Guys,

I have seen a few discussion lately regarding the up and coming PnG Clubmans season and I thought it might be worth getting a new thread going to make sure we are all on the same page about the principles behind this Clubman approach.
Will try and keep it brief!

Background:
Started by the mighty sbg and continuing with Legzy and Wiltshire Tony in PnG.
We've had a few test races, we've had some great racing but I'm not sure everyone is convinced yet!?
We're talking Clubmans NOT PnG !

Potential Issues...
1. The car / class groupings may cause frustration at times! ( I don't want to use that car, why can't I use this one! etc. )
2. Race specific target times may be unobtainable by some or too easily available for others.
3. Will the top drivers end up at the sharp end come the end of the season?

With these in mind, I suggest we need a 'Gentlemans agreement' to make this work...

1. We all need to give the organisers as much support as possible by picking the correct cars and don't get frustrated when your particular car / track combination means you are not as competitive as you feel you should be at a particular race.

2. We need to commit to the season, ensure we get full grids so that come season end we have a large amount of experience to fine tune season 2.

3. Respect the huge amount of work that the organisers are putting in. I'm sure we will all be tempted to have a moan when we disagree with car / group and track choices. I have seen some of the work these guys have been putting, the numerous spreadsheets and endless testing etc. They have a monsterous amounts of data on all this!

Ok, I've started this to try and get everyones buy in!?

What do you all think?
Anyone want to agree/disagree, add more points to the agreement!?

M.

Nice one Martin

I think you missed the one about it being fun and not taking the seriousness to extremes (you want that then go sign up for iRacing)

I have no problems with your suggestions. The only time I can see that I will trouble the scorers will be in the amount of practice I get.

I'm not a great practicer or setter uperer of cars (Mrs Oilseal wont allow me the time - she seems to think its unsociable - strange woman)

The point to all this rambling is that I'm in the "slow guys take faster cars group" and most times I race, because I dont practice, I get faster in the quali and race. So this could skew my position. If that happens then I have no problem being moved up a notch for the next race by the organisers.

I suspect that over a season I'll finish up where I belong.........at the back.

I also think you are right about committing to the full season and not picking and choosing where and when to race because "I dont like that car or that track"........you know who you are.

I'll just be glad to get some races in following my recent back and shoulder problems providing nobody is drug testing for anti inflammatories. Well I do race for Team Oldie and I feel my insulin injections give me an edge LOL

I'm looking forward to the PnG as I think its one of the best mods and the cars have a great feel.

That's my 2 pennorth then

Well said Blunder, i understand what you mean. Although the P&G seemed to be
an even more "gentleman driver" spirit than usual.

I would love to be able to commit to a season but at 71 years young with COPD its sadly unrealistic.  So if it becomes a hard agreement I'd have to drop out.  This is also applicable to the GTL season thats about to start.

We appreciate that not everyone has the luxury to practise and attend every single event that we are planning to hold. That's a given as far as I'm concerned. I myself know that forthcoming work commitments will make the P&G meets hard to attend every fortnight, and even some GTL's may be touch and go during August/September.

What we do need is the knowledge that when you do take the time to practise and attend one of our races you have a thouroughly good time. Speaking personaly, that's the only reason I'm doing this.

The Clubmans approach is new (for us), it's probably not perfect yet (please give us time), but it will work if you Gentlemen comply to the requirements set out for each race.

The only UK based GTL community which races every Monday night. We are always looking for new drivers of all ages and abilities. GTL here since 2006.

As for me, I will give you (Admins/Organizers) all the time to do whatever you need.
Untill now, your work is great and i appreciate it very much. Thanks for your time doing
all the work for us.  Wink

Dont you dare drop out Laurie.... no one would expect that.. you know the best way to deal with COPD is to bloody well enjoy yourself and if this is how you do it I will personally skin anyone who stops you.... and I dont mean fit them out with a new number and a pretty paint job!!

Yup, I agree they're all potential issues that I'll be doing my best to counter them all (by maximising drivers choices & being as thourough as I can).

2. We need to commit to the season, ensure we get full grids so that come season end we have a large amount of experience to fine tune season 2.
Don't worry LigelC, I don't think Martin's saying "If you can't guarantee your attendance to every race, then don't bother". More a combination of "everyone has more fun when the grids are full, will be great to see the same faces on the grid where possible each week" (you do after all get better racing when you have an idea of who your opponent is & their style etc) &, if we get full grids then our first P&G Clubmans season gets a fair test, if it doesn't get a fair go, how will be know if it's something we enjoy?

I hope people give clubmans a fair go, stick to the guidelines & groups set & I believe we'll all enjoy it if we do.

I will race as often as I can - with the better weather and visitors to sunny Burnham on Sea, I'll be with y'all in mind if not in body.
