Title: Spec Race - Rouen - 3 Jan
Post by: vosblod on December 26, 2009, 11:30:30 PM +0000
Due to unforeseen technical difficulties & lack of snow in France the Winter version of Rouen circuit is not available. Have therefore agreed a swap - Sunday drivers will now be at Rouen on 3rd Jan and there will be a fun race at Watkins Glen - complete with snow - on 5th January. (see separate post].
Spec challenge will be the same - BT11 v Ferrari. (65 Mod).
Usual format - 2 x back to back races at the same track - use a different car in each race.
Unlimited Shift R permitted. This is an unmoderated fun race but please drive responsibly. Would be great to get past the hairpin with all cars on track.
Hope to see you there ... Bill

I should be OK for this one if I can locate some decent setups in time.

Dont think this clashes with any Interleague fixture but suggest the usual Sunday Drivers start time of 9.15 UK time.

Would be great if we could use your server and ukgpl5 is not available. Don't want to risk using mine until all problems sorted.
Bill will let you know re lap numbers...

Thanks Nicky,
Usual distance for Sunday Drivers is about 20 - 25 minutes for each race. That should work out to about 9 laps at Rouen.

Hi Bill,
In two warm up races at Rouen, we've rubbed wheels in both, which is little thanks for your organising these winter events.  Your more consistant laps have put me both ahead and behind, and you do insist on driving fast when I'm trying to pass you!

The fault is mine - being inexperienced online, I'm finding humans behave differently to ai on the track.  So I offer an official apologee before the collective masses, and individually to clumps (could've worded that better) I may have clouted.

If GEM+ conjours up a simulated hospital bed, and won't let me join this evenings race, I shaln't complain - it's usual when driving by brail.
Martin.

Here are the results for the 4th Sunday Drivers meeting at Rouen.
First a big thanks to Nicky Ickx for providing the server.
There was an excellent turnout and some good racing.
In the pre-race post I asked for a careful start to make sure we all get through the hairpin on Lap 1 unscathed. That's exactly what we got but there was the mother of all piles ups just after the hairpin. It had a certain Wigan based driver spitting blood & pie. Never mind - it is a fun race.
Victory in Race 1 went to John Roberts but his result is excluded from the Spec Challenge by  not taking the Ferrari - that might just have cost him the double win.
Race 2 was won by Vlad "the Monk" Vosblod. The Monk has vowed to give up booze and other wordly vices for a while to work on improving his GPL skills & that seems to be paying big dividends. In order to restore the natural order I am sending round a crate of brain death lager & a supply of filthy pron magazines.
The podiums in races 1 & 2 were filled by Sam Blood, Clutch & John Roberts. Sam has duly been reported to the university authorities for neglecting his studies and spending too much time hot lapping.
Comparing fastest laps in the BT11 and Ferrari - the Brabham won the challenge by a clear five seconds. (Aggregate times for all drivers completing half race distance). So far the red machines have lost every Spec Challenge.
Next event on 17 January will be at Zeltweg, Austria with the Cooper taking on the Brabham BT7. Track can be downloaded from the usual track database.
Hope to see you there ... Bill

The Monk may be on the wagon but send round your filthy magazine collection. I must immediately burn such heathen and ungodly filth  ;)

Anyway well chuffed with the win, mishaps from others helped and if it had been longer then 5 laps I would have been in trouble.
Still a win is a win, doesn't get logged in my stats though  :(

Roll on the next one...

Fun ? Fun ? there's nothin funny about a hastily swallowed steak & kidley , gives you terrible indy digestion and not to mention the flatulance.

(if only you could bottle it and feed it to the carbs ) Ah! but that would be cheating,  and my real name isn't Alonso  ::)
