Hi folks!  Cookie's video clips of 1970 F1's, down the page, caught my eye.  I hung up my wheel in Online competition here awhile ago, but I've continued working with the private team's who cobble carsets together.


Working alone, I've greatly modified a carset that was sitting, untouched for 5 years.  The surprise is such, that no-one on the Forum seems interested in viewing the video I made, to showcase the improvements!  So I'll let you decide if it's worth watching.  8) Dark glasses not necessary.

I am guessing that this is the mythical, and much talked about in dark corners,1935 mod? If that progress is down in part to you, then thanks Martin.

TBH I was surprised and impressed that it is apparently now at such an advanced stage and it has got the juices flowing. The 1955 mod has rejuvenated my enjoyment of GPL, with the brake fade and totally different handling. It looks like the '35 mod is a step further along that path and if it ever sees the light of day will be even more unique. There are umpteen racing sims for modern cars, a few like GPL that dip into the 60's and just a handful that feature the 50's in GP and Sports Cars. But to my knowledge there are none that have visited the 30's??
Are we likely to be getting our sweaty hands on these cars Martin? or is there more development to be done to bring them to the usual high standard that we have come to expect from the GPLPS?? I think we all understand that everything takes time and commitment and that probably there is only one project on the workbench at a time?
One vote here for this mod to be moved up the list.  ;)

I have watched these cars at the Goodwood Revival and it is staggering that drivers actually raced in these projectiles and at such high speeds. I was also privileged to be at the Revival when Mercedes brought their Silver Arrows show to the circuit, complete with Auto Unions and Mercs. The "demonstration" laps with celebrity drivers gradually turned into a race and I have a short clip of sir Jackie Stewart almost losing a W196 with a wheel on the grass!  That could have been a very, very  expensive "off".

Making the 1955 cars look good, was not easy.  We had a very talented team who pulled through in the end, but it was an uphill battle.

1935's are a step further away, from the 60's comfort zone our talent were weened on.  To step around some previous difficulties, I've learned how to modify the models provided - shape & layout - and thrown in some artwork as well.  The video was made to showcase what's possible with a little time and effort.

And as to destiny - it takes a team of specialists, to get a carset looking and running smoothly.  Top of the 1935 list, is a GPL model expert, to rearrange the model tree draw order.  GPL models don't need watering, they need oiling!  Then, Artists to improve the paintwork.  Suspensionists for suspensions, non-layabouts for layouts . . . . .

Physics are presently basic - laptimes inaccurate.  If things were to get moving, brake fade, and also tyre wear are planned.  There remains much to do.

I kind of guessed that the beauty was in the eye of this beholder  ::)

I think us mere mortals are only vaguely conscious of the enormous work and commitment that goes on to make these mods work properly and without flaws. In fact they are as good as any purchased sim, which says something for the professionalism of the GPLPS guys, ( yourself included!).

I fervently hope that this mod sees the light of day and we get to run off the track without brakes or grip at many classic tracks!!
