Cars allowed: Any standard GTC-76 car

Car restrictions: None

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: 2x
Pit stops: Required

Server: simracing.org.uk Monday
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: None

You made one person happy in any case Tony! Looking forward to this one.

(ps. Essen is a ugly town somewhere in Germany. Assen on the other hand is a very pretty little town in Holland with its own racetrack 8))

Just spotted this post and almost did not bother reading as the date was so far ahead.

Would I be right in assuming that if I ensure that I only have the GTC-76 box ticked on the GTL start screen, that I can choose any of the cars that show??

I am nowhere near even looking at this track or cars yet...I mean, Dec 22nd is eons in the future isn't it. Maybe I will take a look at this over the previous weekend of the 20/21st

It's a tricky track Evil, and needs learning (IMO).

If you select the GTC-76 box then the cars that should be available to you are.................

BMW CSL

Chevrolet Corvette

De Tomaso Pantera

Ford Capri

Ford Escort

Porsche 906

Porsche 914-6

Porsche 911 RSR

Well, as it is a motorcycle track in the first place it is maybe not like most tracks we visit with GTL. As for its fast and flowing nature you need to be a bit early on the brakes so you do not kill your cornerspeed so much and can keep your momentum going.

Mmm looking at the car list i am sure Tony is going for the big block Corvette... :P

I got a virus warning when I tried installing the track.  Despite the very small file (8.6Mb), the installation seemed to hang, with lots of harddrive activity.  Was interrupted by Norton, with a warning about suspicious behaviour and threat level high.  Downloaded from Amazon S3. Tried Gamefront instead, but got a 'file not found' there.

Any one else run into this ?

Edit:

I downloaded Assen from NoGrip instead. It comes as an archive, so no .exe files and virus warnings here.  Wanted to verify I had the right version, so logged on to the on-line server. The cars I could select were only my add on GTC-76 - the standard ones were not there.  When I entered the sever, I got a 'Car not present on server' error and got booted shortly after.  Is this an indication that the track is incorrect, or could there be something screwy with the cars on the server ?

Cheers,
Erling

Well, given my numpty status in all things computer related.... I had no probs at all.

D/loaded the circuit from the amazon link,
Installed,
Fired it up,
and did a couple of laps in a random car as per Tony's advice about a tricky circuit to learn.

All seemed fine.

But.... I have had some odd messages at times when installing new circuits in the past. I only use AVG free, so maybe it is not as aggressive as your Norton?

Norton used to be a good product but now IMO it's bloatware and should be replaced by something more effective.

I will check the server tonight and report back.

Thanks Tony And Clive.

Norton frequently comes up with warnings when I install new cars and tracks, but up til now, it's only been of the kind that their knowledge of the file is limited, when very few customers have used it.  This one was different, and as mentioned, the installation process was working far longer than before, hence my reluctance to give it free reign on my computer.  May be a false alarm, but who's to say Amazon's file hasn't become infected since you guys downloaded it.

Cheers,
Erling

Track download is free of nasties and is identical to the download from nogrip.

Forgot to set the right cars up on the server but I think that's fixed now.

Let me know if anyone has further problems please.

I see that there are pitstops in this race ( oh joy unbounded! )

I am guessing from my few trial laps that the cars will not make it on a single tankful of fuel with 2x fuel consumption. So, everyone will need to refuel at least once,  but do we HAVE to change tyre(s) ? or is that optional??

None of the cars will make it without ONE pitstop for go juice. Tyres can be changed but it's not mandatory.

Down to 2:49s in the CSL.  PC Locking up for no apparent reason, had new MB and cpu fitted.  Utility shows temps all OK.  After turning off power, immediately back on and restarting had another half an hours practice without any probs.  Temps Were only 4 deg C higher than temps between the two sessions.

Don't know if it's PC or software problem.  Will have visitors over Christmas but hope to drive in couple events.  8)

Also see email is screwed up again with rubbish being generated even when my PC is turned off.  Will try and sort out tomorrow.

Well!! I totally screwed up that race with a comprehensive list of errors!! :stupid: :stupid: :stupid:

A jump start...SnG

Run wide T1 on L1  ...fall to back of field

Forgot to re engage speed limiter during SnG..Speeding in pit lane... another SnG!!

I think I passed poor Bill about 5 times in the first 2 laps!!

Now some 40 secs behind the field but decide to banzai every lap and try to salvage something.

By the time we get to the pitstops I have caught a couple of cars and decide to push the envelope to the limit and go for the full 13 laps. Plan id to take on fuel only as the tyres look just about good enough to get to the end.

Short shift all through lap 13 to be sure of making pit lane and cruise into my crew chief

Select full fuel load and...............................................I get Dq'd!!!!  ????
Not a happy bunny :-\

hope the rest of you had more fun ( and luck) cyall after the festivities..enjoy.

Fun to meet you again  :D ...& not least, support TEAM-GTLDK  8)

Assen, never tried, but fun...when you could remember to brake the right places.  :o

Qual:
Went ok, but not satisfied...because I'm used to using 'Advanced Setup'. Instead of only 1 garage, you have 2 pages...well, more options such as assymetrical.

Race:
hehe, I must admit (there was at least one who saw it) on one of the first laps, I mistook a turn and drove into the grass. I mention no names, but the person who took the lead...spin around the turn after  ;D
After this, no errors  ;)

One thing I was too slow, after the race, Erling & I spoke in chat...all disappeared and no so I wrote: Merry Christmas

The next track is Rouen, one of my favorites from GPL...I will try everything to be with you.

Cheers

ohh, just before our race today - now we are here in the UK - I read a sad news, a singer when I got a record (think I was 14) and I still have it, a slightly 'different' to the famous Beatles: With a little help from my friends.

R.I.P. Joe Cocker

You may have read in Pelle's post that he mentions "advanced setup". More details of this can be found here http://www.gamers-crib.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13173

The current view of UKGTL is that we would prefer drivers not to use this as it appears to offer an unfair advantage. However if enough drivers choose to employ this aid then we will encourage it's use and promote it accordingly. I have setup a thread for discussion here.

Congrats to Pelle on an excellent victory, much faster than I could manage in the Capri (2.21s!  :o).

I didn't have too bad a run to 2nd place despite a few errors. First after Pelle went off I led for a whole 2 corners before changing down one gear too many & spinning off myself. This put me back to 3rd just behind Postal & following him closely at the end of the same lap I braked too late for the fast left before the chicane & went off hard into the barriers. Thought that would be race over, but the car seemed fine afterwards although I'm sure it contributed to some uneven front tyre wear & terminal understeer for the rest of the race.

Final error was when I couldn't stop in time to avoid rear-ending Postal & sent him spinning into the gravel. Big apologies for that Postal  :'(.
In the end happy with 2nd.

Happy Christmas to all, cya for the Sprints next week.

and damaged my suspension so I had to pit again and quitted.

Merry Christmas to you all guys. CU next week.

Can't say that this track will ever be in my top 10. Took the Porsche 906 as it felt the nicest to drive and I was fastest in it during offline praccy. Hadn't realised that the Capri was going to be the car to drive, I hated it  ::)
Anyway everything was going ok until I lost concentration, headed on to the grass, couldn't stop and hit a barrier at full chat and killed the car.
Watched the others racing which was fairly entertaining. Hope to do better in the three remaining races.

Hope you all have a very happy holiday with your loved ones and that Santa brings you that present you were hoping for. See you all on the 29th.

Post by: Erling G-P on December 23, 2014, 03:57:02 PM +0000
If you can handle it, the Capri obviously was the choice here.  I can't, so had to pick another car.  Offline, I tested the 911RSR & Pantera too, but while I could lap faster than in the 906, I could certainly also spin off a lot more  :D - add to that that they both use more fuel and munch tires at a much higher rate; especially the Panty, and the choice was a no-brainer.

Qualified 4th and got ok off the line, but Clive suddenly swerved into my path, so we touched and I had to brake. That gave Tony the opportunity to slip through.  Passed him at the end of L1, when I got a better exit from the chicane.  He chased me over the following laps, but suddenly was gone, when he went off.  Gaps to Capris in front and cars behind were growing, so all by myself, until I suddenly spotted a dustcloud at the end of the long semi-straight.  That was Geoffers and Postal, digging themselves out of the sand, and I got myself wedged between them.  Soon passed by Geoffers, when I overshot my braking point.

Race then quited Down, until after my pitstop at the end of L14.  Suddenly realised I had Postal chasing me.  He got past, when I ran wide going into the corner after the long straight, but then spun himself a lap later. Passed him and was chased for a couple of laps, until he passed me on the straight.  I did the gentlemanly thing and left the door open for him to pass, as he was clearly faster  8)  Of course tried to hang on as best I could, hoping for another mistake, but that didn't happen.  Thus finished as started - 4th.

Grats to the podium, especially Pelle - he looked rather normal when we met earlier this year, but obviously is pure alien...  ;D

Commiserations to Bill - I passed your 'shimmering' car just before you left, so guess your PC crashed or you somehow lost connection  :(

Merry Christmas everyone; hope to see you all next Monday.

Cheers,
Erling

Looks like the Capri was the car to take, but only had time to try the 906, which turned out to be a joy to drive, disappointed to be 10+ secs slower than you fast guys and when Pelle lapped me he had the cheek to wiggle the back of his car at me LOL. Had an almost perfect pit stop just forgot what button for limiter.

Grats to Pelle on race win
Grats to Podium

Merry Christmas to everyone

It most commonly happens if the installed track of the driver concerned has been obtained from another sim site. Why it happens to you and you alone is baffling. Can you describe the location of your "Locations" folder? e.g. C:/GTL/Gamedata/Locations or somesuch.

Really nice to have had a race on my home track with GTL! Had a blast. The Cathedral of Speed! :punk: I planned to race the Capri here because i didn't;t had the chance to race it anywhere before. Indeed not the easiest of rides available, but i reckon if i could maintain a reasonable race pace i should end up somewhere upfront.

The car suffered from some serious understeer and front tires who would not keep heat, but it seems Pelle got it dialed in nicely even without the use of Advanced Setup! Dude you got me puzzled!  :notworthy:
Did qually with my 1,5 year old daughter on my lap as she would not go to sleep! Luckily my wife came home with some 5 min. to race start. Pfew
Good to see some other racers turning up too for this GTL race!  :thumbup1:
My start was good running alongside Geoffers, but had to settle for 3rd place at T1 as i was on the outside. They showed me how to drive a Capri around here as keeping the gap as small as possible was all i could do. After an off from Geoffers we had some nice scraps for 2nd and later on with Erling for 3rd spot.

Well done to all contenders and thanks for racing! Appreciate this track being on the 2015 calender again! (indeed it needs some learning, but can be rewarding to drive if you can get the flow of this historical track)

See you guys next week.
