Title: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1966 F1 - Spa - Jul 31 Post by: Rainier on July 28, 2018, 08:08:37 PM +0100 Season 33 Historic Trophy - Round 6– Spa 67 New
The sixth race in the 1966 Grand Prix series takes us to Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. Designed in 1920 the original triangle-shaped course used public roads between the Belgian towns of Francorchamps, Malmedy, and Stavelot. The track was intended to have hosted its inaugural race in August 1921, however the first car race was held at the circuit in 1922. Spa was the fastest road circuit in Europe at the time, and it had a nasty reputation for being dangerous and very fast- it was a circuit known to be one for the brave, and most drivers were frightened of it. The old Spa circuit was unique in that speeds were consistently high with hardly any let-up at all for 3–4 minutes. This made it an extraordinarily difficult mental challenge (& ridiculously easy to crash). Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line. IP: 178.2.175.186
Drivers must complete 50% of each race to score. Only reported incidents will be moderated, there is no Red Zone. Handicapping and chassis allocation. This season the Historics will be using a token system which allows drivers to purchase any chassis of their choice, 2 litre or 3 litre, for a given number of tokens as published on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=640&theme=6). Drivers classed as Amateurs will be allocated an additional 10 tokens. The token allocation will not be managed in SRou this season so (unlike the 67F1 Works and 67F1 Privateer divisions) the tokens available to each driver will not appear in the championship table (when the mouse pointer is hovered over the driver's total). Rather, the available tokens will be published in the race announcement. See below. Available Tokens: Note: These are the tokens available to each driver before the 10 tokens are added for making the race start.

Title: Re: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1966 F1 - Spa - Jul 31 Post by: Billy Nobrakes on July 31, 2018, 09:59:23 PM +0100 Decided to take a cheap car as I have a habit of hitting the scenery at Spa. The BRM 3L is surprising nice to drive. Was expecting a reasonable points haul but suffered a screen freeze on lap 5. The only thing I hit was a car that was obviously recovering on lap 1. Looks like it was Bastian. I probably could have given a little more room when passing & no real bother as the car didn't take any damage.

Title: Re: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1966 F1 - Spa - Jul 31 Post by: EvilClive on July 31, 2018, 10:29:04 PM +0100 Arfx3 got to lap 10 I think, I was falling asleep around lap 12 and clouted the barriers in Eau Rouge and decided that Dean who was leading could have the track to himself. I was never going to catch him unless he made a fatal mistake. Dean went on to get to the flag all alone.
A race of attrition. :-\ Title: Re: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1966 F1 - Spa - Jul 31 Post by: DLogan on July 31, 2018, 10:30:54 PM +0100 I hope somebody is going to finish this race ::). I did, the worst-to-first bit again. Sorry to hear it was cnxn issues taking most people out. :( Title: Re: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1966 F1 - Spa - Jul 31 Post by: Phil Thornton on July 31, 2018, 10:31:30 PM +0100 Dean went on to get to the flag all alone. No David Rainier at the finish? I'm surprised, Dave is super consistent ;)Title: Re: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1966 F1 - Spa - Jul 31 Post by: Arf Arf Arf on July 31, 2018, 10:31:43 PM +0100 It's only Dean and Clive now - I was sooooooo bored by Lap 10/11 that I stopped caring, knowing I was on a guaranteed P3.
This track is a total farce though. I couldn't qualify because of the frame drop. Ended up starting the race with Detail about 25% of max, which I always run without much problem, and trackside and mirror detail decimated. It mean driving though a landscape of roofs with no walls. Why can't we just run original Spa, it doesn't have these issues.... Title: Re: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1966 F1 - Spa - Jul 31 Post by: Rainier on July 31, 2018, 10:47:47 PM +0100 Disconnected on lap 5
Title: Re: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1966 F1 - Spa - Jul 31 Post by: Cookie on July 31, 2018, 10:48:21 PM +0100 Seems we had this 4x disco Billy+David + Tristan+ Axel ...
Shame this was a perfect close fight with Tris ... Collin this track needs optimized GPU and CPU settings, your hardware should run this easily! Title: Re: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1966 F1 - Spa - Jul 31 Post by: Phil Thornton on July 31, 2018, 11:01:20 PM +0100 I've loaded the chassis the drivers used into the token calculator spreadsheet. For the next race the available tokens will be as declared in the table below (the table will also appear in the next race announcement). The calculated values are automated but selecting the cars is a manual process so please check your tokens to make sure I haven't made a silly error. There was no token overspend for this round so no one is disqualified.
Available Tokens: Note: These are the tokens available to each driver before the 10 tokens are added for making the race start.

Whilst Spa 67is a testimony to the track builders skill I do actually prefer the lay out of the corners in the original. It might also be that the fast guys like Axel go even faster on the new track.Title: Re: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1966 F1 - Spa - Jul 31 Post by: Cookie on August 01, 2018, 09:47:07 AM +0100 Spa67 was built to have a much more realistic track,
papy Spa is like a wide Autobahn in many sections :cursing: IMO this track needs a good setup, custom made for your driving style! And you must love this track... :punk: Title: Re: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1966 F1 - Spa - Jul 31 Post by: Arf Arf Arf on August 01, 2018, 10:46:21 AM +0100 I do prefer this layout, just not the hassle... Axel, what settings do I need to look at/change?
Title: Re: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1966 F1 - Spa - Jul 31 Post by: Cookie on August 01, 2018, 11:08:11 AM +0100 You have to manage the key corners like Eau Rouge without irritations of limits in the suspension.
And you need perfect gears here!!! So I have a raised setup pretty much asymetric but very save, a quali lap into Eau Rouge when I overshot I had no problem catching it save ;D my setup: https://www.sendspace.com/file/phcj94 PS Since I use a FOV of 56 - 60 I do see the track much more realistic and have made big steps in driving ;) Read here: http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=8944&st=30#entry88661 Title: Re: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1966 F1 - Spa - Jul 31 Post by: bagrupp on August 01, 2018, 09:12:00 PM +0100 Decided to take a cheap car as I have a habit of hitting the scenery at Spa. :hmmm: I only checked my own, btw. I always update the spreadsheet after each race and post the revised tokens in the race thread (i.e. see here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=15036.msg274215#msg274215)). The moderator creating the race post for the next round should use the post race token values when creating an announcement for the next race. Unfortunately that didn't happen in this case. Rest assured the post round 6 token summary (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=15051.msg274415#msg274415) is correct and should appear in the race announcement for round 7. Sorry for the confusion, thanks for spotting the error ;). |
