UKGPL Season 17 - Inter-League race - Watkins Glen

Note that this race is at the earlier time of 1900 GMT 2000 BST!

This is the tenth and final Interleague race of our season 17, and will use the 67 carset.  Our guests will be one of the strongest GPL leagues, the European Online Challenge, who are in their tenth year of racing.  Last season's race at Solitude was a clean sweep of the podium for EOLC, with Mark Edelmann the race winner.  John Roberts had our only finish, we would hope to do much better this time out.  Each league is to field nine cars, and there are no chassis handicaps, drivers will be racing to complete the distance and score points for their team.  The race will be on the EOLC server so we may switch chatrooms again- lets have a warm greeting for our hosts from EOLC!

Please be in VROC UKGPL chatroom passworded 'Savage' by 18:55GMT, (You will need to set up a channel called ukgpl if you haven't already done so)

Ffffff....ffff....fff....ffff....flipping 'eck, how many laps?! Fifty-four?

Shall we stick to what works then? Eagle sirs, although I'll take Lotus and BRM if forced to. I should *should* be fine for a connection this time, just please start the server on time. :)

I'll drive anything, but afraid I'm off on holiday tomorrow and won't see a computer until next Sunday. Just sign me up to any chassis and I'll be back on the day of the race  :).

Not many of you have dropped a word yet, but here's a provisional team I came up with. Some people are not 100 % certain for participation, while others may change cars as we draw closer to the event. I have also assumed some chassis allocation before hearing from those drivers.

Sam..............Lotus
Jethro............Eagle
Lorenzo..........Ferrari
John..............Brabham
Evil................Brabham
Hristo.............Honda
Fulvio.............Cooper
<vacant>........Cooper
<vacant>........BRM

Please, write a post to let us know of your intentions and car preferences in advance. Assignments are subject to change still.

I can't make myself a deffinate availability wise.
I'll be at Prescott Hillclimb all weekend, and although it's only 40 mins from home I might not be back in time for an 8 o clock start if the weathers good enough to trailor the westfield up there.....

If it's wet I'll only have the Nissan so should be home by 6 leaving loads of time, if it's dry then you can add at least an hour for loading/unloading the Westy and putting stuff away :(

I'm happy to provisionally take the Honda if you'd like though H, I think I'm still on 100% in terms of engine reliability so It could free you for a faster chassis  :)

Failing that put me as a stand by for anything

Should be ok for this one in the Brab if that suits the rest of the gang, but 54 laps is a lot of Loops to survive!! lol. ::)

I might be available for this one if needed/wanted (BRM of course).

54 laps is a lot, so I think I'd have to modify my driving to enduro mode, i.e. drive a good 1-2 secs off my ultimate pace in order to have a chance of a finish.

Tell me about it!

James, you showed some considerable pace in the BRM in D1 races, so I'd be glad to have you on the team. Remember that the points scoring goes all the way from 1st to 18th in these races though, so finishing makes quite a difference for overall team points, especially from ppl those in the top 10.

Tim, I know you do brilliant with the Honda engine reliability management, but I was sort of willing to improve on that as well and that can only happen by driving it more. Plus I quite like the faster car assignments at the moment, it seems to work for the overall team points results in most of our races. So if you're willing to get into the Cooper, let me know. Though given Will's regular good results in the Cooper in the majority of races he ran this season, I have to give him priority if he choses to drive for us in this race.

I guess we'll figure it out in the following days.

OK. Just bare in mind I'm not a deffinate for the race due to my weekend  :)
I'll drive the BRM if I have to  :)

May be a doubt for this. Due to circumstances out of my control I have no laptop to race with. So I'm a "maybe" for this one, put me as a reserve until I say otherwise please. Somebody else wants the Eagle, they're welcome to it. :)

Bugger!  Missed this thread.  I'm available.  Will slot into anything still left.

I'm definitely unavailable for this, but I'm a last-minute "nobody else can go in the Eagle" person. I have no wireless at the moment.

I'll take the Eagle if you like (and I'm back in time), I've always got on well with it  :)
(nearly got a podium at Solitude last season  (damn tree! :hammer:)

OK, Jethro, you're a reserve for this one then. Yes, Tim, I like. :)

Doni, the remaining Cooper is yours if you don't mind.

It would be nice to have at least one more reserve for this one, so any candidates?

I'd like to be a reserve and therefore only race if no one else is available.  :)
This way there is a bit less pressure to finish cos I am still a bit inconsistent and liable to have a tonking incident at some point  ;D. I've got the speed in qualy but not so much in the races proper. Also, I seem unable to excercise enough judgement and dont lift off enough. Its a bit too much flat out or out for me I'm afraid (though I'm getting better).

I got some times down today.  First time ever in the Cooper at The Glen from what my records show.

I'll be putting in quite a few laps in Q to get a handle on how my steering is affected by VROC again.  Seems I need a lot of laps to get used to the phenom.

I've made it back intime  :)
Will get started on some sort of shakedown practice type lark. I'm knackered and hope it won't show in the race  :-[

I hope you people realize the start is 1 hour earlier than usual. We're waiting... And what's the password btw? And why didn't Eolc know where to come, I found them in the #eolc room.

Buggar! Sorry guys! Simply drifted wide at The Loop on lap 1 and before I know it I'm in the wall with a wheel missing.  :'(

Hope the rest of you guys get a decent result.

Not really. With you out and Lorenzo not racing we had nobody to challenge the top spots. I was running 5th after your off and could've probably kept it, but after waiting 20 minutes for Lorenzo there was barely enough time to post a qualifying lap and there was no time to test my race setup. It turned out to be a pretty bad setup and so I went off early on, it took me ages to get out of the grass slope.

After that I passed some people and eventually moved up to 7th while closing in on 6th place, but another off and then having to cruise to save fuel almost lost me that position. Doni was our only other finisher.

I had an Alison setup that I had already used in a GP long race time ago but I think I picked the unlucky Cooper this time. Engine popped on Loop exit while I was accelerating in 3rd at 7000 rpm after a few laps when I was behind John, it said Collector. I had a ring in qualy when engine popped at the first press of throttle in the pit. Before to leave the server I saw that also John had a smoking engine.
It would have been better I had gone to see a concert.
Luckily later I had a good race with iRacing Radicals.

Ciao

Grats to EOLC for a crushing win  :-\  Looks like we were just not

I was stuffed when the direct IP address did not work and I had to enter server via Vroc.

So once again I was fighting the steering gremlins, which this time not only operated like a switch, but refused to apply any opposite lock if the tail stepped out. The best it would do was return the steering to straight ahead??!!! I spent 30 mins after the race altering various parameters to find out what the h*** is wrong but with no success.
As a result, at best I was at least a second a lap down on my race pace and at worst, whenever the tail slipped out there was no way of applying any correction and the ass continued in a gentle arc until it met the scenery or completed a 360 spin.  :-\

I survived a couple of these spins but eventually the contacts with the hard stuff bent something and despite surviving to see John limping in his Brab and Fulvio quit, a final off at Big Bend removed a wheel and it was all over.

Thanks to EOLC for the race and server. Next time perhaps we will be better prepared and at least put up some resistance.

Extreme tiredness + GPL = concentration fail  :(

I was knackered and despite and very good start to proceedings simply missed my braking point and shot into the crowd at the Loop - had been steady climbing up the leader board and posibly even slowly gaining on H.....

Condolences to the familys of the spectators I ran over  :-[
