I'd rather have a license than some badly corrupted cd in the name of copy protection.
PCC and F3 are superb IMHO. I don't ever feel hooked up with GTL, I'm kinda glad I bought it, It's nice to have seen some of the old cars.
TT did u see there was a PCC practice race tonight?

Lol! Sometimes u talk completely out of ur ass F0zz. There's nothing 'badly corrupted' about a cd with starforce protection! The protection itself, ok, not my piece of cake either, but the cd is just a normal cd T

There are many ways copy protection can work but in the past copy protection has subtle corruptions of the disc and/or the filesystem, which are skipped over/corrected in normal access, but by inspecting the disc layer and/or individual bits in the filesystem you can read, and thus be pretty sure its the real disc. I don't specifically know about StarForce however, but as it installs a special driver, I'm thinking that it is almost certainly inspecting individual bits (I'm sure it'll be hard to find out how, I suspect they'll be cagey about details). It's possible these are outside the data area, It'd be reasonable to use a different track maybe in a non-standard location.. In any case its not accessing the data in a normal way, thus you probably will loose these seemless corrections that happen on CD's (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_disc ) and find "Mode-2" Fozz

I was racing GTL. Would be better to have joined GRC, I think.

Gonna ,miss this one (family duties :-() Real shame as I was looking forward to this one. Fozz, Gotta agree with you to a certain extent, since racing the PCC at Essington my whole view on rFactor has changed. I too feel more "connected" driving the PCC than I do GTL. That may just be because it better suits my driving style though, who knows.

Jam, do you remember what my time was BTW, I don't know if I've lost a lot of speed, or if I'm just plain far slower than I thought I was. rF doesn't store online times :-S

Do a Google on it if you really want to know how it works. The problems StarForce can cause are entirely down to the way it verifies the physical parameters of the disc - not because the disc itself is "wrong".

Sorry, not going to be at this one. I can't stop all my 3D games from crashing after a few minutes usage. No idea what's going on, no overheating, memory is fine, just crashes a lot. Just to desktop not whole PC or anything, although I had 1 blue screen yesterday.

Are you running 64bit Shark ? Iv'e heard that this can cause some issues. However sounds like it might be some dodgy ram.

I'm running Windows XP Pro (32-bit) with an AMD64 4000+.
I did a ramtest that showed up nothing, it's set to the specified RAM timings from the manufacturers information. It only does it during 3D Games, so I doubt it's a problem with RAM anyway.
Tried 5.13 and 6.12 ATI drivers.
Gonne try reseating everything in a minute, but that wont be the problem.

Had a nice little battle at the end of the race with Truetom, I'm sure I could smell TT's melting tyres coming out from the monitor Other than that didn't really get involved in racing anybody else. Thanks for letting the boys come out to play Mike Hope you get your Computer sorted shark

Well I had a good race. Tire wear was the story, stressful with TT behind me for about 20 minutes, till he cooked em and fell back into JonM (what u doing back there?). Hoped more UKGTR'ers would show, but thanks to those who did turn up, 16ppl turned up in the end, so its not too bad :-).
Is it worth organising another one and more crucially will more people turn up (its UKGTR's turn to host if we do)?
Fozz
