1  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 44 (Spring 2024) 1955 GP (Works) - Reims - Apr 28 on: Yesterday at 07:45:54 PM
Could it be driver related? I reinstalled the latest drivers 20 minutes ago, but it's not making a difference. Should I try installing (much) older Nvidia drivers?
I tried that, I rolled the driver back to when the 2060 was released (I had a copy of the driver) but it didn't help.

I assume you are on Windows 10, not Linux?

I suspect it might be down to a windows update in my case. It is as if the nvidia profiler has no effect now.
2  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 44 (Spring 2024) 1955 GP (Works) - Reims - Apr 28 on: Yesterday at 07:25:37 PM
I had a 1060 and it was fine until about 4 months ago when I started to have FPS issues. My son recently upgraded his PC so I inherited his 2060. A much better card but my FPS didn't improve.

It looks like Hristo is having similar issues. I agree with Cookie, the 1060 should be more than enough for GPL, so something else is going on IMO.

I've no idea what the issue is. I can't even be sure exactly when it started for me. I can only assume it was after a Windows update.

I did a check with the hardware monitor but I can't remember what it revealed. I'm on holiday ATM so I can't run another check on my PC. In the interim I've resorted to turning down the detail bias until I can figure out a proper solution.

I think you've got a cut-and-paste error in the announcement Pete. There is only one Ferrari in the 67F2s.

I assume you've setup a profile for each of the gpl executables. See here

Remember that also CPU doesn't run at max when you run GPL from Win7 on. I set max performance in Windows Save Energy Options on Control Panel and disable Intel Speed step in GEM options. Also Nvidia has a Best Performance option on Nvidia Panel to set.
Yep, got all those set Huh?

I have an old 2010 i5 750 with an old 2013 GTX660 and still they don't run at max with GPL if I don't set both properly, while with iRacing they are both in difficult on some new tracks running always at max.
So do you get a steady 60FPS? i assume you are running at 1920x1080p?  I run at 3840x2160P.

You may have a point there Hristo, my CPU is an Intel Core i7-2600K circa 2011 which is quite old now. Perhaps I need to think about upgrading my MB/CPU/RAM. I'll have a look at my son's PC. He has a newer CPU, I'll have to check what his FPS is like running the 55 mod.

........but if I recall correctly it is all about forcing/fooling the GPU to run at max performance all the time, thereby taking some of the load off of the CPU. Somewhere on the Forum Axel has posted a copy of the settings for NVIDIA cards that help with this.
I've tried all the usual tricks which hasn't helped. I'm struggling to understand what is going on.

Edit:- My post crossed with Phil's, but I think we are both talking the same issues re graphics vs modern GPU's. I have been considering buying a better GPU but I have my doubts as to if it will improve GPL?
I wouldn't bother updating your graphics card until we get to the bottom of the current issues.

I suspect perhaps my 5th gear was just hitting the maximum revs in slipstream. That or just random bad luck.
I always try to keep the rpm down at max speed which can be difficult to judge in these cars because the draft is so strong. I tested various top gear ratios so that in clean air the car will not quite reach max speed (1 or 2 mph below). That usually gives 1500 rpm to play with when you get a tow without compromising clean air top speed too much. I've not had many engine failures using this approach but as you said, there is always random bad luck.

Championship now looks much harder after this and last race's bad results, but anything's possible! Congrats to Clive and Evil for their win and 2nd place respectively, with such a small gap too!
Yes, the championship won't be decided until the last round at this rate.

On a side note, I can't figure out how to fix the issue I'm having with the fps drops. It only began to happen since the previous race, after I upgraded my video card. I had no such issues in all the races before that, so I don't understand what's going on. Tried all kinds of graphics settings but nothing is making enough of a difference. I'm really puzzled what could be causing it. I'm beginning to suspect my CPU may suddenly not be working correctly and that it's not the graphics card. Any tips/ideas are welcome.
I have similar issues with the 55 mod and the closed wheel cars despite having a vastly more powerful graphics card than GPL needs (Geforce RTX 2060 Super). The only way I can solve the low FPS rate ATM, is to reduce the detail bias. All the other open wheel cars are OK. It is as if the new cards and drivers have switched to using processing (ray tracing?) that GPL doesn't use to the detriment of trditional processing. I have no idea. As you know a solid FPS is essential so I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of eye candy for cars 10 places ahead of me for a solid FPS and good graphics on the cars next to me.

Coming out of the final corner, Evil had obviously turned up the boost and I threw caution to the wind and risked a quickshift from 4th to 5th. That probably saved me.
You're probably right Clive, a clever trick I wouldn't have thought of. This win has improved your championship chances a lot, I hope you've saved some tokens.

I was following Jonny down the long straight on Lap 1 when I realised that I had the WRONG SETUP!!  scared scared Not enough fuel for the race and qualifying gear ratios??!!. This was causing my Lancia engine to push too close to the limit.....
Schoolboy error there Evil. But it does help to explain how I could stay with you for 90% of the race.

Backing off in the slipstream and short shifting saved enough fuel to complete the race
Despite me doing the whole qually on race setup (full tanks) I still managed to misjudge my fuel. I finished with 4 gallons in the tank. Not sure how that happened but the slipstream seems to have helped keep the fuel consumption down.

You can watch the race from my cockpit on my Twitch channel, including the coiple of near misses.  Grin
I watched a bit but there was no sound. I assume you are experimenting with your sound settings after you discoed at Snetterton?

I enjoyed that one, I'm very pleased to bag a podium in the Ferrari 625. I wasn't worried about qualifying, the important thing here is the slipstream which you don't get out front. I managed to stay out of trouble on the first 3 or 4 corners and I was lucky enough to keep close enough to the leading pack to pick up the draft. First Fulvio went for a picnic in the cornfield and before long a couple of fast W196SL Mercs tangled at Village de Thillos. Then Hristo's Maserati motor exploded and Syd ran off the road at Village de Thillos whilst leading. That left me in P3 behind the 2 Clives at the start of lap 4 with some very fast cars on my tail but on the next lap Alain and JonnyO tangled and they were both out.

The rest of the race was a three way battle for the lead. I managed to hassle Clive Loynes by taking the lead a couple of times but I wasn't going to be able to keep the lead once we got onto the straights, but it slowed him down enough for me to be able to stay close enough to keep the slipstream. This tactic helped to keep a big enough gap back to Enrique. But with a couple of laps to go Evil got past me and I lost the draught. Fortunately I was far enough ahead of Enrique to stay on the podium. I could see Evil was all over Clive's Merc on the last lap and I was thinking I would have a chance of a win if they tangled on the last corner. But Evil opted for the safer option of trying to use the slipstream to make a pass over the finish line. He nearly pulled it off too, a very close 0.056 seconds between them on the line!

Cool, that looks like Melbourne which is a proper hairpin not like the corner called Hairpin (which is now called Old Hairpin). That always confused me. The old track looks pretty narrow  Shocked

I hope you have a great time Pete and Will. I'm currently helping younger son with his DIY, I'd rather be watching the racing  Roll Eyes

Great video Dimi, it must take you hours to edit them.

Thanks for highlighting Tom's fair racing when he gave the place back after our bump. Having looked at the replay I would have put this down as a racing incident if it had been moderated. I made a mistake at the esses which gave Tom the opportunity to close on the straight and so he had plenty of overlap at turn-in. I tried to give him plenty of room but his rear end stepped out otherwise there would have been no contact. Gaining a place in such circumstances is never rewarding so Tom probably made the right choice but IMO he wouldn't have been penalised if he hadn't. Thanks for the fair racing Tom.

After qualifying a modest I took a quick leak break before the race, which took longer than I wanted to. Result: I missed the initial start!
So off I went, starting through the pits with a 25 second deficit.
Well that makes your drive even more impressive! I must admit I've made the same mistake but I've never turned it into a win. I wondered how you appeared in my mirrors after a few laps, I hadn't noticed you on the grass, now I know.
