Season 25 Privateers Trophy - Round 2 - Adelaide

Round 2 of the Privateers Championship for Season 25 takes us to South Australia and Adelaide. An interesting circuit and tough in the 67's.

The 3.780 km (2.349 mi) long "Grand Prix" version of this temporary street track hosted eleven Formula One Australian Grand Prix events from 1985 to 1995, as well as an American Le Mans Series endurance race on New Year's Eve in 2000 (Race of a Thousand Years). This was the last race to be held on the long form of the circuit.

Race List = IGOR
Server = UKGPL_T7_2
Race date = Sunday 21-07-2013
Time = 21:00 UK time (20:00 GMT)
Track = Papyrus original
Race length = 28 Laps
Variant = 1967
Damage Model = Intermediate
Qualifying time = minimum of 30 minutes

Replays Available here (http://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/inc_replaysS25_js.aspx)

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=4026&theme=6)

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

A maximum of one reset is allowed per race & must be followed by a compulsory Stop & Go in the pit lane within two laps of the Reset. If you Reset on the last lap a 30 second time penalty will be awarded.
Incidents should be reported in the usual way.

Please note that for UKGPL has introduced a system of penalties within each series for drivers accumulating yellow cards – see the topic on Penalty Points (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=10879.0). Drivers incurring these penalties will receive a PM advising when a penalty has been applied & what race it should served. Shouldn't need to look for a race or two ;)

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be the full lap. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=402&theme=6) standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Big fun. Lots of mistakes. It was almost impossible to race with Phillipe though. He was warping more than the Enterprise in Star Trek.

Sorry about the touch Phil but you just appeared on my bonnet...

Fun racing Mike, Pierre and Phil though.

I had a brief spin round here last night & was really not looking forward to it;  especially with my PB being a high 1:41.

Qually was better,  but was clearly outclassed.   As I fell away in the race,  there must have been mayhem ahead.
I ended up looking at a safe 3rd place  (clearly mayhem ahead as mentioned!)  but with about 4 laps to go, DSL dropped out.  Grrr!

Nevermind,  I know others have suffered somewhat from similar issues in the past & probably lost out on podium/good positions that have been fought for.  Mine most defo would have been a sort of false result.

Thanks for the run,  although I hardly saw anyone out there.

Of course - still interested to know how things finished up.  Get those provisional results up!   It's been a few minutes already!  :)

Cheers,
Dave.

fun race for me,
I was afraid to the first lap, with Paul behind, but no problem !  ;D

I received a message on my mailbox: incident reported... about??   >:(
I have not caused an accident

I don't like this track, but I finish in 3, so cool...

The message is simply our coming together in Race 1. Nothing to it but you were mentioned.

Difficult track to tame. Good early stint staying with Andreas but never really close enough for a pass. A car span at the hairpin about half distance & I ran too wide & beached on a haybale. Took a SnG & then started putting in my best laps but my internet connection had a blip & disco'd about lap 25. Annoying but it happens.

Never driven Zandy in the 67's in anger. Had a go with race fuel and I could do 1:33 but it was a bit hairy - how far is that off the pace?

Meanwhile, I'd arrived 'down under' with hopes of a good result, as my Ferrari was fast, and the track was tortuous.  Such tortuousity can create torturousity, for those drivers not inclined towards the ferocity, of so many bends as there are, at Adelaide.  And though I may have confused myself with all of this, I remained quietly confident.

While others have moved up to Professional's, I'm happy to see Cookie back with us Privateers.  He's provided the only reliable official, pre-race Server, for many Moon's.  This used to be a widespread service at Ukgpl, and was helpful for practicing pre-race incidents, and to show homeless racers, where to have them.:)

Due to his devoted Server service, and his speed, I allowed the returning Axel the pole, with the Cooper.  My generously compliant nature, continued for a couple of laps into the race, until Cookie's car suffered an excess convolution, and mine transpired into the space, pre-occupied by his 1st place.

Once in front, the Ferrari was dominant, and I was able to maintain a gap back to the chassiacally challenged, Hendy and Andreas.  The situation suddenly changed at midrace, when the track turned suddenly into the start-finish straight, and I turned into a hay bale, after suffering the attack of some uncooperative grass.

My S & G gave Hendy a respectable margin, as my driving outfit became ragged, when pressed too hard.  I daresay, Andreas saw a glimmer of light.  It was very soon after, 1st place was tragically disco'ed, and I re-inherited the lead, and clung onto the speed for the win.

I hereby dedicate this victory, to the memory of Hendy's dematerialized Brabham - lost but not forgotten, down under.  :angel:

Pleasant race. I wouldn't say "good" because I find difficult to glorify being the slowest on the track. I read very recently from experts that the average driver needs at least three appearances at Adelaide to understand how adding 90 deg angles can give a 360deg lap.
Racing F1 is becoming an intellectual challenge for me.

. Once in front, always in front, once last, always last. That's how I understand it and if you don't know by now where my Ferrari spent the race, you're bound to switch to 4 stroke karting.

I hope there were more people driving on the wrong track but just for you, BB, I wish you were here !

LOL - Zandy is next up.

Had another go in the Brabby and it is nice to drive. Went back to the Honda and it was horrific! Might try the Coop as well.

Paul,
You probably want to be sub 1.30 lap times. Another technically challenging track with the appropriately named Tarzan corner (T1) where you can immitate the cry of the Lord of the Jungle when you barke a tad too late & don't know if you will make it. One of those tracks where a good rythm through the curves at the back of the circuit really helps. Does that sound like I know what I'm doing - I'm deeply familiar with the surrounding sand dunes!

You mean you're familiar with bleeding your tires to get out of the sand ? It reminds me of a Meyers dune buggy in the 70s when I was still living in Picardy . Souvenirs ....

Fun racing Mike, Pierre and Phil though.
Not really racing - just competing to see who could spin off the most often :-[
