for showing up Cool. Congrats to Ross for the victory and I really hope you continue in this wonderful series Smiley.
22  UKGTL / UKGTL Races / Re: UKGTL Season 12 Shelby AC Cobra Challenge - Reims (1954-72) - Oct 29 on: October 30, 2012, 07:03:55 PM +0000
First off I would like to respectfully disagree that using the 427 would of been a better idea. You would of been at the top speed rpm limit more of the time with the 427. Mark and myself were in 289 Cobras. Mark in the FIA and myself in the regular version. The regular Cobra accelerates a bit quicker from the slow corners while the FIA Cobra accelerates a bit better from 4th gear on. FIA has better brakes. They both have almost the same top speed with the FIA with a very slight edge(but seemed to be the same in top speed when I was in the draft). Mark and myself had a wonderful battle for the first half of the race with neither of us able to get away from the other. It was as good as it gets yes. For the most part Mark was ahead of me but I tried several tactics to see where I was stronger. The best part was exiting the last DD corner with Mark ahead of me I was able to use the draft a bit and when shifting into 3rd my regular Cobra would gain a car length or so and along with a slingshot draft we would cross the finish line in a dead heat. It all depended on who got the slightly better exit from the last corner. It was such a shame that we could not of finished that way to see how it might of played out. Thanks for the good battle Mark Grin. Congrats to Geoffers for the win. Hristo for second. Also to Matt for his solid pody.

Who put the buxom dolly in the green sweater on the entry to last corner. to distract our attention?  Tongue  Kiss Kiss  Evil

Just when I thought this was the most boring of tracks eek Double apex corner? No. But double D? Yes drool

That was another fun race at one of my favorite tracks. Got the gift at the start and like Tony said I dropped a wheel at Druids which made me have a quick but harmless off. After that I tried to catch Tony but you did a great job at being consistant and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't put a dent into your lead. I never gave up so that was not only a first win in GTL for you Tony but a well deserved one as I was always right behind you waiting for for any error which didn't happen. thumbup1 Good show indeed. The biggest of congrats to you Tony  Grin

Navin, if you have a desktop PC I'd give Windows 8 a wide berth mate. It's primary function seems to be focused on touch screen devices. Do some looking around (reviews etc) and you'll see what I mean.

Yes Tony, I've been reading all the scuttlebutt about Windows 8 with it's touch screen based system. The good thing is most company's will still sell Windows 7 computers at least for a few months so I may just go that way if Windows 8 does turn out to be a stinker for mouse based PC's. 8 Releases this week so I'll have my ear to the ground and make a decision in due time to get Windows 7 if that is the way to go. But thanks for the heads up T Wink. Cheers

Sad My PC has died.......... possible PSU or worse.......Sorry guys another race missed.  Sad

Arrghh Mark.. My PC has started to limp around a bit as well. Just started the process of getting up to speed on all things PC after ...If you can believe this.. Over 12 years with the same motherboard and CPU combo. I'm even on like 6 years on this OS install Shocked. And yes it's XP still so I guess I'll be a Windows 8 user in the near future. Not looking forward to the big switch so good luck with your troubles Mark Wink

What an absolute blast that race was. I'll say that this series has been the most fun and the biggest surprise of the year Grin. I practiced a bit with the DB-1 and 2 before the race and then did a few laps in the Jag. I really didn't like the Jags tendency for throttle on snap oversteer but realized that it would be the best choice for some good close racing. And boy howdy that was the best thing I could of done Smiley.  Had some of the best close racing of the year Cool. I could fly though the first half of the track and then lose time on the back half. Matt was very consistant driving the beast Wink and I was a little less with the twitchy Jag. I sure hope that more racers will give this series a try or those that have before give it another run Wink.  Come on fellas the water is fine!! Thanks for the good racing fellas and congrats to Matt for a solid win and to Kurt for a well deserved 3rd place.
28  UKGTL / UKGTL Races / Re: UKGTL Season 12 GT Cup '76 - Monza (1976-93) - Oct 15 on: October 16, 2012, 06:59:11 PM +0100
Had a horrible start bogging it from the very beginning. Was dead last going into the first sets of corners. Just tried to be smooth and consistent from that point. Like Syd said, I closed in slowly and then ran for many laps behind Syd who was being very consistent. Our laps times were so close. I just tried to position myself for a pass if an opportunity materialized. Syd made a very small mistake exiting the Variante Della Roggia and I was on it through for 3rd. Syd then kept the pressure on me for the next few laps until I felt a loss in power and whamo she blew up!! Shocked. I must admit I didn't even look at my cars health at the beginning or at any point in the race Roll Eyes . So a GTL XP 101 error for me Tongue. Excellent battling with you Syd Cool just the same. Congrats Syd for a well deserved pody. Also grats to Berger and Geoffers.

Sorry so long to respond but I've had company around for about a week!! Nice to have family around but even better to have the house to myself again as well Grin It was great to have the race on Monday morning as my company went to brunch with some extended family so I had a nice little break to race Grin. Not much to say other than alone most of the race but after Hristo mistakes I was able to close up a bit and on the last lap Hristo had a mini spin exiting the inner loop and was a gentleman driver by not closing the door on me entering the outer loop Cool. I didn't get a good exiting having to pinch the car down but I did defend the inside line going into the second to last corner. Hristo came around the outside and although I might of been able to try a cheap shot going into the last corner I quickly said to myself he was fair in the outer loop so I should be the same here and the right person won the race Wink. Congrats Hristo. At least I know I got your heart pumping for that last set of corners Cheesy Cheers boys
30  UKGTL / UKGTL Races / Re: UKGTL Season 12 The Fifties - Monza (Full 10km) - Oct 2 on: October 03, 2012, 09:39:02 PM +0100
Had a good start from the back and like Tony I was able to drive right through the kaos for 3rd place. Matt caught me in a few laps and I was on my own from that point on. Was just hitting my marks trying to bring her home when I understeered exiting the first banking on the oval. I was grinding the front end on the armco and it would not let go. It grabbed me so hard that it eventually threw me over the wall and I was done for Sad.
