Moderator's Report

PRibeiro joined in a scoring car despite being a Masters driver. The Masters should take non-scoring (G2 or GT3) cars so that they don't have any direct effect on the Clubmen championship.

As a one off, his car has been classified in G2. In future, we will probably exclude such drivers from the results.

A few reserve drivers joined before the start of Practice 2; all drivers are reminded that they should join in the correct session.

Server replay time: 1312s

Backo is challenging Kerr for the lead as they race down the Flight Straight. Popabawa and Munkez are ahead and about to be lapped, and Backo is on the left and about to suddenly run out of road as he uses the 550's huge straightline speed advantage to get alongside Kerr, who misinterprets Popabawa's slight course correction as he tucks back over to the left ready for T2, and Brian suddenly moves left as he thinks he is about to run into the back of the Vertigo.

Unfortunately, Backo is right there and has to run off the circuit to avoid a big accident, losing 7 spots in the process (and a further place waiting to rejoin safely).

I've no reason to believe that this was anything other than a racing incident, although Backo put himself into a position with no Plan B, and Kerr should really have been aware of which side Backo was coming down and gone right and not left.

  • BACKOadvice — always have a Plan B
  • Kerr (Brian Kerr)advice — maintain better situational awareness

Server replay time: 2239s

Jure is about to lap Anthony's M3 as they exit Startkurven. Ant hesitates for a moment about which way to go, then moves back to the left, but Jure has started to commit to the left also. Anthony then lifts off the throttle before Jure has a chance to duck right and the result is inevitably an accident.

Server replay time: 3126s

CE is chasing PaulW for 8th as he comes up to lap Popabawa. CE passes under braking for T2 but runs just a fraction too deep into the corner and drops a wheel off onto the dirt, sliding back on and collecting Pops. CE then does a good job rejoining safely on the inside of Laktar without impeding Pops any further.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 4075s

Jure, who is being chased by Picnic and is chasing Dirk, catches Eddie Meyer and Anthony Humphreys as they arrive at T4. The faster car passes Eddie on the brakes but catches Anthony unawares and there is some relatively mild side contact mid-corner.

Right.

Had a funny race yesterday night, enjoyed it thoroughly, like always. Smiley

As most of us I've managed to ignore Q1 and had to go berserk in wet (damp) session. Semi successfully, ended up in P6, but no matter, was planning for 100L medium medium first stint with projected 35 laps and a short 19 lap 2nd stint sprint (which would also include 35+ second pitstop) so I wasn't really bothered by 5 drivers in front of me, math is math and math stated I'll come out of the pits in P1.

It worked... almost. Roll Eyes Grin  Had to wait for aero damage to be fixed, lost 15 secs or so since pit lasted 51.6 instead of 35 or so seconds and voila, came out in 3rd/4th, P2,P3 and P4 were all crowded in few secs. Some cool racing followed, we swapped places like junk bonds, all of us on tyres that were not up to working temperature and it showed, our collective thoughts must have been "I hate understeer" (resistance if futile TM). Grin

If only I knew that the blue viper which came out of pits is the future leader, insertcursewordhere. That was some 5-6 laps prior to my pits, insertanotherone and I let Mark by being overly polite. Again Cheesy. Lost the race for mere second in the end. Live and learn, I ain't giving u guys squat anymore, insertthirduglyword. Grin

Pitty. Aero damage courtesy of two backmarkers going offline under power and lifting off just as I was trying to pass them. Same old story all over again, but hey, that's racing. (but still... don't. stay on line, be predictable, felt sorry for few of the backmarkers going OFF TRACK to let us by. Just stay put and we'll do the rest, promise. Wink ).

BTW, I wonder what a vertigo driver thought when Mark (I think) and myself blasted by on the straight, vertigo being the one in the middle, awesome replay, I'm sure (hint for video directors out there). Wink Very similar to that Mika-Schumi thingy at Spa few years back. Cool stuff.  Cool

Can't wait for mighty Silverstone.

edit: Jonzo, sorry for the bump before race start (smashed into you while being on pit-limiter). Admins, we NEED to get on pit limiter sooner, thought we're suppose to engage it 2 (two) corners before start/finish straight. Tends not to happen that way, this yo-yo effect is way to dangerous...

Well I had a bit of a nightmare GT debut.

Qualifying went ok as I got a decent lap in the first session to put me second.

At the start of the race Brian, Backo and myself were all very close on pace and I had a couple of half hearted attempts when Brian made mistakes before Backo breezed past down the straight in the Fezza.

A few laps latter I managed to tap Backo round at the final turn, i did not think I was that close but after I waited I was in seventh and could not pass Jure in front. Managed to leave my paint on the back of his car as well, not sure what happened but I think there was a stationary car on the inside of turn 6 and as we were lapping some GT2/GTC cars everyone went everywhere and I just tapped him thankfully he kept it all together.

Finally manage to start clearing cars as peoples tyres got a bit older and worked my way all the way back up to third on Brian's tail before the stops.

I had enough fuel for two more laps so decided that if Brian pitted I would not and if he didn't I would. He went in so I put in a quick in lap and into the pits I went. I had long fuelled so was confident I could get out ahead. Into my pit stool no pit board nothing they just stood there. Tried loads of things and they would just not do anything. Finally they started after I had tried reversing and going back in for the nth time. Then during the stop they would start filling and then say turn the engine off stop for a few secs and then start again then stop again. No idea what was going on but all in all it lost me a lap.

After that I just pushed and drove round on my own really. Managed to get back up to 6th with CJ and Picnics problems but a bit gutted I had the pace for a podium here at least on what should really be a lambo track.

Still on to Silverstone and try to make a better job for it. Sorry to both the racing 24/7 cars for leaving my paint on there great looking cars especially Backo in the early stages. Thanks to all the GTC/GT2 cars for holding there line and making passing easy all in all it was good fun, and I for one enjoyed the wet Q2 great addition to the immersion factor

I hope it rains for the Masters event next week... I'd like to see my one and only lap record last longer than a week! Tongue

I didn't realise that PRibiero was in a scoring car but officially in the Masters, will that mean his result doesn't count?

Ditto, can't see my race lap record lasting long!

Think that was me .... but then there were so many GT's belting past on the straight it's all blended into one.

Will have a look at the replay this evening, as there were certainly a few "highlight reel" moments in that race.

I remember that - I think I mentioned on TeamSpeak too I was so surprised. Cheesy

What happened there??
Dave, went into pits after about 45 mins, loaded fuel, changed tyres but was never given the go ahead to leave!?
Sat there, pushing keys but no luck!?
Eventually hit escape as someone else was queuing behind!?

Did I go to the wrong garage or something!?

If they put fuel and tyres on you must've been in the right garage. TBH I've no idea! Did you turn the ignition back on and refire the engine or have you not got that under your control?

ps. I can't solve every problem or mystery personally. Tongue

Come on Dave, you've always managed in the past  Grin

I to had the pit crew telling me to kill the engine, so I had to turn ignition, on and off again before they would refuel me  Undecided

As for the ISDN thing I think it's more complex than simply making life easier for the server. All members using the same lowest common denominator seems to provide a smoother, more reliable connection all round.

The server results file was a mess last night, at least 2 drivers were in the results file at least 5 times with a couple more having duplicates.

In the mods group we agreed the weather file used would be included in the replay/results zip. Guess what I forgot last night. The replay has now been updated now to include the weather file but in case you don't want to downlaod the whole thing again the file can be found here

I won't join any Clubmen endurance race anymore untill the amount of drivers get lower than the max, so I don't use somebody else's spot who deserves it more.

Had an enjoyable race as the only G3 entrant as I was right in the middle of the GTC battle. Got caught out by the qually thing (hadn't twigged that Q1 would count) but was fairly happy with my starting position. I lost a place on my cold hard tyres on the first full lap, but being on full fuel I was playing the long game so no great problem. Piited a bit late and then realised that I'd forgotten to sort out the fuelling strategy, so the daft pit crew gave me another 20 laps of unneeded fuel for good measure. After the stops I was in 16th, with teamie Ginsters some way up the road but falling back as a result of not changing tyres at the stop. I caught him with about 10 mins to go, thought briefly about sitting behind and then decided to pass anyway since it wouldn't cost him points. A comedy moment with Gerald and a GT in the carousel made things interesting but I kept the place and finished 14th.

Like others I had the odd GT driver being a bit too ambitious when lapping. Late dives down the inside really invite contact (which happened in one case), but most were polite though and waited for the straights.

I came to wait in the lobby and in Q1 it was 24/26. I figured it might be better to let a late reserve join instead of me. Just wait two more races, Rusky, you know the drill.  Grin
I think it's a right thing to do to wait a few races for numbers to drop before Masters start to join in regularly. After all, it is Clubmen race, Masters are guests only.

I agree. I did look at joining but when I saw nearly full server I thought it best to not join in case of discos for full-time or even part time Clubmen so I didn't take their spot.

Did you do any pitstop practice before hand? I find things run so much smoother when my brain is programmed with the right script.
