Title: nKpro - GPC Challenge - 15th September
Post by: picnic on September 08, 2006, 10:26:08 AM +0100
SbG has suggested a SimRacing vs. GPC netKar Pro event or two. As Game seem to be the only ones to not have moved GTR 2 release back a week my feeling is it will be a week late now. So as a distraction we will run one of these challenge events next week. Due to smaller grid sizes we only need 8 to sign up.

Date: Friday 15th September

Practice: 8:00pm (20 mins)
Qual: 8:20pm (20 mins)
Race: 8:40pm (15 laps)

Track: Prato GP
Cars: 1800

Server: SRou vs GPC
Password: srouvsgpc

The start procedure will be STANDING START

In case you can't see the server in the lobby it will be available at the usual location, enter games.avonrise.co.uk in to the server IP field.

SRou Drivers

SbG
Picnic
Mo
Rob B
Eddie
Pops
Martin

Fozz  50/50

Yes ;)

Cheers Picnic  :).

Is the maximum number on server 15? If it is, then there's only room for 7 of us. Sorry but I thought we might struggle for numbers. If we are oversubscribed I have no qualms about missing this one as the whole point was to encourage more from here to be involved and I'm hooked already  ;).

Best get in quickly Shark.

Im in - despite all the negativity surrounding this sim, Ive found it to be excellent, and Jaap at GPC has, and is, doing a sterling job in organising the championship.

Cheers

Rob

Thought I'd post a few NK links for anyone who's thinking of joining.
Racing NK with a full grid can be very stressful on most systems so :

Here's a link to some FAQs provided by Jaap at GPC:
http://flyingpigpedia.wetpaint.com/page/netKar-PRO+FAQ
I dont think that you have to register to read it...........

Here's another guide from Jaap
http://forum.gpchampionship.com/viewtopic.php?t=371
I think you will have to register to read this one..........

In the nkpro.ini change the mipmap bias from 2.5 to 0.8. This will not only make it look better imo but also improves fps alot.

Even after all this and if after the race starts there are performance/fps issues then press 'H' to turn off shaders. This can increase fps too.

Also there is a known bug with NK where players may not get sync'd with the server when they join. When you join the server have a check in the chat at top of incar screen to make sure that your arrival has been announced.
For example when I join a race there is a chat announcement saying 'Mo has joined the race'. If this announcement is not made as soon as you join then you are not in sync and should try joining again.
Being out of sync means that there is no 'Go to Grid' button at grid formation time, meaning it is impossible to actually join the race.

And finally here's a setup for the F1800 at Prato. It may not suit everyone but for me it makes the car much less understeery and also more stable under braking.
http://www.kerbcrawlers.net/ezupload/files/index.php?path=mo%2F&download=f1800_prato_mo.nks

Good luck,
Mo.

I expect there will be room. Fozz is only a maybe and SbG or myself will dip out to encourage others to enjoy this Sim if need be.

To be fair Picnic, considering the amount of league racing I've done in NK at this stage, I'd prefer to drop out and give my slot.
I'd much prefer to see you guys having the chance to race a full grid in NK.

So there will be space Martin, either way  8)

Welcome aboard Martin  :).

Don't think anyone will have to drop out, as that is about it for UKGTR'ers NK'ers I think. A small but elite band. Only if Shark changes his mind, unlikely with that philistine  ;), will we have to change around.

Fozz if you can make it, pm me on the day and one of us will drop out to let you in. As Mo said, we are lucky to enough to have had plenty of fun already so that will be fine. Hope you can get there.

Looking forward to it and thanks once again to Picnic for putting it on.

Those nasty people at GPC  ;), will be using this skin

http://www.soosiaal.com/temp/gpcinterl.zip

Its not mandatory to use it, they will just appear red if you don't. But a UKGTR one should be arriving soon and it should add to the atmosphere if you do. Plus, it will allow Pops to feel guilty when he does his standard "Teamy T-bone" thing  ;)

Thanks for the set-up Mo, it feels pretty good even for me!

What's a decent time round here in the 1800? I was knocking out 1:40's but I suspect mid-1:30's ought to be where I'm aiming!

Title: Re: nKpro - GPC Challenge - 15th September
Post by: picnic on September 14, 2006, 06:55:16 PM +0100
I somehow snuck a high 37 when we tested the server earlier in the week but a normal time for me is more like a 39. Consistency is a real problem for me as I cockup 30% of upshifts even when trying to use the manual clutch  :-\ Poor gearbox

Title: Re: nKpro - GPC Challenge - 15th September
Post by: Martin Steinmetz on September 14, 2006, 07:22:43 PM +0100
did some low 34s in practice, which is still 2secs slower than the best times on nKrank :-/

Tires seem to be fading really fast, but that could be my driving ;-)

I'll be at the back of the field then...  :'(

BTW, do we know how good the opposition is?

Ok there are three skins for the interleague race - 2 GPC skins made by Gerrit and Simon, and a UKGTR skin also made by Gerrit. Thanks guys :thumbup1:

Click on the pics to download each of the 3 skins.
Extract the skins to your :\netKarPro\cars\Formula1800\skins  directory. This should create 3 folders : GPCinterL, GPCinterL#02 and UKGTRinterL.

Thats better, cheers Mo.

Don't worry pops. The GPC team is made up from all standards, which is what we needed, and should provide racing for us all. And many of them have hardly used the 1800 cars, so they might be slow for a bit  :)

Cheers SBG. I got into the 1:37's in the end last night so hopefully there will be a few at that pace.

These 1800's are SO much fun to drive  :D

We had a wee problem early on, the server for some strange reason had an upload of 30kbps. Hardly sufficient! Up'ed it to 9000k for the last race and everything was a lot better, but we were down to 8 or 9 runners by then.

If I schedule another for next Friday will the GPC boys be able to make it Mo/SbG? Feel we need to do one more :)

The actual CPU load on the server is miniscual. I didn't look during the race but with several of us on track in qually the load was 2% :) Bandwidth was around 900kbps during the race and that includes the Remote Desktop feed to me.

On that basis we should be able to support 50 cars without an issue if only the tracks were big enough and the game allowed it ;)

Thanks for sticking with it Picnic :). Race 3 was well worth the wait and a nice UKGTR 1,2,3 to finish (mind you only 2 GPC members remained  ;)). To be honest I had no lag when server was "broke" and the last race was as smooth as silk.

I have set the wheels in motion over at GPC for next week and hopefully we can drum up the same team from here? I guess we'll know by Monday if sufficient GPC numbers are interested.

And thx again for putting it on.

Sorry I was so bloomin' awful, I got home really late from work so hadn't done any practice immediately before the race, I just couldn't get into it at all :(

Thanks for the server Picnic 8)

First race was very shaky alright but whatever change you made for the final race had a massive effect. The server was running smooth as silk so really looking forward to next weeks race.
There's some results and race stats here:

....in other words we trounced them :P ;)
