Title: UKGPL Season 38 (Spring 2021) 1955 Grand Prix - Privateers -Buenos Aires - Jun 6 Post by: Phil Thornton on June 04, 2021, 07:55:01 PM +0100 Season 38 – 1955 Grand Prix – Round 10 – Privateers - Buenos Aires
This race announcement is for the PRIVATEERS. The tenth and final race in the 1955 Grand Prix series finds us in Argentina. Built in 1952 on swampland just outside Buenos Aires, the circuit featured a white archway dedicated to the memory of Admiral William Brown. The track featured four different configurations for Grand Prix racing. From 1953 to 1960, the Argentine Grand Prix was held on the "No. 2" layout, clockwise for the all these years except 1954, when it was run counterclockwise. The 1955 Argentine Grands Prix was one of the hottest races on record, at 40C (104F) with track temperatures reaching 51C (122F). Fangio, driving for Mercedes, was the only driver to complete the 96 laps (taking three hours) without handing his car over to another driver. One of his legs was badly burned by a chassis tube heated by the exhaust, an injury that forced a three-month recovery. Ferrari drivers Nino Farina and Maurice Trintignant finished both second and third in two three-way shared drives with José Froilán González and Umberto Maglioli respectively.
Please restrict chat to emergency messages only including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line. Driver lists and division specific rules can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=1272&theme=6). Available Tokens: Note: These are the tokens available to each driver before the 10 tokens are added for making the race start.

So you can drive any car but I wouldn't recommend the Mercedes-Benz W196 SL, it is too heavy for this track.

Good luck all. Title: Re: UKGPL Season 38 (Spring 2021) 1955 Grand Prix - Privateers -Buenos Aires - Jun 6 Post by: JPettet on June 06, 2021, 09:49:01 PM +0100 An early retirement for me, but great fun all round, I hope to join in next season with some slightly less challenging cars.
BTW I participated under the Profile name Jordan Pettet55, I will get round to changing my name on here too. Despite the hardships the 55 season is one of my preferred.Thank you for the organisation, now i wait the next season hoping it doesn't start before september.Driving in the hot season is not the best,i finish the races all wet. P.S Hope to race on track that are not too stressful for the brake(like Roy He.) I am 4, then 5, but after a few cars eliminated, I am back in 4th place but far! At 3 laps from the end I was able to benefit from an unexpected engine failure. Mercedes are not stronger than Italians ... :D Can't wait for the next season ;) Title: Re: UKGPL Season 38 (Spring 2021) 1955 Grand Prix - Privateers -Buenos Aires - Jun 6 Post by: Leo Menegucci on June 07, 2021, 12:40:45 PM +0100 Nice to end my season as it started, with a win like back at Bahamas.
But it was a big learning curve, coming back to simracing after some 10 years and driving these 55's cars, most diferent from any other mod. Many mistakes and a little bad luck was part of it. That's racing and I enjoyed it al the way. I'm ready for next season :thumbup1: I feel like sharing some technique I found with this cars about the most controvertial thing about it and might have pushed some guys from racing them, the brake fade. Don't slam the brakes! Unless for that single qualifying lap or that pass atempt, avoid the hard braking every time as we are used with the other mods. Hard braking every time left me with no brakes at all, huge braking distances and inconsistent braking points. It worked for me and by gently braking in race conditions, in fact my braking distances are almost the same as with fresh brakes, and there is the consistency every lap. Have fun! At the end of lap 10 i was third, i had a challenging but clean fight with Darwin ( bernie??) and Dauger's Maserati. However Francesco was way ahead and we had the same pace, Leo ( congrats!!) was out of reach as he was constantly 1 sec faster, so i was just waiting for the end of the race but three laps from the checkered flag i saw a white flag and slow mercedes ahead, so i finished 2nd. This track proved to be pretty difficult for brake management and also my rear tyres were boiling ( 90deg and more after 4 laps during practice and massive oversteer) , constantly stressed by the power slides at the exit of T1,2 and 3 . So for the race i had chosen a less extreme diff setting but i lost all the speed in T1 and 2 with the car really nose heavy.
I'm really happy for being third in my first GPL championship and racing with fast and gentleman drivers has been a pleasure for me. Congratulations to Rainier for the championship and to Leo for the second place, really deserved. Can't wait for the new season, see you soon!
