Season 28 Privateers Trophy - Round 9 - Tripoli

For Round 9 the Privateers head to Mellaha Lake and the very fast circuit at Tripoli. The track was a 13.140 kilometer (8.165 mi) long affair situated in a salt basin between Tripoli, Suq al Jum'ah and Tajura and around the Mellaha Air Base. The track's most distinctive landmark was a brilliant white concrete tower situated across from a large frontstretch grandstand that could hold up to ten thousand people. Mellaha Lake was equipped with starting lights, an innovation, and the additional amenities rivaled the best that continental European circuits had to offer. Back in the late thirties this was the fastest track of the world.

We will use Tripoli 1937, trackfolder tripoli !

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for Lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start to the exit of the first (90 degrees) righthander. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=476&theme=6) standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

It was not my evening !
I was rear ended by a Lotus (Paul ?) at the first turn. Had to make a shift-R and a Stop and Go.
Two laps later, another car (Michael ?) spun just in front of me... On this kind of track and at this speed, there is no possibility to avoid the accident, even being cautious (and I was).

Not Me David although I did get caught up in the carnage. Had to wait for everyone else and ended up half a lap down.

Gained places by attrition and then caught Michael coming out of the pits. Thought he was going full left so went to go right and then realised he was not so came back left but was at top speed. Misjudged it horribly and rear ended him. Sorry mate. Bit rusty. Had to reset and got going. Just me Bill and Axel left so I drove for a finish but popped the engine - so another pointless race.

Good grief what a disastrous race. Double apologies to DR who I unfortunately took out twice. Then an off as I went too wide trying to pass Billy.  Then as I emerged from an SnG  the collision with Paul who was initially too far back to see in my mirrors. Then another off , blown engine and retirement. Good job the season's nearly over.

For this track the Honda was not a bad choice ;D

But for Interlagos I think I have to break my own plan, as it is 5sec slower than a Braby...

Now Cookie have 309 pts and I am still leading the championship with 316 pts (337-21) so the final event in Interlagos should be nice ;)

Problem is that I am not really sure to be at home on 19 July :(

Small turn out last night - hopefully there will be a few more back for Brazil.
I suspect the Eagle is the best car or this very quick track. I got pole, even though a second or so slower than PB in practice.
Cookie made a more consistent start & got ahead on lap 1. Our pace was fairly even until I put a wheel on the dirt on lap 3. Managed to recover without any damage although Micheal's Lotus was gaining ground very quick. He span off, which was the last time I saw another car before the finish line. Cookie ran a very clean race & we finished about the same gap it had been after my lap 3 spin. Attrition rate was high just me & Cookie with a lot of desert to ourselves for half a race.
Hope David makes it for the final race to contest the championship.

price is: ~ a middle class car  ;D
Of course it will work...

I just read about OSW's (https://marcushwang.wordpress.com/2015/01/18/my-mmos-sim-wheel-project/) at SRMZ and found that they cost a little less but still > 3000€...

BRR had the same ideas when creating ffb2 (http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=4226&#entry30768)!

So I decided to take the info I got and optimize my current G27 settings  ;)
I raised the ffb2 max force to 380 and turned off all auto centering I had left in logi controller settings.

After some training laps at WG with my Lotus 33, I did a new PB (-0.2sec) ::)

Back late from Silverstone & had some other commitments;  however was intending to turn up & at least roll over the start line :)
However, some home network issues put a stop to that!

Congrats podium, especially the finishers!   :D

Cheers,
Dave.

I wonder if it would break me or the machine if I encountered a stationary car just after cresting the hill at Antoniusbuche, or hitting the telephone pole after the Mulsanne Kink, or the house after the Masta Kink? :)

Nice! No wonder you were all over us.. I've been using all 0s and ffb2 with 340 for a long time now!

That's a very interesting article on building a better sim wheel. Really want to try it now hearing the description of improved feel!

One of my friends said they'd never see me if I had the G-force simulator
