If you can handle it, the Capri obviously was the choice here. I can't, so had to pick another car. Offline, I tested the 911RSR & Pantera too, but while I could lap faster than in the 906, I could certainly also spin off a lot more
- add to that that they both use more fuel and munch tires at a much higher rate; especially the Panty, and the choice was a no-brainer.
Qualified 4th and got ok off the line, but Clive suddenly swerved into my path, so we touched and I had to brake. That gave Tony the opportunity to slip through. Passed him at the end of L1, when I got a better exit from the chicane. He chased me over the following laps, but suddenly was gone, when he went off. Gaps to Capris in front and cars behind were growing, so all by myself, until I suddenly spotted a dustcloud at the end of the long semi-straight. That was Geoffers and Postal, digging themselves out of the sand, and I got myself wedged between them. Soon passed by Geoffers, when I overshot my braking point.
Race then quited Down, until after my pitstop at the end of L14. Suddenly realised I had Postal chasing me. He got past, when I ran wide going into the corner after the long straight, but then spun himself a lap later. Passed him and was chased for a couple of laps, until he passed me on the straight. I did the gentlemanly thing and left the door open for him to pass, as he was clearly faster
Of course tried to hang on as best I could, hoping for another mistake, but that didn't happen. Thus finished as started - 4th.
Grats to the podium, especially Pelle - he looked rather normal when we met earlier this year, but obviously is pure alien...
Commiserations to Bill - I passed your 'shimmering' car just before you left, so guess your PC crashed or you somehow lost connection
Merry Christmas everyone; hope to see you all next Monday.
Cheers,
Erling
