Title: UKGPL Season 23 (2012) GT Team Challenge - Surfers Paradise - Sep 23
Post by: EvilClive on September 20, 2012, 08:43:41 PM +0100
Welcome to the Southern Hemisphere in the GT Trophy for Season 23.  Surfers Paradise might prove to be a Porsche Paradise, with some twisty technical corners. The big cars will probably have the edge on the straight but roadholding will be key around the infield.  Remember that this championship is all about TEAM points so your choice of chassis will be important.

Teams can choose to run any cars they like, but in any race each all team members must drive different cars, so only one driver can drive the car that does not need to stop.

Pit stop times are listed below with a choice of a single long stop or two shorter stops... the choice is yours.

THIS RACE WILL HAVE A ROLLING START AND CARS ARE EXPECTED TO MAINTAIN THEIR GRID POSITIONS FOR THE FIRST LAP. THE POLE CAR WILL LEAD THE PACK AROUND AT A STEADY SPEED AND RACING WILL START AS CARS EXIT THE FINAL CORNER ON LAP 1.

"Please ensure you are aware of the new in-series penalties for this season. Details are here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=10879.0). Drivers incurring a penalty will receive a PM informing them of this."

Some useful information about pitstops. If you unsure about anything please post  a question and we will give you the answers.

1) We recommend the use of the small programme   "GPL WAIT"   .....link here This will time your stop for you and is simple to set up and operate.

2) Pitstops must be taken by coming to a halt in YOUR pitbox. That means where there is a black board with your racing name on it in pit lane.

3) To be sure that you are correctly in your pitbox approach your name board carefully with your car close to the pit wall. Just when the board vanishes STOP and you are correctly positioned.

4) If your stop is LESS than 30 seconds you can be a little less precise with your position as GPL will not disco you automatically.
However, if your stop is MORE than 30 secs you need to be correctly parked in your pitbox otherwise at 30 seconds GPL will retire your car. THIS IS WORTH PRACTISING OFFLINE.

5) Stop n Go after a Shift-R must be taken as a seperate stop and cannot be combined with your mandatory pitstop.

6) Proirity in pitlane is given to cars that are moving. If you are about to leave the pits after your stop you MUST wait if another car is about to pass you in the pits.

A friggin' screen freeze while I was on the menu page with 1:18 remaing in qualifying.  By the time I re-booted and joined iGOR, the race was well under way.  :(

Screen freeze for me as well - never set a representative lap time - 1:13 in practice and then 1:16+ in qually :(

Just warming up to the task of catching Nigel when :death:

I'd nailed the setup for this one and looked good for P2, maybe P1 if Hristo messed up.
Came into the pits on lap 25 for my stop to find Hristo taking his stop - his bay is immediatly before mine, so I couldn't stop by my board - had been edging up the pits every few seconds but was promptly ejected with 3 seconds of my stop left to perform.

Not happy :(

Screen freeze in menu too, never had that before... some server issue? I was spectating clouds or Hristo in real time, from cockpit, if that is of any revelance.. Barely managed to reenter the race again in time. However, on track something was wrong too... my controls were skipping at times, alot of sound and image stutters, the fps of the track isn't too good neither... My intenet providers have some issues last few days, so maybe its on my side, I dont know, but in any case, it was undriveable, so I gave up.

You must have been watching my car when I had a freeze, so it took you out as well I guess. Fortunately no freezes in the race.

I had to move a bit so I guess I crossed over onto other pit stalls. You should be OK if you move when the "press F1 for help" text appears. I always use that as a reference and haven't been ejected for years. Sorry though, but not really a choice with such long pitstops, even if I used my stall for the initial 20 seconds, I didn't want to risk it because I've been ejected very very long ago despite waiting at my stall.

That didn't appear - I'd been watching for it just in case and had thought I was safe :(
Not your fault H, even if you'd been squarely in your stall it would have been tight for me to get in and I'd have probably blocked you - although that would have been helpfull perhaps ;)

Screen freeze at the end of qually for me too.  I had real trouble shutting down GPL and I fully expected the race to have started before I got GPL up and running again.  Thankfully I got back in just in time, sorry you missed the race Doni.  Given that it seemed to happen to several people at the same time it was probably a server side comms issue.

I was happy with my pace but I was miles behind Hristo and Sergio.  Had a couple of battles with Cookie as we took our various stops but I was no real match for him and he passed me easily.  Pity Tim was discoed on the pit stop.  He would have secured some good points for Team Green :(.

I guess you can't rely on that message, so perhaps unless you're in your stall, move a bit each 10 secs or so. Some say you can stay much longer, but I don't buy it!  ::)

For me GPLWait works flawless...
I stop at my board with 1st gear and just wait til the cockpit is back (no throttle!)

I had a good fight with Tim til my engine blew...

Great result for GT Team International!

Had a good  steady cruise here, thanks everyone for staying out of my way  ;)
Can't say I was fast but I enjoyed finishing for once, despite problems.
Several times now I've had a problem between qually and race start where the mouse cursor just disappears.
By luck I managed to click in the right area and started from pit-lane, thank god for rolling starts :)
Just need virtual mirrors now, cos its very hard to see the fast guys.
Grats to everyone
