Where do I sign up?? Here? Good! I'm in ;)

I believe Mr. Nobrakes discussed our team selection of the BT11 for the season; if it's not possible for all 4 of us to run the same chassis Billy and I would like to take the Honda, with Peter and Graham in the Brabham..

Hi all,
There's four versions of Oulton Park at the GPL track database.. Which one are we running?

Thanks,
Mark

You sign up by voting on your expected % of attendance during the season, at the top of the post. As for the Oulton track, we've always ran the 60s version I believe. Lots of greenery and trees, you can't mistaken it.  :D

Yes please, full time for me...

Didn't say to post what car you'd like but I'll have a Lotus if possible, failing that a BRM.

Signed up. Re chassis, team CH Lotus is my preference, second choice BRM although I think I'm still at the 'need a Lotus' stage...

Another Clark-Hill entry here - have signed up. Seeing as we're a BRM & Lotus team, I'd better go for one of those... if Tim & Al are going Lotus, I'll go BRM if that's OK.

Season 18 has finally arrived. No World Cup or Euros this year to take my mind off GPL.
As per previous post from Mark, Black Night Racing would like to sign up as a single chassis team for the BT11 - Mark, Maestro, Graham Poole & me. Appreciate this may restrict any other drivers who want to drive the Brabham. Not sure who is organising the Novice league this season but please sent me a PM if this causes a problem with chassis allocation - we can sort out a back up plan.

OK then chaps, I have drawn up some chassis allocations (along with other mods) for the two 65 divisions. So far we have 16 drivers registered for Full Time Novices places and 1 registered for Part Time Places.

Where possible I have tried to accomodate your requested chassis but if for any reason you are not happy with your chosen chariot, address your concerns here, in a PM to myself or of course to Phil if need be.

Burtoner- a choice between the BT7 again or the Cooper
G Poole- BT11
Vosblod- Lotus
Happy Al- Lotus
Maestro- BT11
Nicky- Cooper
Bookie- Ferrari
Norbert- Ferrari
NHance- BRM
Al Heller- BRM
Il Lupo- Ferrari
RogUK- BRM
Mark65- BT11
Barry De La Rosa- choice between the Lotus and the Ferrari
Ruud Savelkoul- choice between the BT11 or the Cooper or switch to Amateurs for a faster chassis (based on your GPLrank)
Billy Nobrakes- BT11
Viss- choice between the Lotus and the Ferrari
Bernie- Honda

omg this really is getting annoying ok, there is 1 division ie div1 and clubmans together.
But whats this works and privateers?, how can i be a privateer when I have a Team anyway
Yeah im starting to think this whole thing is getting out of bloody hand!, These guys are starting to turn like into the FIA, and changing rules and regulations pfft..
here we go again, they change everything when its perfect, perhaps i resub to iracing when its runs out in a month
No one's going to force you to join Burt but we're not the FIA ;)

The more experienced and quicker drivers like yourself would win all the time  :-\

Allocation is used in 65s and makes for more even racing so that the Novices division in particular is not too daunting for new starters just getting into online racing.

It makes it the perfect division for beginners.

A man of your fine stature, experience and speed will get a slow chassis in that division for obvious reasons.

You are welcome to use a faster chassis if you like but you would have to move up to the  Amateurs division instead and mix it with the big boys. (Not including me obviously). I'm small fry.  ;D

thing is: i was registered in noobie league here in last sumer, but did only pre-season warm up races.
i would like race on HONDA
not shure do i will be able race all 18 races but some of them would love to do
ps
hope this is 65 mod :)

Title: Re: Season 18 Novices Trophy Registration
Post by: miner2049er on September 25, 2009, 10:35:38 AM +0100
How fast are you?

Do you have a rank?

I could drop you into Novices for your first race in the Honda and take it from there.

If you are too fast for that car in that division you could either drop to a slower chassis or move up to Amateurs.

To be entered just vote in the Poll.

You have already missed 2 races and you say you may not make all of the others so register for 75% or less.

Post by: Phil Thornton on September 25, 2009, 04:07:40 PM +0100
I've looked at Karlisss' race history.  He ran in 3 races with us at the start of season 16.  Assuming he hasn't got a lot quicker then a Honda would be OK (back then he was a bit slower than Norbert who was in a Ferrari).

Karlisss, as Mike said please vote at the top of the Registration thread (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=6678) otherwise we can't add your name to the championship table.  And yes it is the 65 mod :)

Welcome back, hope you manage a few more races this season  ;)

Hi all,

I don´t know really how this works. Is this the right place to ask if I can race with you?

I have driven GPL for a some time, mostly 67 cars but not online until I did the Targa race last fridag, as Van Tussman.

I saw that you had races on Tusedays and that suits me fine.

Is it possible to join tonight at Kyalami or do I have to wait.

My GPL rank is -29.828 for the 67 but only +33.223 for the 65v2.

I did some testing at Kyalami yesterday in the Brabham bt11 and did  some 1.26. times.

By for now.

Hi Tussman and welcome.

To sign up for the 65s you need to vote in the poll in this thread.

If you plan on doing every remaining 65 race in the season then register as full time, otherwise register as a reserve.

Your 67 rank is impressive so I would think in the long term you would be better suited to the Amateurs class but your first race can be in the Novices so you can try out online racing (if you haven't before) and we'll see how you go on.

You can race tonight but I would recomend that you have a read of the rules beforehand as you are allowed to SHIFT-R in Novices but must take a Stop n Go if you do. The rules are here. https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/intro

Once you have voted I will add you to the Novices class for tonight's race.

Make sure you have added the #ukgpl chatroom to iGOR and you will see the race server (and the rest of us).

The practise server will be up from around 17:00 tonight so you can practise beforehand with some others if you like.

Hi Roberto.
I've put you in the Novices so you should be able to see the password.
You'll need to talk to the division moderators re the chassis but, bearing in mind the time until the race, I'm sure you'll be able to take the Lotus for this one and discuss it afterwards.

Hi Tom you're in as a reserve so ok for tonights race.
Reserve means you need to wait till 30 mins left in qually before you join the server to wait for the full timers to get on. It shouldn't be a problem getting a drive.
The chassis are normally allocated by the division mods so will leave Mike/Phil to talk to you re that. Suggest, if you don't hear, you just take whatever you want for tonight...

Roberto, take the Lotus for tonight and we will take it from there. I have also made you a reserve so you will have to wait until there are 30 minutes left of qualifying before joining to allow all the full time drivers to join first.

Post by: miner2049er on November 03, 2009, 09:24:15 AM +0000
Kinghiro, my sources lead me to believe you may be a little too quick for the Novices so you may want to make a choice based on that. Either join the Novices in a mid range chassis like the BT11 or join the Amateurs in a chassis of choice for the first race to see how you compare.

You are welcome to join the Novices as you are new to UKGPL but in the long term you may be better suited to the Amateurs at Pro Level and 50% race distance with no resets.

Your choice, but if you do want to join Amateurs you will have to vote in that thread and I will add you to the championship.

Please read the first post in this thread and follow the links to the rules pages.  You need to be familiar with them.

Hi guys,

If it's not too late I'd like to sign up for the remainder of the races. John Roberts and Vosblod (Tim) suggested this would be the best league for me to get involved with initially.

I've got no car preferences really, and am happy to be a reserve and come in if someone drops out.

Cheers,

Hello guys, :)

As the P&G season is now over (I couldn't have joined the earlier races because of that), it would be nice to fill my Tuesday nights with some GPL action. :P

So I would like to join for the rest of the season if there's room for a GPL novice. 8)

You've got quite an impressive race history on SRou with one GPL race.  Judging by your performance in that I'd say you were better suited to the Amateurs.  Same night, same time, same cars just faster opposition.  The Novices is very oversubscribed too, so you might not get a drive whereas you'd be practically guaranteed one in the Amateurs.  It's up to Mike but I'd suggest a BRM would be a good chassis for you.

Please register on the Amateurs thread (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=6677), and welcome to UKGPL :)

With 17 Full Time drivers (Samb has withdrawn for the rest of the season) and 2 reserves you are guaranteed a drive.  Mike will confirm the chassis ;)

Hi API, as Phil says, feel free to take the BRM for the remaining 4 races of the Amateurs season.

You have been added as a reserve so wait until 30 minutes remain on the server clock before joining, and have fun.

I'm joining the party rather late, but if there's a chance to be put on the reserves list then I'd like to give it a go!

I found my copy of GPL a couple of weeks ago while having a clearout, and thought I'd give it another go using the supposedly easier '65 cars.  I've started trying to get a GPL65v2Rank; so far I've only got decent times at two tracks, and only one of them below the benchmark.

I've only driven the Brabham BT11 so I'd like to keep using it if I'm allowed as I think I'll have enough on my plate to learn the tracks let alone learn another car.

If you think there'll be room on the grid for me I'll start getting to grips with Zandvoort, which the calendar says is next week.

I have added you to the Novices grid as a reserve as you don't know many tracks well, but with a benchmark time under your belt already you may be better suited to the Amateurs grid at some point.

See how you go.

You can use the BT11 for the rest of the season.

Beat me to it Tim, if you're happy with the Honda, take it.

Be sure to https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/intro before Adelaide and also, as you are added as a reserve, do not join the race server until there are 30minutes of practise left so that the full time drivers can join first.

Thanks.

Hello John491

Just to reiterate what Mike said, we have 17 Full-Time and 11 reserves in the Novices which means some people will be disapointed if everyone turned up for a race.  There are only 19 slots on the grid.  The reserves are people who couldn't commit to a full season or, like you, have joined late in the season.  So the people challenging for the championship will probably be amongst the Full-Time drivers as they will have more scoring rounds to their name.  We want to avoid ruining the championship battle by denying a place on the grid to a championship contender so we need to ensure the reserves only join after the Full Time drivers (or championship contenders) have joined.  If anybody is going to miss out it would have to be someone from the reserves who has no chance of winning the title.

Having said that you should get a drive.  So far this season we have had the following grids:

Round 1 - 12 Drivers
Round 2 - 14 Drivers
Round 3 - 17 Drivers
Round 4 - 14 Drivers
Round 5 - 15 Drivers
Round 6 - 17 Drivers

Oh, and welcome to UKGPL  :)

Cheers

Phil

Could I join the bandwagon, and request a late entry as a reserve, in your novices race at Adelaide?  I'm new online, but am rapidly getting an adrenaline addiction!  Many thanks,

Martin.

Hello Martin

We haven't had a full grid so far this season so we haven't had to turn anyone away yet.  So it should be OK for you to join in at Adelaide but please make sure you let the regulars join first (reasons above as you've already seen).

What lap times are you doing at Adelaide and in what chassis?  What is your preferred chassis?

You'll need to vote in the first post in this thread for us to approve your membership.  Welcome to UKGPL.

Cheers

Phil

Sounds great!

I've logged my vote, and been practicing the next 3 events in the Lotus - managed some 1.35's at your most recent practice event, if that's suitable?

I'll study the rule book, and be ready to roll . . . in a manner of speaking.

Tallyho!

Martin.

TEMPORARY MESSAGE :

I admire your team for all the time and effort they must put in, for us real and desktop competitors.

It's tough when even the details are important.

Presently still waiting for my first championship event - left 2 messages in the novices thread for

Adelaide.

I think severel chocolate bars may quell the adrenaline temporarily.

Onwards,

Martin.

Is it too late to sign up for the final race at Monza? Any chassis will do!

Is this THE Ronnie Peterson??? from way back in the formative BREASTS days?

It's not too late but the championship is finely poised and I wouldn't want a newbie mixing it with the leaders and possibly affecting the outcome.  It would be better if you joined the amateurs for the last round.  That title has been decided and you'd have a free choice of chassis.
