Driven these way back when, so had a setup knocking around to work with thankfully. Not done this version of Monza before though, and like Geoff found the incessant chicanery a bit of a pest. Unlike Geoffers however, I don't get on with FWD very well, so having front row pace in quali was a surprise, last gasp taking of pole even more so. Monza and Imola are normally bogey tracks for me in all honesty....
Race was OK, I had qualified on race fuel, so knew I could be quite quick from the start, but didn't know what the car would do when light and worn tires. Made a decent jump off the line for a change, and kept first place from Dimitar initially, then Geoffers. Just crept away a touch as the guys behind were arguing over 2nd, 3rd and 4th for a few laps before it settled down. As Geoffers said, as the race went on, we both kept making little errors, mostly on the same laps, so the gap I had pulled remained for the most part. But it was all a little bit inconsistent, and just felt a bit weird to be honest. Watching the replay from the server it does show some of the strange stuff I could feel going on. In Parabolica for instance, just about every lap sees me lay big dark lines, but not straight around, they have a big jump in the curve. That adds to the feel I had of the throttle feeling like an On/Off switch at that point around the track, it was all or nothing. Added to which, my car is quite jumpy for all of the replay, I am wondering if I had some kind of internet issue going on that was affecting the communication to the game in some way.
It was getting harder to keep the pace towards the end of the race, tire wear I am guessing, but I knew I had enough of a gap once we were down to around 4 laps left if I kept it on the island as Geoff had also just lost a little pace and was not easily closing in. Was very surprised and relieved to take the flag ahead of Mr. FWD......
Grats to all, and I agree this could be a very interesting series, certainly the cars are more forgiving than the R5 Turbos....Hopefully that means the field will remain large and tightly packed.
