313s: Fabio Ghezzi, Iain
Don1 is still off from the above incident as Fabio and Iain approach and go past. Fabio, in a GT, has just passed Iain, who is in N-GT. Fabio has to slow because of the cars ahead, and then locks a wheel slowing on a very wide line for Les Combes. Iain decides to go past, and as he does so, Fabio turns in, and there is light contact.
The primary responsibility for the pass rests with Iain, but this isn't a late lunge, they are just on different lines. This early in the race, discretion should really have been the better part of valour, particularly as the GT car was quite likely to have to repass the N-GT a few corners later. (In fact, Fabio went off, but Iain couldn't have known that that was likely.)
Strictly speaking, they were racing for position, so I'm inclined to chalk this one up as a racing incident, with a caution to both drivers to be more circumspect in future.
434s: Fabio Ghezzi, Iain
Fabio misses his braking point for La Source, and runs out onto the extra tarmac. In his haste to rejoin, he spins onto the racing line, narrowly missing Picnic, and collecting Iain (fortunately at very low speed).
If you go off, you must take care to rejoin safely. Fabio didn't, and would almost certainly earn a penalty for this incident.
the first one, i didnt really remember, but after looking at the replay, i must take blame as there was just a spin so shouldnt really be overtaking, my bad, im sorry
the second one, i gotta take some blame again, maybe i was going to fast into to get out the way... not sure if he span there or drove in my way though, id have to check the replay again.
Ian, second one is totally my fault. I thought I could control the car but I was wrong.
For the 1st one, after slowing down I decided to be extra careful in le combe too as the incident was just there and stopped cars seem to like to appear from nowhere just in front of you. I've seen you approaching and decided to let you go, that why I stayed very wide and slowed even more. I think you had room enough to run le combe side by side, by I did not see the replay so my assumption on the space left to you may be wrong.
My vision here is different from the court. When in a dangerous situation because of a crash it is better to concentrate only on gettin safe out of the danger zone. A kind of gentlemen agreement not to fight for positions in those situations is of great benefit for everyone. I did not slowed down for the car ahead: I could go past dodging it at full speed and brake at my braking point, but can you consider that responsible driving? What if there was a car rejoining just meters away? I think that in a contact between a driver who slowed down for caution and one that is exploiting the situation to gain a position the responsibility should go strongly toward the second.
Apart of the ruling the important thing is the gentlemen agreement: is anytime I slow down because there is a car stopped in a place like Kemmel (over 250 Kph) I get passed I will stop slowing down and sooner or later this will result in a big one that will ruin the day and a week of setup work to a lot of people.
Nice to note Ian seems to agree with me that it is better to avoid passing there
