For the life of me I can't figure out how to get off the line with these cars. I've tried high revs, low revs, medium revs, dumping the clutch, easing the clutch out, but no matter what, I always seem to crawl slower off the line than practically everybody else. De Martini in the same car positively catapulted off the line in comparison. If anyone who's discovered the secret would give some advice, I'd be most grateful
Being a gentleman and sporting sort of guy
I feel that i should share my technique for getting off the line, but all the while a little voice is whispering in my other ear.." don't tell him!! let him suffer and you will be able to beat him!! "
This will probably cost me positions and any advantage I might have over Erling but here goes..... Like all things this needs a bit of practice.
Firstly, I always use the same procedure for all cars. I do not use the clutch as I find that there is a lack of feel for the "bite point", so I sit on the grid in neutral and wait.
Once the countdown stops and we get the 3-2-1 running I bring the revs up to about 60-70%.
As soon as the "GO" shows I shift straight into 1st gear, no clutch.
This is where I had to practice, because I use the wheelspin in place of the clutch. It is a case of balancing the engine revs to keep it running at full torque, but at the same time not just lighting up the rear tyres and burning rubber, but going nowhere.
Usually once the car is moving forward you will need to back off the revs to allow the tyres to bite and give max drive. This is where it works really well if you get it right.....and makes you look a proper dunce if you get it wrong!!!
The biggest issue I have is hearing my engine above the chaos all around so that you know when to shift up to 2nd...looking at the rev counter is not always a sensible option with so much happening off the grid.
I hope that
this confuses you even more (sorry the little devil was whispering again) this helps
