(thats just for information purposes as i know you guys who spent all of 5 minutes trying it deem it boring and have discounted it). Not quite arcadey enough for ya aye? Wink

I don't give a rats a** if it's more realistic or not. GTL is all about fun for me and P&G doesn't offer that....FOR ME!

Eventhough you used a "Wink", using provoking remarks like that isn't smart, just as you did in the suggestion thread for an add-on car.

Keep it civil, guys - we've done the P&G v. GTL subject to death already once and those who are doing the "on the ground" running of UKGTL have made their decision for this decision quite clear and labouring the point isn't going to change that.

Calm down MJ! You haven't been at the Cinzano already have you?

I really don't care whether we use GTL or P&G, just as long as people remember not to race these things like bumper cars. Having played Forza (complete with having to pay for repairs), I try to avoid contact whenever possible.

the problem with last night was not just T1, there were incidents kicking off all around the track. You would brake normally for a turn in, only to either get thumped hard up the jacksy by someone or watch a car come careening up the outside or inside and fly off the track because they hadnt braked anywhere near enough. Those same people must have braked more normally in qually or they wouldnt have set the times they did, so why forget all that and use other cars as brakes in the race  Huh

As for P&G, the damage modelling is far superior, even more so than the stock GTR2 cars have, as the mod team edited all the relevant files to make it more realistic. Any crunches like last night and it would be a trip to the pits or end of race. Its very easy to bend a front suspension piece or break off the front wing etc when hitting something suitably hard.  The MARA league who raced GPL for years have embraced it as their sim-race of choice and i am pretty sure they know their stuff.(thats just for information purposes as i know you guys who spent all of 5 minutes trying it deem it boring and have discounted it). Not quite arcadey enough for ya aye? Wink
Get over yourself willya, I was in MARA before and after they were testing P&G. That's the main reason I left. So no I didn't spend 5mins with it thank you

The only UK based GTL community which races every Monday night. We are always looking for new drivers of all ages and abilities. GTL here since 2006.

I don't think it's fair to Alienate the people without GTR2. I would like to give P&G A shot when it has a complete car list, however.

...Dusts off cobwebs.....

Great article on the soon to be released P&G mod version 2 in autosimsport magazine http://www.autosimsport.net/ this month, featuring a whole bevy of tasty GTC 65 racing cars.

"Brake fade, historically correct suspension geometry, never-before seen
updates to the GTR2 graphics-engine, over forty types of tyre compounds,
thousands of hours of research, aerodynamic lift, exact-period-specific skins …
and we’re still merely scraping at the the textures of this monumental tour de
force that the GTL Workshop will unleash this autumn …"

and....

"“I took a bunch of cars out for a spin around Le Mans; the
Shelby Le Mans, 275Speciale, GT40 in some flavour or another,
all from the two-litre plus class. It’s been a while since a sim-car
actually scared me like the GT40 did. That thing is pure bloody
hell, and I love it. On every corner it wants to kill you, and do it
quickly. There is no smooth option. You just have to beat it into
submission and hope you’re tougher than it is. And with the
right gearing set, it will quite happily go down the ‘straight’ at
190mph. It’s the only car of the bunch that I was having to slow
for the kink. But then, I was slowing it to a speed still faster
than the Ferrari could manage. Then it tries to take off over the
crest, and you’d better pray your brakes still work for that
nasty right-hander. After that, it gets really scary. If the back
isn’t stepping out, then the car is going to go wide, and carry
on going wide until you hit something.
“The 275 really is something special though. I could run a series
in that thing. Just give me ’67 spa, Les Essarts, Le Mans, and
‘Nords’, and I'll be gone for weeks.”

sounds rather good to me  Cool

that, of course, is a matter of opinion !. i thought the 65 saloon cars in P&G 1 were excellent and felt more realistic to me than anything we drive in GTL. Having driven Mark 1 cortinas, escorts etc quite hard for real and also been a passenger in my dads 60's sports cars, they hit the right bells for me.
Unfortunately the mod died off quite soon from the radar due to lack of racers/leagues using it.
I guess the limited number of exciting cars sealed its early demise.  Undecided

GTL has lost its gloss for me lately, with the crappy damage modelling and suspect physics so i would love it if this turned out to be the de-facto historics racing sim of choice.

Wink Yes Mark it was indeed a shame it died a death, those IROC 911's were beautiful cars to drive imo, the way the drifted on the power was sublime, maybe these cars (update) will have more of an impact and give more knife edge driving, the only car that's like that is GTL atm is the Escort.

..ah, dont even get me started on the IROC 911's...still the best sim cars ive ever driven for 'real feel'  drool wub

I found it quite painful that i couldnt find online races using them anywhere  :'(  Me and Bernie Lomax had some great fun racing each other on a few tracks and they were great for offline races too after i tweaked the ai files for closer racing.

Grin Just tried the Lotus Cortina works and Alfa Volumetrica?? around Donington National, compared to GTL its like comparing chalk and cheese tbh, once the tyres get up to temp (both understeer everywhere before that) they are little beasties  Smiley , Cortina turns in nicely and then slides through the corner with slight oversteer, the Alfa just wants to kill you everywhere, poo brakes, very grabby and fade a bit and turn in and exit oversteer! wonderful.

Although the GTL versions are also quite adjustable cars (moreso the Alfa), these versions are almost unstable in comparison, whereby they move around so much more under braking and slide more progressively (Cortina) its actually......hold your breath.....more fun to extract a time from them as you have to work so much harder to get it.

Can't wait for update.

As a query, any chance of using the server for us die hards on friday evening or something like that to let us see how we get on with it?

Anyone interested?

tbh I wish I'd persevered more before now I realise what I've been missing. many apologies Mark  :'(

Hmm, this may actually get off the ground now, good car choice, and it sounds very cool.

I for one wasn't overwhelmed by the first release, and I did take part in some P&G league races at Gamers Crib to give it a fair go, but I will ignore all that and start afresh with Ver.2. Shame it probably isn't going to be available over Christmas, would have been nice to have a full go at it while I'm off work.  Never mind, something to look forward to for 2009.
