Thanks José !

One of my favorite tracks where I collected some of my best results and the first of my very rare wins, but this one wasn't a burner.
Big problems to keep the car on the road although I used the setup from last year. Only two or three satisfying laps.
It's weird but after a three years break I had my first training session in a fitness studio yesterday and actually had muscular problems when
driving through the corners high on the mountain  Roll Eyes . Getting older ist a kind of a pain  Sad  but doc requested me to do some sports again.
Bad strategy concerning this race  Tongue

But thanks for organizing another great event to all involved.

I was having a cracking race following a gaggle of other cars a little up the road from me when disaster struck. Entering the final turn at the end of lap 2(?) I had to take avoiding action to miss a spinner. My route took me inadvertently on the wrong side of the fencing on the right hand side of the track and I then had to bounce along the grass seeking an escape gap to let me back on the track. Drove past an exit  Roll Eyes so had to spin around and find the gap again. Entered the track and span around to face the right direction but just crossed into the pit lane so I then received a stop/go for me troubles. By the time I had served that I had been lapped by most. Pitted at lap ten for fuel only but only made up places due to the miss fortune of others. Enjoyed the track tho so well done for choosing it guys  thumbup1

Bremgarten next. Oh what to drive, what to drive  Huh

Excellent event as always, was even fun lapping alone in the second half of the race.

Went with the D-type as I don't really like it & wanted to get it out of the way. Was really surprised I qualified it so highly, I didn't think I was that quick in it! Got a belter of a start & was 2nd into T1, noticed the mayhem behind & wanted to make good my escape before the fast cars recovered. ARGH  Shocked, T2 braked too late, went off the edge of the track to the left & promptly undid the fine start. This dropped me back into the clutches of several Astons which proved impossible to hold back on the straights.

Had several laps dicing with Rog, Bob & MChahine until I made my pitstop at the end of lap 12. Only added fuel, no tyres & this seemed to gain me a lot of time over the other cars as I was well ahead of those I had been dicing with after the stops were completed. Rest of the race was lonely but still entertaining & it was only in the last couple of laps when the tyres went off that I struggled a bit. Bit lucky to get 5th at the end, but more than happy with that in the Jag.  Wink

Congrats to Clive, Jose & Jeep, well driven guys.  clap clap clap

PS: Nearly forgot, apologies to Rog for rear-ending you twice approaching the final corner  Embarrassed. The first time it caught me out how early you needed to brake, but having seen that, there was no excuse for me doing it again!  Sad

A great circuit, which I have always liked.

For me the biggest success was completing a pit stop without penalties and screw-ups!!

I still had the setup from the last race to use on that insane Maserati 5.7, and although I now had a target time from my last race I also remembered that the setup was right on the edge of controllable.
So I spent 30 minutes on Sunday adjusting a few things and sacrificing outright speed for a more comfortable ride  Wink.
Even so, I fully expected the resident aliens to be quicker and was just hoping to get a grid slot maybe row 3??  When I saw the practice times I figured that people were sandbagging a little. When we got to qualifying. it got quicker..but I was still in the hunt. So I tried dumping race fuel and going for a banzai lap..........it did not work and I was slower. So back to race fuel and just tried to get a clear, clean lap without ripping the rear tyres to shreds!
Amazingly that pipped Jose's pole time and now I was seriously under pressure for the start!! T1 was going to be crucial because the power of the Mazzer would probably drag me clear of the pack ( with maybe a couple of Maseratis in close attendance down to T2).
I think I got an almost perfect start and a short shift into 2nd to keep wheelspin under control launched me down to T1. Tippy toed around T1 and very carefully squeezed the gas to get the beast moving. A quick glance in the mirror gave me a shock..............no-one there???!!
Reading the posts, it seems that a couple of cars tangled and allowed me to escape...well what can I say except "Thankyou"  Grin

After being gifted that lead I was determined not to throw it all away and so I drove carefully for 2-3 laps as the tyres warmed before actually pushing hard.

Once I had found my pace I very gradually eased away, although John was staying annoyingly consistent, and close enough, to take advantage of any mistakes.
The next major problem was going to be  The Pitstop!!!!  scared scared scared scared scared

Given my record this was where it was likely to go wrong. I had fuelled the car to the max, and that offered me approx 15 laps, so I planned to pit at around 14 laps and then fully fill the tanks again ( maybe I could have worked out that a little less would do the job, but I wasn't taking any chances!). I kept looking at the gaps behind and knew that I had approx 25 secs in hand over Ati, but only about 16 over Jeep. If they did not take tyres this could get very interesting.
At 14 laps my tyres were definitely past their best and I was having to back off over the crests on the main straight, just to keep the car under control!

OK pitstop time so don't panic. Very slow approach, get into the pitlane cleanly, tickover in 1st gear and very gently to my mechanic. New tyres and full tank of fuel seemed to take about a month!! as cars zoomed past.
Pit stop over and very slowly crawled along the pitlane, being sure to go right to the end  Wink and then a cautious out lap on cold tyres.

Once the tyres came up to temp it was great. 10 laps to go, plenty of fuel and loads of rubber. I was shown back in 3rd spot and for a couple of laps I wondered if I had been just a little too careful in the pits and had been jumped by cunning drivers not changing tyres. Even so, I figured that with the pace of that monster I could certainly close up and maybe regain the lead. In fact the other cars had simply delayed their stops and I was handed back 1st spot within 2 laps.
From here, it was just a case of bringing it home and maintaining concentration but I still managed a couple of dumb mistakes which could have ruined my day.

Grats to all the finishers and I suspect Jose is right about it being a lot closer if he had avoided the T1 delay. I was able to manage the gap back to Jose because I had the benefit of that cushion, and I could put in a fast lap if I needed to without any pressure.

Thanks to all for making the lapping easy, I did try to announce my approach with my headlights, it was not an attempt to intimidate anyone.  Cheesy

Tony has really put on the thumbscrews this year, with only one drive per make (bar the Ferraris).  Major headache sorting out which car to use where, but lots of studying last season's laptimes and additional testing during the weekend, finally yielded a compromise.  The 250 TR may seem an odd choice for this track, but I wanted to save the more obvious ones for later use.

Was a couple of tenths off my pb in qual, but at least got a sub 2:20 lap.  Start went well, and the mayhem at T1 left me fairly unscathed, except for losing both taillights and a headlight. Also gained a couple of places, and then another when Geoff went wide at T2.  Thus in an unlikely 3rd position.  Ahead Clive & John were fast disappearing, and I was giving Ziu behind me the slip over a few laps.

3rd lasted longer than expected, but with a string of aliens behind me, and in faster cars no less, it couldn't last. First up was Ati. He had almost caught me, when I believe he tangled with Bill and dropped back. He was soon back, passing on the straight without fuss.  Next up was Jose. My poor Fezza was no match for his Monster Masser, and he blew past on the straight with such speed that I wondered if my car was in reverse..  Shocked

Thus back to 5th, but regained places when people started to pit - even led for a couple of laps. My own stop was at the end of L16. No tyres and fuel for 10 laps saw me rejoin in 6th. Stole 5th from Ati, when he went botanizing.  Later gained 4th from Ziu, when he made a very late and apparently troublesome pitstop.

Most of my race was fairly lonely, but as my XD display obscured most of the pitboard, I could see neither my position nor the distance to the car ahead. Thus didn't know if there was a reason to push, so just drove it like I stole it the entire race, just to be on the safe side..  Grin

Grats to the podium and all who finished.

My hopes and goal for this race was that my underdog of a car could 'outnimble' some of the faster cars.  With 4th, I'm not sure I can call it mission accomplished, but with a full complement of aliens present, I probably shouldn't complain  Smiley

Cheers,
Erling

I have to admit my heart sank a little on joining qualifying finding myself in the only Ferrari 375 and doubts about my car choice  tormented me for a while.. Was this the night I had bought a knife to a gunfight?

I knew the Mazza's were going to be stong here and I had played around with both leading up to the big event but my survivability in the Mazza here was dubious to say the least.

Q went well and I found myself sitting in 4th behind 2 of the beasts and also ATI in a very quick Aston.

The flag dropped and we were off, ATI squezzed me a little off the line forcing me to get off the throttle which allowed Geoffers through but it played in my favour as I managed to just about avoid the incident at T1 and headed down towards T2 having made up a place , now behind Clive and Geoffers. He ran wide into T2 and I was up to 2nd.. "Well, this is all going very well" I thought to myself... Clive appeared to be running the "Super Softs" as his grip seemed way better than anything I had so he was able to pull away at an alarming rate, meanwhile Erling was doing an amazing job in the little F250 behind. Slowly as the race unfolded Clive extended his lead over me and I in turn managed to do the same to Erling.

My mind drifted towards the Pit Stop. Did I need tyres, I had done 26 laps on 1 set in practice a few times and knew it would only be the last 4 or so laps where I would really suffer and begin to lose seconds per lap. The maths said no tyres, my brain said otherwise... All too quickly The dreaded moment arrived and by this time my nerves were already shredded thinking about it. Over cautious on the approach I was on the limiter way before the pit entrance, crept down the pit lane searching for a friendly face holding a Wheel Jack swung in to issue my instructions and no pit board??? !$%&* missed my stopping point Back up a few feet and "Ah there it is". It was at this point my fingers stopped working and what should have been akin to Rick Wakeman caressing the keys became a Les Dawson moment. After selecting all the wrong stuff during which time the pit crew were staring at me quizzically and discussing the football I finally barked my orders still unsure of exactly what I had asked for.. It seemed like an eternity as I watched cars stream past and after fuel, tyres and what seemed like a full service I was on my way and by this time down to 6th. Careful to not incur a S&G I merged back onto the racing line and hoped that most in front still had to pit..

As the stops unfolded over the next few laps I found myself back up to 3rd behind Clive and ZiuBacubacu with a fair bit of empty road both in front and behind. Around Lap 16 I could here a strange noise.. Hmm, gearbox, Axle, brakes? Lap times were pretty consistent then it dawned on me. There was a big Red Mazza closing fast behind. I knew it was inevitable and sure enough a few laps later I was down to 4th as Jose steamed past. Still I have a good lead over Coyote in the little F250 so a 4th place finish isn't the end of the world. Then I saw ZiuBacubacu in the pits and got my podium back. Had 1 scare on Lap 22 when I spin through 180  in the complex before the main straight but fortunately I had sufficient in hand to recover before the little F250 could become a worry.

Final few laps were driven with the knowledge that catching the front 2 was not going to happen unless either crashed and I had a healthy lead over Erling back in 4th so just bought it home.

Yes, very amusing reads guys - not least John's pitstop  lol

Was yelling at my own pit crew - after filling up with the selected fuel, they just held me another 10-15 secs (felt like 5 minutes) before releasing me

I had done 26 laps on 1 set in practice a few times

hehe, probably not.

I don't get much time during the week to practice but Friday and Saturday nights I do "Have a session" after the pub when right minded people have long since gone to bed and will bludgeon a track to death over many hours if I'm not familiar with it. I'm hoping I can remain at least competitive over the season by only concentrating on a few championships although I'll probably miss a few races due to working away. (Unfortunately "Sorry I have to race at Monza that week" doesn't quite cut it with management). thumbdown

Quick Question...
I have found myself sitting on the grid a few times and my "Health" is showing something ridiculous like 46% (Even though the race hasn't started).. I found at Bathurst that repeatedly exiting to the garage and then rejoining the grid eventually got me 96%. Is this normal? Do others have to do this or is it just me?

Thanks in advance

Like Tony says, it's perfectly normal.  Engine health is only a problem if it drops to 0%, at which point your engine goes bang.  Most cars have very stable engine health, but for some it will drop if you rev them hard enough.  Thus best to start out with a resonably high level, and keep an eye on it during a race.
