Title: Race 07 Caterham Roadsport Challenge - Snetterton - Sep 29

All members welcome.

Grid/server capacity: 28

Practice: ~19:10 (60 mins)
Race 1 Qualifying: 20:10 (20 mins)
Race 1: 20:30 17 laps~20mins, then following shortly afterwards with reverse grid
Race 2: 17 laps~20mins

Track: Snetterton Download this (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=8338.msg147532#post_snetterton_2005)
Snetterton has a problem with its GDB file which you might need to fix to join the server.
Open up your Snetterton folder at......(C:)>Program Files>Steam>steamapps>yourusername>race 07>GameData>Locations>
Look for the GDB file and open it using Notepad. Insert this line: "IGAID=64" below the first bracket in the text.

eg:

snetterton_2005
{
IGAID=64
AI Vehicle Filter = Snetterton
Cars allowed: Caterham CSR200

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Weather: DRY
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal

Server: UKRACE07 CRC
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.

Special Notes: The grid procedure for Race 07 events is slightly different from GTL/GTR2. Upon joining the grid, you won't be able to rev your engine until all drivers are present on the grid. Do not attempt to esc back to garage or you will be DQ'd.

A problem has arisen with a couple of these add on tracks which seems to prevent AI drivers running with us. This only became apparent when the tracks were loaded onto our server. The events affected are this one at Snetterton and Silverstone and unfortunately even with the above fix, we are not able to run the AI.

All drivers will need to install the fix for both of these events. Please shout up if you need any help.

Done a few laps to check its working, it does and what a fun combo :) Be on server later to hopefully get the hang of it.

Have downloaded the file and unpacked. The file designation looks like the SROU application file to install the track but windows doesn't seem to know what to do with it.

Advice please.

Think you have to add ".exe" to it Bill.

No luck ??? just keep getting booted as possible cheat.

This is what I feared. Myself and Tony have been trying to resolve this problem. The fix appears to work for some (I can join the server while Tony can't) but might not work for others. The problem affects Snetterton and Silverstone.

As I see it, at this late stage we have the following choices:

1. We hold another fun race on a standard track while trying to resolve this issue for next week. If the problem remains, we replace the Snetterton and Silverstone rounds with standard tracks.

2. We replace Snetterton and Silverstone with alternative tracks. At this stage it would mean using standard Race 07 tracks.

3. The third choice would be to go ahead with the existing series, which I don't really think is a choice at all.

Thoughts please?

Ade is in  8)

Recommend drivers use the copy/paste function rather than rely on their typing skills  ;)

Obviously, there is no need to use the "....." marks. Just copy/paste IGAID=64 into the GDB file as per instructions in the first post.

Please try this if you get the chance and report back here.

Yes I believe so.

Both Ade and Legzy got in after a couple of attempts. Hopefully they'll post back their experiences to guide others.

That was Amazing! :drool:
I think that this SIM could easily reignite my enthusiasm for driving again 8)

So having completed about 25 laps tonight, having never played it before... Ade said I was doing quite well to get a 1:11.6 ;D

Regards getting onto the server... it's just like GT says...

When you open it it looks like this:
Quote
snetterton_2005
{
    AI Vehicle Filter = Snetterton

& when you've edited it, it looks like:
Quote
snetterton_2005
{
IGAID=64
    AI Vehicle Filter = Snetterton

Can't explain how much i enjoyed that, fantastic slidy fun. Cars exactly how I'd like it to be, you can put the rear end out & then catch it if it's going too far!
See you all on track tomorrow hopefully :thumbup1:

I always said that since the Race07 release and you must try the less powerfull GT cars aswell. You can drive it without GTR's 'driving on ice' feeling.

I followed the instructions - copied and pasted but still have a problem.  Will re-read all this forum and check I didn't miss anything else.

Bill, by "another re-install" do you mean just the add on track or all of Race 07?

I uninstalled the track, reinstalled it, copied/pasted the "fix" and all went OK.

I was continuing, effectively, from my post prior to gt telling me I had mail - ie "Still being booted.  Have reinstalled the track and re copy/paste without luck.

Still faffing about trying".

Tonight I re-installed the track, added GT's .gdb file but I'm still being booted as a possible cheat so I'll not be attending this event  :'(

Good luck GT with your first ever "proper" championship and I hope everyone has a blast. Hope to join you all next time.

Don't fret about me, I'll be spending much of this evening browsing through varous motherboard manufacturers websites in preperation for my awesome Christmas "Build a jolly nice PC" project  ;D

I know it's too late for tonight, but I've put an updated version of the track in the downloads (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=8338.msg147532#post_snetterton_2005). The GDB file is one which needs to be identical at the byte level between server and client to work - any variation in whitespace, line termination or encoding will result in "booted as possible cheat".

Great track, great race(s), great car, love it. :thumbup2:

Race one went sweetly, if a little routine. SBG getting away from me by 1 sec per lap & just about managing to keep the rest of the field a couple of seconds back.

Race two was more fun but one of the two drivers behind me going into L1 T2 knocked my back-end & unfortunately that made it quite a twitchy drive. Took me ages to get back into the 1:11's that I'd been driving lap after lap in the 1st race :(. Still I managed to get some good racing, highlight probably with PR :). Happy with finishing equal 2nd overall, but felt like I should have been at least mixing it with the three cars just up the road from me :'( :laugh:

A good opening evening that, thanks gents. 8)

Not sure it's as simple as that Dave, I downloaded the GDB file from the server and still got booted. Ade's file was different (it had the new line in twice for instance) and I got in OK with that one.

I'd already decided to run without AI Dave, as it was clear that there was some conflict with them.

This .gdb file issue was totally unexpected and I'm still not sure why the fix worked for some and not for others. It was so disappointing to see drivers trying to join and being booted this evening. Apologies to those who were unable to join. I hope this problem can be resolved before the next event.

Despite not having much practise and therefore being a bit far off the pace, I quite enjoyed that once I actually got online.  Downloading Ade's file sorted it in the end.

Cheers guys, enjoying Race 07.

Cheers guys, enjoying Race 07.

Me too.

Race 1 was not easy but it was quite. I had a bad start and thought the field would be on me but I had no pressure at all. Legzy had good race pace and I had to push hard to bring it home. If he had a better start I would have really struggled with the nasty man.

Race 2 was always looking like more fun and it was. Got a fright at start off of Bill and our little touch left my car a little wobbly at the back. Nothing dramatic but just enough to get my attention. Had good clean fights with everyone after that, one with Picnic was nice, then thought it would climax nicely as I caught Tudor in 1st. His pace was good and I thought he would put up a hard fight but he just threw it off just as I got with him, apparantly he was distracted by his engineer teling him "Ginsters is faster than you"  ;) Is that the FIA on the phone?

Unlucky Tudor and congrats to all.

Would it be a good idea to run with standard tracks until addon issues are fully sorted? Anyways, more Race please :)

Sorry about start of race 2  Ian - found with my G25 setup the start was easy, on the rev limiter and drop the clutch.  Engine stayed on the cam but had to back off because of the cars in front.

Quite pleased with the night, seeing how I hadn't really touched Race 07 till yesterday after a couple of years I guess.  At least the start is better than GTR 2 - drivers popping in and out all the time.  Sorry to any other drivers I caught out with my driving - when there a 3 cars behind you, a hectoring voice giving you warnings, it's difficult to stay out of every bodies way.

Also the track is different from the one we used on GTL, particularly that stupid chicane.

Thanks gt for arranging Series and hope to find time to participate in more races - GTL practice allowing.

I think it's selective about the criteria used to specify the finishers. I don't recall exactly but I know that non-finishers still started at the rear of the grid for race 2. It may just consider the first eight past the finish line or something like that.

Truth is I well and truly cods'd it with the scoring setup.

I have been flogged and promise not to do it again. The rest of the season will be scored from both races (or I'm a dead man).

Thanks for your understanding
