1  UKPnG / UKPnG Races / Re: UKPnG Season 1 - Clubmans - Laguna Seca - Jun 16 on: June 16, 2009, 02:19:27 PM +0100
did you know there is a newer version of this track available than the one you linked to here on srouk ?

I currently have version 1.2 (yours is 1.1). Its a very nice version. Bit late in the day now i guess  Undecided

This was the version I originally had and so had to downgrade for this race...it really is a downgrade. 1.2 does look better!

I hadn't driven more than a few laps on 1.2 so I don't know if the handling is different too.

Hi Legzy, can I ask to be allowed the 914 Porche? I tried those horrible American cars and in the Ferrari and Elan I can only do 1:44's. Even in the 914 I have so far only managed a 1:42.5. Perhaps I could break into the 41's, but I think it's going to be difficult.

I've actually done quite a lot of practice on this track now and even though I'm starting to dial in the corners am still slow.

Can I be promoted...to a faster car that is? Smiley

P.S. Please do keep those guide times!

I did a little running and car setup for a couple of cars.

DRY:
1:46.x in the Jag E-type Lightweight 5sp

WET:
1:51.x in the Jag E-type Coupe (though probably a 50 in qualy)
1:51.x in the Ferrari 275 (though probably a 50 in qualy)

these wet times were on a drying track so not sure how accurate they are.

It did seem a bit strange that I was sat there on the grid inside someone elses car, but when everyone set off I figured I'd drive and see what happens - however, when no pit board was shown after the first lap I figured something was definitely wrong. ;-)

Well, there were still 4 of us on track and I ended up having some really nice tussles with Phil for around 12 laps. We were very even except for two corners. I was faster in one and Phil faster in another, so we swapped places many times.

12 Laps!! Yep, it seems the game wasn't counting the laps off so I only stopped because I'd used up all my fuel!

Depending on how much fuel Phil has in the car, he could still be there  Tongue

Anyway, thanks for trying Matt - it was still fun.

Because of the drop in numbers with GTR2 over the past season, we Historic racers are getting to use alternate Tuesday night slots for P&G (starting from Oulton Park 2nd June).

So you're saying PnG will only be every second week?

bugger...

...Errr....hmmm...ahh....brrr..urrrr......every second week you say..??

I'm quietly confident you'll back pedal on this statement sometime soon Mike. Grin Wink

...oh crumbs...

It's a hard decision for sure, I would love to run a full season of GTL, but alas I just can't dedicate that much time at the moment, and so I have to choose just one.

Well, by the look on the "forthcoming" list, the P&G season will be taking place on Tuesdays and to be honest, I don't think I will have enough time to run these two seasons side-by-side.

Although I am slightly worried that the P&G Clubmans format will not give the same satisfaction (knowing that the top drivers are being handicaped) I do really want to give it a go.

Therefore, I will not be taking part in the L8 season Sad

Good luck to everyone!
8  UKPnG / UKPnG Races / Re: UKPnG Season 1 Clubmans - FUN RACE - Snetterton - May 21 on: May 22, 2009, 10:00:00 PM +0100
Congrats to Mark and thanks for the fun racing on those 35 laps!

My qualy really was not very good but I lucklily managed something half decent on my final lap. As Mark mentioned, I made a cracking start and from there until the pit stops we were right together. We might not having been fighting tooth and nail, we did keep each other very honest all the way.

However, the dastardly swine stole my pit crew!  Tongue

I pitted directly behind Mark but it looks like we were sharing the same pit box...I didn't know this could happen - yes I had called my pit and had the blue light well before I got anywhere near the pits. As a result I had to drive through the pits and try again later - something to be aware of for future races.

Nonetheless, I had a poor 67 second stop anyway, so I would have still been well behind Mark at the end.

I've got to say, it did feel like I was cheating a bit being up there at the front. But, I predicted I would do 15's and 16's, and that's what I did for most of the race.

On another note, I tapped a back marker off at one point, they seemed to almost stop mid corner. Not sure who that was but please accept my belated apologies.

Definitely looking forward to the next race. Do we know when the PnG season will start proper?

(Thanks for hosting the event Legzy Smiley )

Hi all,

I think I've managed to rope a really old, old friend (Daveshep) into joining for the PnG season! If you all don't mind he's going to come along for the race tonight.

He's not too shabby....but of course I'm faster  Tongue

As I have a day off work today I thought I would do some tests with the pit stops...I'm glad I did!

I just learnt that the fuel shown on your pitboard is for how many laps you wish to go to, not how many laps of extra fuel to put in the car. I'm sure most people here knew this, but I didn't!

To practice the stops I just set a race going and pitted every lap. One thing I noticed though, was that I kept forgetting to keep under the speed limit when leaving the pits.

If I happen to do this during the race, would it suffice to impose a drive through penalty on myself?

Managed a 1:14.8 in the Porshe 911 RSR but 15's otherwise. I was on track for a good hour or two, so in a race situation I would likely keep in the 15's, and early 16's.

I also made half a dozen laps in the Gulf, and managed a low 1:14. I've never actually done more than a few laps in any GT40 and that was my first in PnG, so for sure I could go quicker.

EDIT: All the above is based on 10 laps of fuel.

Sorry to Mike for being in your way there and trashing your race,

Don't worry about it Steve, I trashed my own race long before that!
Hope I didn't damage you too much when I crashed into you.

Today I was checking out the PnG post and getting excited about the Season, but mid-race is certainly not the best time to have thoughts about pit stops popping back into your mind...ruinded my whole bloody race!

Oh bugger...

Seems I was getting mixed up with the PnG race with the pit stops...so now I just feel like a prat!
