Welcome to the new drivers, nice to see an almost 20 grid again.
Hatts off to Henry, was the only
crazy one driving a no-turbo car on a track that power is need.
Race was fantastic and with high levels of adrenaline.
During qualifying, I realized that I was off pace to sqter (outstanding pace) and to the top 3 cars.
There was when I began to imagine a crazy strategy (well, I made a phone call to Ross Brawn for help).
A good start and there we go with me smelling the top 3 drivers. Which was nice, considering my 7th start
position. With full fuel, I was amazed that during first laps I could stay with them and even if I was tempted with the situation, I remembered the strategy and had calm down to save my tires, first stint was made always under the limits and it paid off, I have done 25 laps with the same tires, only losing at the last 3-4 laps, 1 to 2 seconds a lap for my usual times. When I went to pits, changed the tires
and add fuel for only 22 laps, which made me gain a precious time for mr_oily that was in front of me at least 6 seconds before our stop. When I was back on track, mr_oily was right behind me (1 second I believe).
Had to have extra care as my tires and brakes were cold, but everything went well and I managed to set a safe gap to mr_oily, I guess allowed by him tho. Now, where is sqter?
Always with a gap of around 20 seconds I was happy with my 2nd place, however at lap 40? Not sure.
I saw sqter in the pits and I was dazzled, but....a few seconds after consulting the HUD, I realized I hadn't fuel enough to finish race...
this time was me who had 20 seconds of advantage to sqter,
so, last 4 laps were saving fuel, changing gears between 6000 and 6500 RPM and doing a couple of bends with a higher gear (by this time I had my two cats near me following the race with full atention)
, allowed me to finish with a display of 1 lap remaining of fuel.
Just for curiosity, I spent 45 laps doing conrners at 200 Km/h and straights at 300 Km/h and when I went to pits, I spun at 50 Km/h...
Well done to podium and to all that managed to complete the race.
Cheers
