Well that was a rather manic sunday evening drive.
First off apologies to FMG, I think I might have unintentionally held you up in qually while I was warming my tyres, before diving out of the way at pilgrims drop
The race, oh boy. Start was ok, I drove a sensible first lap after the green flag, watching FMG in the mirror and going to a defensive line in a couple of turns where he looked like he might pounce, and then slowly started to ease a gap. Then OMG, complete brain failure and spun my self into the gravel at Stirlings, What a plum! I had to wait for the whole field to pass before it was safe to rejoin the track, so 1st to last in 1 corner.
Annoyed, it was time to try and undo as much damage as possible, so I set off after the pack. Getting back to 5th wasn't too hard, although its never easy passing identical cars cleanly, but then it got harder, the top 4 were circulating at a fast pace in a group and I had to pick them off 1 at a time, and each time I got past one I lost contact with the few in front and had to close it down again. FMG was probably the hardest (and most fun), huge respect to you sir, half a lap side by side through the turns is just
, knowing you wont give up but at the same time I can trust you to leave just enough room that we don't have a problem
Simon was next, and again it wasn't easy, you were running a fast pace all night and finding that gap to get by took some work. Hawthorns was my lucky corner for overtakes though
Now there was 6(ish) minutes to go and only NFSW in front by a couple of seconds or so. I could close the gap but my rear tyres were starting to complain and every time I got closer I would then undo it by having a slide and loosing a bit again, so in the end I came home second only just behind. I'll take that as an OK return on a big error, and much fun was had in making it happen
Vallelunga next eh, should be interesting with those technical corners...
