The link is incomplete. I'm sure Matt will attend to this when he gets a chance.

Chortle.
For this one more likely something else will be added if required, but I am "fairly" confident that the Porch is not the fastest car here for everyone.

another track im not sure ive ever raced though sure some smart alec will be along to point out that i did 4 years ago or somefink Pretty sure the Alfas and maybe 2.6Capri will be kings of the hill here, though the twisties may also suit a well piloted lightweight 911 Looked it up on wiki, interesting history...best be aware of virtual flying rocks on the night! The Charade Circuit (also known as Circuit Louis Rosier and Circuit Clermont-Ferrand) is a motorsport race track in the Auvergne mountains in France near Clermont-Ferrand, the home of Michelin and Patrick Depailler. Built in 1958 around the sides of an extinct volcano, the originally 8.055 km (5.005-mi) long Charade was described as an even twistier and faster version of the Nürburgring. Some drivers like Jochen Rindt in the 1969 French Grand Prix complained of motion sickness, and wore open face helmets, just in case. But 1970 was no better- Rindt was hit in the face by a rock, something that the circuit was usually littered with, and often caused punctures on the track. The French Grand Prix motorcycle racing events were held at Charade from 1959 to 1967, and 1972 to 1974. In 1964, the VI Trophée d'Auvergne Formula 2 race podium was a sign of things to come: Denny Hulme, Jackie Stewart and Jochen Rindt showed their skill before the track hosted the 1965 French Grand Prix. In 1966, John Frankenheimer made the film Grand Prix in front of 3000 locals who posed as race spectators watching actors like Yves Montand and Françoise Hardy. In total four Formula One French Grands Prix were held at Charade: 1965, 1969, 1970 and 1972. Due to drivers cutting corners, a stone thrown from Emerson Fittipaldi's Lotus hit Helmut Marko in the eye during the 1972 French Grand Prix, ending his F1 career, as well as the one of the circuit. The stones also had caused ten deflated tyres, but luckily no big crashes. The French Grand Prix moved back to the new Paul Ricard Circuit, where the French Grand Prix was held in 1971. Formula 3, sports car racing, and touring car racing as when as Rallying and hillclimbing continued there until the 1980s when the original layout was criticized. Due to the layout on the side of a mountain it was not possible to build larger runoff areas, a similar problem as at the old Nürburgring. In 1980, three marshals were killed at a touring car race,[1] and in 1984 the drivers protested. The last race on 8 km track was held on September 18, 1988. A 3.86 km (2.4-mi) abbreviated version of the circuit is still in operation, hosting races like Formula Three.Looks a pretty cool track from the air:- https://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Clermont-Ferrand,+France&ie=UTF8&om=1&z=16&ll=45.741667,3.032098&spn=0.006814,0.021629&t=k&iwloc=addr

My perception is that we have run here lots of times, but the season history says no. It is one of my fave tracks, which usually produces some tight close racing. I "believe" from tests done in secret locations in the Midlands, the older Alfa 2.0 is the easiest car to be fastest in, the Pork is not far behind in the hands of a good Beetle herder. The Squashcourts are quick but need some setup and careful driving, the 2600 Capri suffers here from understeering, but could be made to work.

Well there are a cart load of PnG lap records at the top of this page! Even Legzy has got one but that must surely be a mistake. I can clearly remember being punted off whilst trying to wrestle a Cobra through the tight wiggles towards the end of the lap. BTW well done to Legzy and Team Viagra on their points haul at Sebring.

It has been a long time since I visited this site, and I was intending to join you guys in the P&G3 races. However, I have just noticed that this race starts at 20:45 GMT. That is far too late for me, so I will have to wait and see if there are any earlier races in the future.

My goodness, it's been a while since I was last at this track & I somehow managed a rare pole position! I'll settle for being ahead of Clive this time (& hopefully MJ will pull his finger out one day soon )

That's a shame Mogget. The races are not usually very long. Legzy can have his Horlicks and get his jimjams on by 9:30; ready for nurse to put him to bed! PS 2:12.something any good?

did a few recce laps earlier. Nice track, feels like a special tarmac rally stage in monte carlo or a hillclimb event! Took the 911 2.5ST natch feels lovely to drive around here swinging through the esses. Though it appears im already 2 secs slower than Clive 2:14 with 40mins race fuel so far, but early days, i was learning the track really.

@mogget. Would be great to have you run here. We always start all our different series at 20:40 ish the races are mostly planned for around 40 mins and finish 21:30 ish, can get late for Eastern Euros but mostly works well for Brits. I think Cumbria is GMT BST Best times I have been offered so far: Capri 2600 '71 2:11.64 Alfa 2000 GTAm '71 2:12.24 Porsche 2.5ST 2:12.45 Escort TC (217bhp) 2:12.93 Alfa 2000 GTAm '72 2:13.33 Alfa GTA Vol. 2:14.24 Alfa 1750 GTAm 2:14.39 Every time I do some laps I get faster, and faster in a different car... The '71 Alfa 2.0 was fastest but now the Escort is fastest for me: Escort-TC (16v) 2:13.5 911 2.5 2:14.5 Alfa VOlumetrico 2:14.5 Capri 2600 2:14.5 Alfa 2,0 '71 2:14.7
