I raced in Portimao recently, so I knew this track very well. This Porka 997 is simply easy to drive and very fast.
After the qualif session, I thought that Berger would have been really close to my laptimes, so I started to push a lot by the frist laps of the race, with a great pace. After some laps, I put a small gap between us, and I realized that he couldn't keep my pace in the BMW. At the lap 17 I went to the pit with approximately 15 seconds on him, changing tyres and refueling. This time I put the soft on the front axle, and med on rear. The Pork was immediately faster, and I put 4 fastest laps in row after the pit.
It was strange that the car was still drivable with 120° on rear tyres, but I had no issues, til the track temperatures reached the 37°. Only during the last 5-6 laps I had some difficulties to keep it on the tarmac, but it was due only to the extreme high temperatures reached by the rear tyres. In the final stage I did some mistakes, but without compromizing the result.
To be honest, I guess this car had no rivals in a circuit like this. Easy to drive even with low wings, extreme easy braking, stable cornering. In some stages of the race, I felt like the autopilot was driving in my place.
Grats to Berger for the victory of the champ, H@l for 2nd place, and TT for 3rd, and thanks to all the drivers who joined these races.
I hope to be able to join the last LMP2 race, but I'm not so sure yet.
