Measuring frame rates based on replays is quite misleading as the game has a lot less CPU work to do (no physics, AI or multiplayer data to process) and will lean more heavily on the graphics system.

Thanks guys for putting your time and effort into trying to solve some of our fps issues My problem seems so random, one min everything is ok, change of session and then huge fps hit (this can happen in dry daytime conditions as well). Someone suggested it maybe a connection problem, but I've had a year and a half of gaming with hardly any connection issues, this kind of leads me into thinking it must be some game code thats causing these problems for me So frustrating when it happens and not boding well for me to enter any kind of championships at this stage I forgive you rFactor PC upgrade is on the cards, but next year! :'(

Are you logging MOTEC data Don as that is known to really hurt FPS?

Interesting stuff guys, but i hear nobody talk about MEMORY,i went from 1gb to 2 gb and that made a hughes difference(not only in GTR 1/2),but also in games like Oblivion).i think GTR2 needs at least 1gb. So people who suffer in GTr2 look at memory as well, its a cheap upgrade ! My specs: -3800+ Venice,-7800Gt,-2gb memory. A part from a disco every once in a while i never have any issues playing GTR2.
People who have a rig with AGP interface, consider a EVGA video card, they have very good 7800 GT cards with live long garantee .

I notice if i get a good fps rate in multiplayer, but am out on the track and other drivers join the session (cars load in garage only setting), i go back in to the garage, chat, make some set up amendments, (whilst the game registers other new drivers that have joined whilst i was out on the track originally) - i return to the track to find more drivers on track and less and less fps rate
I think it is something to do with multiplayer deffo - i have:
P.4 2.8 7800gs 256mb oc'd AGP 2 gig ram 2 Gig Broadband conn.
Not fantastic, but not the worst system by anymeans.
Also, if i join a server in the lobby, the lower the ping rate, the better the fps rate - i find anyway.
Does oanyone run with windows firewall on? I had problems with this in GTR, but not GTL or GTR2...in that i could not find any servers/drivers - anything in the lobby..

The only track I seem to have problems with online is spa at the start of the race with a full grid of 28 cars , I'm getting 8fps I've tryed turning the graphics right down and it doesn't seem to make any difference also motec is off. I can run spa on single player with 100% rain and night time with 30 cars and I'm getting 30-50fps, So I'm sure it's somthing to do with multiplayer and not my computer 1800xt 512mb 2gb ram [email protected]2mb ADSL

2Gb here I'm afraid. AMD 4000+, nForce4 chipset, 2GB 400Mhz Dual DDR, SB Xi-Fi Music Xtreme, ATI X1800XT 512Mb, Windows XP Pro SP2.

Same here with the 2gig: Opteron 148 @ 2.6GHz, nForce4 mobo, 2gig dual-channel DDR400 @ 2-3-2-5 2T, nVIDIA 7900GTX OC 512Mb, audigy 2 ZS, XP Pro SP2. I can tell from my G15 system monitor thingy that GTR2 never uses 100% CPU, and I have no trouble running Oblivion on (almost) full detail at 1280x1024 so I'm kinda lost P.4 2.8 7800gs 256mb oc'd AGP 2 gig ram 2 Gig Broadband conn.

I do agree a bit with LeH on it being certain tracks..some fps problematic ones are magny, dubai...others mostly are ok for me tho offline is def way diff to online as id expect offline with full ai grid to be more system intensive than online (i mean CPU, memeory and stuffs) What i have put my finger on is online race with the number of cars taking part...as offline is np at all with full grid. I agree with Simon on Mp code or whatever not optimised (this clearly is the problem as whoever is responsible for it saw fit to limit the nrs to 28!!! Same with GTL, slots only got increased after the patch...remember So as LeH and most have figured out changing gfx or data rate settings is not the answer to all the stutters/fps drop/lag/cars appearing + disapering. Merely a very busy MP code base tripping over itself the more work it has to do. I might be wrong tho but i dont think so lol So lets all pray to our maker for health, wealth and patch 1.1 Opteron 148, nForce4, 2gig dual-channel DDR400, SLI 7800GT, Creative Fatality X-fi, XP Pro SP2

Measuring frame rates based on replays is quite misleading as the game has a lot less CPU work to do (no physics, AI or multiplayer data to process) and will lean more heavily on the graphics system.
To verify the difference, I also included the "life" lap in which I recorded the replay I later used for testing. Indeed it shows slightly different fps, but I think it makes sense to assume that anything that improves fps in a replay also improves fps when driving live. At least when we are talking about graphic settings. Settings like enabling Motec or "high quality replay" are a different issue of course. Btw. I enabled Motec a while ago also for races, but I didn't feel any noticable impact. Live (when I recorded the replay) 1280x800 with DX8: Avg: 99.970 - Min: 66 - Max: 133 replay, 1280x800 with DX8: Avg: 95.110 - Min: 73 - Max: 116 We've really got to hope they make a good patch ...
