All members welcome. Grid/server capacity: 25 Practice: ~19:10 (60 mins) Race 1 Qualifying: 20:10 (20 mins) Race 1: 20:30 14 laps~20mins, then following shortly afterwards with reverse grid Race 2: 14 laps~20mins Track: Castle Combe Download this
Cars allowed: Caterham CSR200 Time of Day Setting: 14:00 Weather: DRY Start: STANDING Tyre wear: Normal Fuel consumption: Normal
Server: UKRACE07 CRC Password: see above
Notes: (1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage. (2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
Special Notes: The grid procedure for Race 07 events is slightly different from GTL/GTR2. Upon joining the grid, you won't be able to rev your engine until all drivers are present on the grid. Do not attempt to esc back to garage or you will be DQ'd.

Oh dear. I was so so so looking forward to this one, but having just downloaded the version of the track I'm disappointed to find it is shockingly poor. It is absolutely nothing like Castle Combe and even doesn't include the 2 esses / chicanes that have been in place for donkeys! About the only thing that bears any resemblance is Avon Bridge and even that's the wrong colour! The GTR2 version is light years apart from this, and I'm told that isn't particularly accurate (although to me it looks very close). I admit to being a bit of an expert on this place as I marshal there, but even if I had never been before I think I'd have known.

I know what you mean Steve. AFAIK there isn't a current version of Combe for R07, but at least there won't be those pesky chicanes with their race ending tyres to worry about. I've not seen the back section, but the run down to Camp seems realistic, although Camp itself seems a little fast. The track does have the "bump" before Quarry, which is bound to catch some drivers out if they go in too hot, as it does IRL. For those not in the know, it's best to brake lightly before the bump unless you enjoy picking rubber out of your teeth My test races with the AI were good fun, so I'm hopeful these rounds will live up to the previous races.

I've heard it said 'if you go in to Quarry under full control, you're not going fast enough'

Will the ai be joining us for this one GT? Having heard they're good, I'm quite looking forward to seeing them.

Will the ai be joining us for this one GT? Having heard they're good, I'm quite looking forward to seeing them. We had a few technical problems with the ai at Snetterton (drivers not able to join) which meant they've been left out so far this series. I'll put them up on the practice server; if they behave themselves and no-one has any problems/objections, I don't see why they can't join us. I'll speed them up a little though because they were getting in the way of the leaders when they ran in our test race.

After trying to install Race 07 on my Windows 7 drive and trying to sort out problem by running XP drive version and seeing how to change the wheel control setting, that went titsup as well. (probably one of Microsoft's fixes screwed it.) Been trying to sort out for a while including reinstalling without success. Wasted too much time already today and yesterday so leaving it for now and sorting out Mondays GTL details.
Problem is, with GTR EVO, when I try and redesignate any G25 wheel paddles/buttons I no longer get the screen that allows you to operate the new control I want to use.
The standard EVO designations for G25 with paddles is OK but is not as I've setup the G25 and been using for years on GTL etc. Change up/down is reversed and many of the buttons are different.
Any ideas please.

Sorted or at least I am if you've got 4 AI drivers on the server.
Had a Eureka moment this afternoon whilst I was in the conservatory lying enjoying the sun. Remembered when I set the Win 7 installation setup the Anti-Ailasing (?) setting was disabled and I without thinking set it at level 4 as is my want.
Set it to disabled and was immediately able to reconfigure my wheel. Phew.

Crikey this is a rather fast track, I've never been, or simmed it, so its sad to hear its not all that accurate but at least its exciting. Its so fast, its makes me wonder what R2 will be like. Be fun to find out I had a quick go and thought the AI on server were rather more competitive than last time we tried them. They were doing late 02's which makes them competitive I think.

I wouldn't dream of contradicting Steve but..............it is the circuit with the chicanes removed which is a shame but most of the remaining turns, the ones at the four corners of the track seem fairly realistic to me.

I think the track is very much like the GTR2 version... how much more of a yard stick to reality do you need? Another stonking track for this car, did 15-20 laps with Ginsters tonight. Hit a mid-02 with race fuel, which was just over half a sec slower than him... hope that's good enough for front/second row tomorrow p.s. Be warned, I am officially staring the "Save our Caterham for season R4 too!" campaign right here.

I watched a boat load of Castle Combe trackday crash videos on you tube last night. Why do so many people crash at quarry?

Why do so many people crash at quarry?
It's an interesting corner. In my Impreza (not a race car) I was getting close to an indicated 130mph before Avonrise and Quarry. The track goes left over a couple or rises in the track where the car goes light as it comes off them all this in the Quarry braking zone. If you do a track day and get a briefing at Combe they tell you to brake either side of the rises for stability. For me Tower is a much scarier corner. Again well over the 100 in a road car before downhill braking, the camber is then adverse throwing the car out towards the edge of track where there is very little run off. I am but an amateur but a friend who used to race Formula V reckoned Quarry was one of the hardest corners on the UK club scene to get right.

Not ashamed to admit that I bottled out of a track day here earlier this year. Quarry scares me in simworld let alone IRL. p.s. Be warned, I am officially staring the "Save our Caterham for season R4 too!" campaign right here. I'm all for going with the flow.....if there's enough support for it Legzy, we could always run something alternate weeks to the successful mod in this poll.... https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=8509.0;viewResultsLet's have some ideas though

Not really had sufficient practice for this track. In the race I went into that tricky chicane behind an AI who braked very early causing me to lockup and slide into the back of him screwing up my suspension. Decided an early exit.
