Title: Any interest for another Skippy fun race Saturday 31st Oct?
Post by: popabawa on October 29, 2009, 09:05:55 AM +0000
Looks like the hosting problems are sorted so I'm wondering if anyone fancies racing Saturday evening? ;D

Seeing as we're running the season in the Skip we'll stick to that.

I propose we keep to the free tracks, we could try Laguna Seca and I'm thinking we'll have a longer race this time? 40 minutes? Maybe longer?

How does that sound?

I'd be up for it. :) What time - afternoon, evening? Which car - free or payable? Have nothing against a payable car, especially if it's a better drive. :)

I was thinking Saturday evening.

The car will be the Skip Barber 2000 (aka: Skippy / Skip :D ) which isn't free but will be the car we use in the upcoming SRouk iRacing league.

It's super-fun, especially compared to the Solstice.

Laguna Seca is free (included in your subscription).

After Strictly?  :)

I can't decide if you mean "Stricty Come Dancing" or you have an S&M party going on...

I was thinking;
Praccy: 17:30 (120 mins)
Qually: 19:30 (30 mins)
Race: 20:00 (45 mins)

I would be interested, but I'm off to the Ring in 3 hours to watch the saturday VLN race. I also get to drive my mates GT3 on the way there and back, which will put a smile on my face  :)

Pffft, where's your commitment Paul? I'm willing to forego strictly so surely you can give the ring a miss  ;) Build it and at least I will come Pops.

What problems were those?

When the hosted racing was launched there was some kind of bug introduced that was slowing down all the servers, which is why the website was very slow on Tuesday.

They've fixed it now

FYI, as someone who has experience in organising this kind of thing before I can tell the best days/nights don't change much over the years and in general this is just the way it is:

1) Sunday - Best night by far. Sunday day time is also reasonable and certainly the best day time slot.
2) Saturday - Saturday night is bad (family entertainment), Saturday day time can sometimes be a goer, but many are out shopping or with family activities, or sporting events.
3) Friday - Friday night is often "the night out", so attendances are not usually great.
4) Thursday - Thursday night is usually pretty good for racing. It's not friday night and it's not football night.
5) Wednesday - Usually poor turnout due to sporting fixtures (most notably football fixtures).
6) Tuesday - Same reason as thursday being good.
7) Monday - Monday night is a funny one. It should be on the face of it same as thursday or tuesday but isn't probably cause people raced on the previous day.

*Monday-Friday day times are rubbish because the majority of racers are at work.

Or, its our best chance of a podium (providing Paul doesn't join using a mouse). This Saturday is nice for me as I don't support Halloween but there's really no panic :)

I will try to attend if you're still going for it Ian. I've nothing else planned atm, but anything can crop up in our household at any time!!

Laguna and skippy is a great combo isn't it  :) Not sure if the physics have been altered recently but, the skippy seems far happier being taken by the neck whereas I felt a rather "timid" approach (thats my attempt at super smooth) was fastest last time I tried it. Would like to run Saturday but would be easily placated if you said this combo was going to be in S1  :)

Whats a good time to aim for?

I'm not at my PC's home so I can't race this weekend.

Is everybody else not racing the Vette and Indy car?

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Practice 1:43.116

Although, my times are not really very good guide lines  lol

I'm doing 1.41s at the moment, hoping to get down to 1.40ish for the race. I'd imagine Brian and the Pauls would be in the 1.39s.

So, are we racing Skippy at Laguna?

I don't know, what do people think about racing tonight? Given that it looks like we've got about 8-10 possible drivers which isn't really a decent field size at Laguna.

Maybe it's better to postpone it until Tuesday when we will probbaly get a decent turnout. I know there's a PnG race that day.

Tried it, I remember this track being the last one I raced before I quit in disgust - a guy literally jumped on me from behind and I got 4 penalty points.
Looking forward to this. :)

So: which settings are in place for dampers, rear wing, can I not set front arb? :(

Whatever it allows you to change you can, and vice versa.

The set-up options are limited to what's allowed in the real life series, you can't change any of those options you mention.

The Skip Barber (in real life) is intended to be the first step on the open wheel ladder and the limited set-up options reflect that.

If we get to the Indycars at some point TT, don't worry, you'll have all the set-up options you could ever want!!! lol
