Aosta is one of the fictional tracks from nKPro that has been converted to AC. It takes a bit of learning for those who are not familiar but a few laps with the AI in quick race will soon have you flying around. It is tremendous fun!

The Xbow and Lotus are very well matched over a lap but with different strengths and should therefore produce some excellent racing.

eek, new car and new track to learn  :o  I start a new job next week so really not sure if I will get any spare time, but will try!

same time Wednesday for more battling then Bob  ;)

Worth spreading the news about these regular wednesday races. Am sure there are plenty of good racers getting frustrated with the public servers or lack of race action. Stick a notice on No-grip and Gamers Crib, RD etc  :)  Would offer but spare time is zilch currently.

I have created a "pickup" race server @ ChrisR Race Server - simracing.org.uk practice where you can just come and go as you please and change your car as you please...

the server will be on most of the night each night (unless we fancy driving something else to break it up a little)for anyone to come and go as they please.

Qualifying will be set to 1 hour and a 4 lap race on a Loop.

Server is on now btw.

I'm struggling here with this update and the dedi-server :( ChrisR, is your server still up because I can't see it in the server list? Interestingly I can only see our club server during the first session after I've started the server.

Also this "pickup" system is still as messed up in its own ways. You have to preallocate the cars, thus whoever sets up the server decides which cars / skins will be available in what quantity, what happens if every wants to run the Xbow? You can't because I've had to preallocate and I've done it ~ 50/50.

Friday's update seems to have created as many problems as it's solved  :-\

The track has a limit of 16 pitboxes so presumably that means only 16 drivers which would be ok under normal conditions. However with this nonsense of having to preallocate the cars we now have a problem. For this race I suggest that we post up our car choice so that have an idea of numbers. I'll be in the Xbow We might have to limit future races to single car events until this mess is sorted out  :(

I tested the server this afternoon and was able to join ok in race session  ::) I think it was our server and not Chris' as the password had been remembered on there. Unfortunately it appears that we can't set the server to prevent this so it might be best to still use the booking system for now. Let me know what you think Pete.

One thing this update hasn't included is the ability to limit driving aids or damage/wear on the server. This means that we are able to run our cars with full driving aids and without tyre wear or fuel consumption. Obviously I urge drivers to not take advantage of this. The Xbow has ABS available in real life and is still available in game even if you switch it off in the driving aids. For this reason it is allowed and can be enabled/disabled on track by Ctrl>A  ;)

Moantime: Why the hell have they spent the last month fuddling around with stupid graphic options that make little or no difference to this game when they could have been sorting this lot out  >:(

In reality this is only a problem for practice as we can go back to the booking system for the real event. The agro in that is remembering to manage the entries INI file as well as the server config one.

I don't have a problem people joining mid race, strange as that may sound. I assume you started from the pits? I'd not like that on a public server as I expect people to join mid race to be those that would go around driving backwards and crashing in to people. We're all too mature for that ;) You'd also get little or no points as you'll be potentially laps down when you 'start' your race. It does allow people to reconnect if their link drops at the penalty of a 'lengthy pitstop'

Yes, quite possibly.

Xbow 1:39.6 better to handle for me
2/11 1:37.0 A bit erratic in corners (still learning)

Track and cars are new to me. You can find setups of the cars in some of the standard tracks, if you got the JC setup pack that's in the AC tips thread.

1:37.1 with xbow, with 2/11 I have problem with that central rear view mirror (blocking my view for right hand corners) so didn`t have nerve to do single timed lap.

Anyway, still have big problems with internet so not sure if I can make it - my provider is modernizing nearby PABX so half a day I have telephone and internet than 2 days not.

1'35,8 is my best in the xbow but more like 1'36 on a consistant basis..

the 2/11 i  think my best is 1'38.x

Post by: goldtop on July 20, 2014, 12:17:45 PM +0100
In my testing both cars were 1:37.7 with race fuel (pb after a few laps). Since then I've done a few more laps with the Xbow with a pb of 1:36.4. I think I could get the 2/11 down to a similar pace but it is certainly a more challenging drive (for me anyway).

Bear in mind that we now have the so called dynamic track surface  :-\ so times will now vary according to which surface we practice on  ::) As you might have gathered I think this feature is cwap atm as all it seems to do is make the whole track surface more grippy in relation to time and is not influenced by how many cars are on track and where they have driven.

Not sure how we feel about using this feature in these races :-\ Is it worth trying a few options on the server or is it best ignored until it's done properly?

Chris here.. not bob.

you can set the track to optimum in the settings which basically makes it just as it was before the patch..

the way the dynamic track works is like this

session start grip is the percentage of grip at the start of the session.

randomness just leave at 1

the lap gain is how many laps is needed to gain 1% of grip.

so if you set the startgrip to 90% and lapgain to 1 it would go up 1% per lap completed.

best thing to do is set it so the start grip is 100 and leave the lapgain to 1 that way it is as it was pre-patch.

1:38.1 for me so far with the X-Bow, not tried the other car. Bit of an odd track layout, like a test track but hey ho.

AC team are busy doing updates and have made some changes to available server settings. Currently at 0.21.5 with more to come tomorrow. We will finally have server side settings for things like tyre wear, engine damage and fuel usage.....must have listened to my moaning  :D

As these are test/fun races, I think it would be a good idea to try out some of these dynamic track conditions so if you have time to set something up for this race Pete, that would be great. If that's too tight, maybe we can have a look for future races.

It'll be a struggle this week, busy tonight and tomorrow evening I'm afraid, but I'm all up for trying different things to help get the multiplayer working so we use it for proper league races. Any pointers to topics on the AC forums that explain settings gratefully received. I rarely have time to check there myself.

Afraid I'll probably be missing Weds.

I'm just not getting something... I can't find any way to defeat the understeer and when I do I just end up in big tank slappers and I can't chase the wheel fast enough. Currently at least 7 secs off the pace and have absolutely no chance of stringing more than 1 lap together without an off.

It's not just these cars either. I've been having some time off work and trying to get some serious practice in but I'm not making any headway. Think I'll give it a rest for a while and go back to something that I enjoy driving like PnG or RBR, at least I'll get some smiles and the neighbours won't have to listen to me screaming the pc in frustration  ;D and the wheel and pedals won't get thrown out.

jonny, can you take screenshots of your windows game controllers preferences (the one with all the sliders on) then take some more pics of the ingame settings (damping etc)

it sounds like its setup wrong but the pics will confirm that, if you still dont get any joy i shall share my setups.

you could also join my teamspeak channel too. (we are all on now and just practicing on my server)

Hi Chris,

Here's the pages I think you are on about...

In the Logitech profiler the Global settings are as the pic and then I have an AC profile as the pic shows (I use this to launch Steam and AC). In game the wheel is set to 900 and I have been through the in game setup procedure. I have a G27 coupled to Clubsport V2 pedals. The pedals are ok, I have some good feel for braking with them it's just the wheel I'm struggling with. I'm sure I'm doing something fundamentally wrong somewhere... I just can't figure it out.

I've just spent an hour in the Cobra at Longford and messed around with the in-game settings in the car setup for the FF and Damping.. still can't get what I think should be somewhere near as compared to other games. I liked the Cobra as it felt as though there actually was some grip at the front although the back end is a bit flighty. With the Cobra it's like the wheel is rattling all the time, which it doesn't do with the AC developed cars.

I don't expect to be racing the quick guys but I certainly don't expect to be so far off the pace. I've watched a few videos to see how other people "drive" but I can't put it into practice. I'd be much happier if I could choose how much rotation I want for the wheel and then be able to adjust steering ratio accordingly but the AC Devs refuse to do anything about that... they're more interested in sorting out the feel for the Xbox game-pad brigade (sorry, that's my cynical side coming out). I feel sorry for anyone with a wheel that doesn't do at least 900 degrees of rotation.

Anyway, I'm interested to hear what you think... is it my settings are do I need to learn to drive  ;) I'm open to trying out any wheel settings that others are using, although I haven't tried any from the thread yet. The two cars chosen for the Weds race don't have much scope for adjustment so it didn't take long to go through most of the options and nothing really seemed to change so maybe it's just me.

Thanks for any suggestions.

your settings look ok tbh.

i notice all your kerb and road feel etc are 0 which on mine i have at default.

i shall send you my setups for the cars..

the only thing i would do is set your gain to 100% and alter each cars FFB on its own.

load up the pedal app and make sure the far right bar doesnt stay red at any point, flashing red is ok.

this might be why your are having probs but im not sure.

I had the pedal app running last night and it doesn't get anywhere near red. Maybe that's because I have the "canned" effects turned off. I'm more and more coming to the conclusion that a drastic change in driving style is required.

Thanks for your thoughts  :thumbup1:

Thanks.

Edit: I've made some changes to FF and I'm starting to make some progress...... only about 3 secs off the pace now in the X-Bow ;)  Still got ridiculous understeer  at some points though - I guess I need to slow down there  ;D

Any server. I was referring to my inability to find any sort of join button. I found it now. I must admit I find the UI far too complicated and fussy.

The Xbow has ABS available in real life and is still available in game even if you switch it off in the driving aids. For this reason it is allowed and can be enabled/disabled on track by Ctrl>A  ;)

Having just upgraded the dedi server to the latest version I thought I'd better try a few laps, not sure 1:42 is going to cut it! However by default my Xbow's ABS is not enabled, we raced something the other week where I had ABS without me changing anything. Does this mean the Xbow has ABS but it's a bug in AC not having it enabled, a bug in the other car giving it to me without it begin enabled or a change in approach by AC? I'd hope that I'd get ABS by default if the car has it for real and it's only taken away from me when the car doesn't support it. Lets hope ABS will give me another 4 or 5 secs!

GT, I haven't got a [DYNAMIC_TRACK] section in the INI file for now so I'm assuming the track will remain consistent. I'll delay starting the server for the event to you can have it put in (if you see this in time). Server will be available for booking no later than 7:30 is case anyone gets a panic on ;)

Of course it is Spanner, all welcome. At this rate it might be first come first served as there is a limit of 16 at this track.

I believe the 2/11 also has ABS available by default so it should even things out either way. As regards dynamic track probably best if we look at doing something for next week (if I've posted this in time). Again, either way its the same for all.

Yes - about to restart it with the race config. No [DYNAMIC_TRACK] section this week. I guess we should test it with different numbers to see what effect it has. 2 quick races back to back? What does AC do if there is no qual? Is it a random grid?

Edit: Deed is done, race server accepting bookings Can't see it tho!

Not sure why you might not see it, there are 4 of us on now. Did you see Chris' server at all? Not sure if that's still up now.

Found it now and booked. Had to change some of the filters for server selection. Had all selection options highlighted as I did before when I could see the server, now only highlighted to look for locked servers and it shows up.... Go figure.

Oh dear, that didn't end well - PC blue screened and now fails to boot! I'll let it cool off and play over the weekend.

Was almost dead last at the time. You guys have some serious pace here :(

Have to appologise to GoldTop for the little nudge last night going through the first section, no excuses on my side, i was too close and couldnt react fast enough when you braked at your braking point.

I did slow down but saw you got hit again so carried on.

My appologies. :(

Tricky cars under braking these, and not much in the way of setup options.
Never did get that hairpin corner right despite trying all manner of entry and braking points  :P

Finished 5th overall so decent enough but have to say I was pretty bored after 9 laps. These cars and this track just didn't do it for me. Had the odd good little dice and the cars looked neat on track but couldn't lose the feeling I would rather be racing proper cars on a proper track. These felt like Mario Karts!

Congrats to AlkiProst and ChrisR up front for the podium  :)

Apology accepted Chris  8)

I must also apologise to whoever I hit (no replay) while rejoining after being bumped off. I looked and listened but it was an awkward spot, probably should have cut the track down the grass and rejoined on the straight  :-[

Quite enjoyed the Xbow and the chase back. Ed was a bit laggy which gave me a couple of frights when I was behind. Not sure if that was netcode or bad connection but noticed your ping was 164 which shouldn't ordinarily cause problems.

Grats to AlkiProst for the win  :)

Did you enable ABS?

I would rather be racing proper cars on a proper track.

::) Normal service will be resumed next week  :) I want to try out these dynamic track settings although I do believe they're a bit primitive atm. I'll pick a short track with some familiar cars as it will allow more laps and more chance to effect changes in grip.

Id love to see a race on blackwood.

It is another addon track but its been very well done, it is a track from live for speed and its very flowing.

Not too fussed about car tho, ill drive anything aslong as we havent already driven it.

The new server options look excellent!

Yes I remember racing a Blackwood conversion in nKPro. Been meaning to try AC version so I'll sort something soon.

Had good fun trying not to spin the car  ::) and then every time trying to catch the one in front of me  :P

Just a question: what is the organisers view on the track boundaries? I saw some using the concrete parts of the corners and was just wondering. Not a slight on how people drive, but just so I know what I have to change on my way of driving (not going to be faster as a result of that  ;)) More to know where to put the car to avoid a pass  ;D

Evora GTC is good fun to drive and one of the easiest of the Lotus cars I've driven yet.

Our rules on track limits apply in this series as they do in any other series here: Basically, drive a line that enables you to keep at least 2 wheels on track as defined by the white lines. Occasional excursions will happen during racing but deliberate and repeated cutting or running wide is most certainly not allowed.

This particular track was more difficult than most as many of the apexes were unsighted and hard to judge at entry until drivers were on top of them and committed to their line. Even so every effort should have been made to avoid exceeding track limits defined by the white lines and did not include concreted areas outside of those lines.

This is a test/fun series and as I have stated in all race announcements there will be no moderation of incidents but drivers are expected to uphold our usual standards of excellent driving. Nuff said.
