So nice of you to take the time and effort to put a new series together Tony ..... much appreciated  :thumbup2:

Personally I much prefer the small cars in P&G, but what the heck ...... I'll just have to learn how to drive these US tanks  ;D

How do we know which car we are allowed to drive?

How about where it says Cars allowed?  ;) (There are no restrictions in this first race of the series)

Tony, I'm a little thick-headed, so I need to get clear on the car options for the first race.

We need to pick one these 2 cars BEFORE the race right ?

If more than 9 people choose the same car, will it be first come first serve ?

No, nothing that complicated. ;)

Pick whichever of the two cars you want. You don't have to tell anyone, before the race, which car your driving.

However there will be 18 races comprising this series and for nine of those you must take a Falcon therefore for the other nine you will have to take the Mustang.

I will record after every race who took what and record it so drivers can see how many drives they have left in what car at any time during the series.

Trust me, it was an error. All the cars in this series come from Group 5 and are paired to be a decent match.

okay, no probs, was more worried i'd wasted an hour testing it but my setups worked for the others with some minor tweakage.

Just ran some laps in the other two stangs available.

1:18.5 in the NKT (so its quicker than the bscc gr 5 car!)
1:19.2 in the Gr2 stangs (guess cos its a couple of years older than the NKT and uses old Firestone tyres, not Dunlops).

But i am not much cop in these US muscle cars so sure others will improve on those times.
You guys wait until you try to brake on the back straight for the uphill right hander...you have to send a telegram your on your way, jeesh i was standing on my flipping pedals from a long way back !!

Did i read right that we 'have' to take the Falcon for at least 9 races?! :o I've never driven it as i dont like it! Should be parked outside drive in movies, not on a racetrack!

Hmmmh - 1.19.353 so far in the Falcon Weslake Heads, but what a narrow track.
Difficult to push these tanks around the corners. ???

1:17.9 in NTK and 1:18.2 in the '68 Falcon Sprint so far with race fuel.
The Falc seems to brake a bit better, and turns in easier for me, but the
NTK has a couple of mph more on the back straight.

Yes only the Sprint for this first race. More choices are available after Round 1, depending on your league position.

Sh.. - my bad - so I have to wait al least after this race until I can use it cause then I'll be within final third of league table  ;D
Sorry for inconveniences caused.

With a much better setup  ;)  my best so far is 1:20.08 in the Falcon and something about 1:21... in
the Mustang.
I think I'll take the Falcon tomorrow, cause it seems to have a better/easier handling and better brakes.

Could be a close one at the end of the pack  ;D

just done my first laps ever in a Falcon  :o ..not bad after about 4 years of P&G ! :P

1:17.7 with half hour race fuel onboard. Brakes are better than the stangs though it still handles like a barge. No good for my bad neck trying to wrestle these lumbering beasts about. :'(

Just managed to sneak an hour testing these cars and they are even worse than I remember  ::)

No ethusiasm here for this series I'm afraid, despite a great selection of tracks. Unless of course V3 comes out and they manage to produce more believable physics. In the meantime I'll be giving it a miss  :(

and they manage to produce more believable physics.

A friend of mine owned a street version Mustang 321 from 71, and believe me, it handled like sh..

Poor steering, poor braking, poor balance, and a poor mans substitute for Alfa Romeo. So maybe the physics aren't that far off after all  ;)

He would kill me, if he heard me saying that  :gun_bandana: but Alfa Romeo was a pretty exclusive car, before FIAT took over.

Hope you change your decision GT, the more the merrier.

Stig

Connection lost after 2 laps, but I was experiencing some troubles even during the practice. At the start I had a couple of freeze screen and I hopeful avoided Clive's car. After that all the other cars disappeared. Don't know what was going on with my connection. Sorry if I damaged someone :(

Hope to be luckier for the next. Cu :)

LOL .... thought the race was 42 laps long, that was my reason for picking the Falcon ....  :wetfish:

Probably wouldn't have changed anything though, I must say I had a very boring race once Mark has passed me on lap 3 or 4.

I was never near anybody for the rest of the race :'(  I hope more racers will join next race  ;D

Congrats to the podium

Due to the narrowness of the track I had to wait for ol' Mr Jonzo to awaken before I could get going  ;)

Then I must of gone off somewhere because the next thing I remember was MJ warping badly in front of me. Some laps on and Manteos is sideways across the track. I go towards his rear as I figure he's going to move forward. BAM, he didn't. Read his report above and it seems he disco'ed.

Then I remember lap after lap following Alex with Eifel someway behind me. My front left was bright red on xd and my Falcon was getting slower and slower. Alex sped of and Eifel caught me. Short battle and I succumbed and settled back to finish.

Nice race but these cars on a shortish circuit can be a challenge. Now we have some great circuits upcoming so we should be able to open these beasts up a bit.

Congrats John (again)

EDIT: I really do need to watch the replay  ::)

Post by: Mark J on January 05, 2012, 10:43:57 PM +0000
odd my car was warping but i did see some 'game syncing' messages come up in first few laps. My connection is usually rock solid but we had trees and power lines down last night in the winds, and no power for 8+ hours, so that probably had a knock on effect. Its windy up here in these hills !  :P

Like this track, but these lumbering beasts were hard work on it, particularly for braking at the end of the back straight. I was starting to brake almost half way down it !

Had a good early chase with Matt and Hotkeys, then a few laps chasing HK on his own, but i did smack his rear end when he had a bit of a coming together with Matt at the end of that straight, so sorry for that. Nearly hit him even harder the following lap but i threw myself onto the grass to avoid contact! Then HK fell off next lap and i squeezed past and pulled out a gap to have a lonely rest of race finishing about 40+ secs ahead of rest behind. Finished 4th, so not bad  :)

Wheres all the regular P&G'ers gone? No Bill, Ade, Pribeiro etc   ??? It was lonely out there !  :'(

No probs Mate. I think my race was ruined when my garage gave me the wrong front tyres  ;)

Was having a great time chasing Clive until I put a rear left onto the kerb going onto the back straight
took an age of ice dancing to get back on the track, after that fell off a bit a couple of times
but managed to stay ahead of MJ to the end. I took the option tyres, not sure whether they were harder
or not, ended the race with about 1/4 left on the front left.

I must confess that I'm not a fan of the muscle cars in P&G (or GTL for that matter). I've tried the Mustangs a few times before, but always was always left frustrated at their lack of ability to do those simple things like 'go round corners' and 'slow down' ;D

Quite a bit of setup work later and it's not too bad once you get used to it. Still a lot of work required to wrestle it round the track in a reasonable time though.

Very respectable pace from Clive in second & grats also to Matt for the podium :thumbup1:. Shame about Manteos though :(

See you next week in something a bit more civilised!

Unofficial LapChart (http://www.justanotherpage.nl/Srou/PnG/WesJan12/)

Had a blinding start from last place, somehow my fellow competitors were fallen asleep  ;)
After some warping Mustangs I had a solid fight with Tony. Thought Mr. T. would catch me because I had serious trouble getting the Falcon whale tanker turned in. Left front was overheating badly.
Tony seemed to overcooked it somewhere and lost connection. Then it was all about bringing the lightfooted Falcon home...

Happy with 6Th spot. Better than I hoped for after qually  ;D

Congrats to podium and to my teammate for ploughing on a couple of laps down. The Gilles Villeneuve prize is yours (accompanied with some Hoegaarden Witbier).

Interesting find Tony.

Many thanks.

My race was straight forward but I was by no means boring.  I made a good start and followed John through T1 with Manteos behind me.  I had established in testing that getting through T2 without using the grass on the outside was the key to a decent lap so perhaps I surprised Manteos by my braking point.  As it was I only just stayed on the tarmac and thankfully Manteos missed me.

John was quick through T2 and Valley(T3) so had broken the tow by the time that we hit the straight.  I then spent the rest of the race trying to stay within striking distance in the hope that he would make a mistake, but he didn't.

Matt was keeping me honest for almost half distance but then had an off that cost him about twenty seconds gave rise to a big sigh of relief.

I had a couple of minor grass/sandy moments one of which was on the last lap when I was busy braking at the end of the straight, trying to keep the rear wheels behind the front ones when a little chequered flag appeared on the XD board.  Frightened me to death!  I was so intent on fighting the Mustang that I hadn't noticed the stage of the race, although the state of my front left tyre was a give away.  Must have been all of a couple of red pixels left on the wear gauge!

Congrats to John and hard luck to Manteos on his connection problems.  Hard luck to Stig, who apparently fuelled for another six laps and was even more surprised than I was when the end of the race was announced.  I believe that he had the first Falcon across the line.

See you next week but not too keen on the weather blighted GB series.  ;D

PS  Many thanks to the people being lapped for letting me through whilst chasing John for all I was worth.  Much appreciated.

PPS  Thanks for the Lap Chart Alex.

That was a nice and more constant race for me although it was a steady battle against my own tank.
Finally I was able to find smooth lines through the Hairpin and the Carousel but the Valley Corner was
still a delicate thing.

Had a nice battle with Tony over some laps - didn't realize that he was driving a wounded car.
He had a better line through the Valley Corner but a worse one through the Hairpin and the Carousel,
maybe caused by his damages.

Thanks again Tony for your recommendations concerning setup for these tanks.

Grats to the podium and to Alex for winning the "Gentlemen Driver's Class"

Looking forward to more fun throughout the year!
