Cars allowed: GT4

Time of Day Setting: 13:00
Weather: Dry

rules about in-game chat messages.
(3) You will need to install Race Room Racing Experience from Steam, and have the relevant Track Packs for this series
(4) Please exercise caution when pitting as some tracks have a speed limit.
(5) Please follow the SROUK guidelines for using kerbs etc. Please keep 2 wheels on the track surface (kerbs do not count as track surface)
Excessive cutting of corners will seen as cheating and the results may be altered to reflect this.
(6) Start procedure

*There should be no overtaking or hard accelerating/braking
*Drivers should avoid getting too far behind or too close to the driver in front
*Approximately 20 seconds before crossing the start line the pole sitter should slow down to a speed of no more than 50mph (80km/h)
*Each following driver shall close up directly behind the driver in front also maintaining a speed of no more than 50mph (80km/h)
*The pole sitter should maintain that speed until they cross the start line and then accelerate away to start the race (lap2)
*Each following driver should only accelerate when the driver directly ahead does (they do not have to wait until crossing the start line)
*No overtaking is allowed before crossing the start line at the completion of the formation lap

I didn't know they had Zhuhai in this? The old track or is this a new touring car track? I haven't really been watching the WTCR.

Either way, i'll be missing as I will be at my parents recovering from a long day visiting Snetterton.

Don't think they ever ran WTCR at Zhuhai. It's just the same old layout they used in the FIA GT series 15 years ago. Flat track with the same three corners repeated over and over again. Ningbo is the new circuit used in WTCR, and is much more interesting.

With them only focusing on the WTCR series I assumed it was on their schedule. I noticed they seemed to be racing on a some rather unusual tracks in the far east so assumed it was a new track. Haven't been in game to check it out.

I quite like Zhuhai, remember racing it a few times in GTR2 days. I seem to be able to get the older Cayman around here without spinning it every lap so I'll give this a go. Newer 718 Cayman seems to have had a small physics revamp but I can't tell the difference and it still tries to kill me every lap, especially in the final corner.

There's definitely something that annoys me about Raceroom these days and I always end up in a bad mood when I fire it up so I'll probably be having my usual post race moan  ::)

According to patchnotes for Thursday's update, the older 981 Cayman got a physics update.

Ah right, the Trophy car and not the GTR4 cars. I thought it was a typo because Raceroom doesn't usually describe the Cayman with it's 981 designation. No wonder I couldn't tell any difference when I drove the 718 ::)

Zuhai may not be the most interesting track, But I quite like it. Certainly more than Ningbo which is too awkward to me, I am running it
in the WTCR series because I am, where possible, using the real 2020 tracks they use, so not my choice of tracks, but I am happy with them.

Looked like another small update. I think I have set it up correctly, best check.
I have started the server with the race password, you might want to change that.
Ah, is not your race password...

Once again, more spins than a laundrette for me. Rage quit like a teenager and uninstalled from my HD.

Someone give me a nudge when they've sorted out the FFB  ::)

Don;t understand Tudor? FFB works fine on both my PCs, one is Thrustmaster, and the other is G25
How is not right?

No idea really, something happened in last December "update" which caused some to experience problems. I know the devs said they changed the way the ffb worked so that it is now linked directly to the physics, whatever that means  ??? Net result for me is that there is little feel through the wheel of what is going on at the back of the car when cornering. Once the back steps out it's already too late to catch it and around I go....no warning.

I've spent hours trying different settings, reinstalling wheel drivers, reinstalling game, deleting docs folder, trying my son's wheel (Logitech DFGT like mine) all the usual stuff. Had another long session trying to work it out today but no better. Time to move on...

Like the last GT4 race at Shanghai, this was another battle between Glenn & me for the lead, only this time it was me that made the crucial error near the end.

Evora felt really good around here except for the final corner where it was prone to losing rear grip especially if driving over the inner kerb which almost always resulted in a spin, so I had to be very cautious through there. Glenn was able to capitalise on this a couple of times in the race getting a better run through the final turn & passing me on the S/F straight. We swapped the lead a number of times but the race was resolved when I got on the grass out of T7, I kept the lead but got on the power too hard on dirty tyres at T8 & spun the car. Kept my 2nd place but a lap later the final turn eventually caught me out & I had a second spin. Everyone had gone past by the time I recovered & I only reclaimed one place before the finish when Matt went off at T8.

Congrats to Glenn, John (nice to see you back) & Toni.

Think my luck is definitely in at the moment, well done to John and Toni on the podium and hard luck Geoff - you deserved the win.

The M4 seemed stronger through the last corner, along the straight and through the first corner but Geoff was stronger out of all the hairpins and tighter corners, the BMW seemed to struggle getting the power down over some of the bumps on exit of the tighter corners.

I managed to sneak through into the lead early on but it soon became apparent I didn't have enough fuel to finish the race. Short shifting I couldn't build a gap and didn't fight Geoff's overtakes too hard as I needed the slipstream to save more fuel. I didn't really want to keep passing again down the start finish straight and going side by side later in the lap but knew if I stayed behind where I was strong, Geoff would then pull a gap where he was strong every lap and I'd lose touch.

Just as I was getting ready to throw the towel in, Geoff's car came off the kerb at the last hairpin and rotated. Having been alongside on the straight I'd cut back inside, the front of Geoff's car rotated into the front of mine. I thought the nudge might have straightened him up but he was unlucky to then spin the other way - I suppose the Lotus has no weight on the front end.

The last few laps I had to coast and try everything to save some fuel. I did the last three laps on 1L of fuel and John got very close over the line. Great battle with Geoff but luck favoured me this time.

I knew the BMW was probably favoured here (although most people picked the Lotus) but felt like I had decent pace. Apparently everyone else was just faster. I had the same problem as Geoff in the last corner so opted to take it very carefully, which probably cost me several seconds over the course of the race.

I started off cautiously because the tyres take a while to get up to temperature. After a close call with Tudor's spinning Porsche, I tried to chase the top 4 but since the pace was very similar and I was 4-5 seconds behind it was never going to happen unless mistakes came about, which they eventually did. Stephen was pressuring me from behind so I couldn't take it easy either. Then I saw Geoff had spun and figured I had enough of a gap (3-4 seconds) to hold 3rd place until the end.

The last few laps were done with TC at full just to avoid spinning out of corners until the clock ran out. Congrats to Glenn and onwards to more interesting venues.
