Welcome mate - yeah we only race GTL on Thursdays, you might notice we run two championships side by side. We've just had a sprint event and this Thursday is the enduro. Next week is back to a sprint around Monaco79 for the penultimate round.

I can't comment on RaceDepartment but I remember first finding this bunch of hooligans a couple of years ago and was just so happy to find an alternative to racing offline or on the crazy as public servers. There are loads of groups out there but I consider myself quite lucky to have found this one first.

You'll notice it's really well organised, there's a race incident procedure where a team of moderators will look over anything you feel has happened during a race that you're not happy with - there are proper standings tables, stats for your career, detailed lap by lap analysis reports (*cough* most of the time Smiley) but above all, it's a friendly bunch of damn good drivers throughout the games we run on here. I cannot tell you how many insanely good and close races I've had...I used to rave about them but now it's almost expected you're going to have some serious fun on most occasions.

Just my opnion but I would say the best way to start off is read Gizmo's (Bossman) rules, go for consistency with your lap times and absolutely attend the practice sessions when you can (Wednesday night there's usually somebody on from 9pm'ish - also on Teamspeak). Nobody's going to get peeved if you're not smashing lap records from the get go but they might if you do some crazy move when being lapped or try and make up 15 places by corner one or basically don't follow the pretty simple etiquette Smiley

As for Melbourne, I was blabbing on to my team mates about techniques and all of that stuff in our forum so if you send me a PM with your email I'll copy that for ya but also give you the setup I used during the race. I would also say watch any replays you can from a few camera angles and try and make a note of when people are getting on the brakes, turning in, getting on the throttle again and so on - it really helped me when I first started and I still do it now if I'm struggling somewhere.

It's all getting a bit tense as it's the closing rounds but normally everyone's really free with setups etc. I'm still properly crap with them but I guarantee somebody will be about to help you, particularly if you're just starting out.

Last but not least, if you're into this era of racing, you might want to keep one eye on the Power n Glory mod. It's this but for GTR2 and I suspect before long we're all going to end up there as much as loads of would rather not admit it. Very different, I would say much trickier but if you've got half an idea what they feel like it might help if you make this a regular thing.

Christ I've written a lot.....err....and to summarise the racing here is wicked, you'll love it trust me Wink

Well, I don't really have problems, I just don't get my time down!

The car is also the 906 Porsche!
btw, I am using the G25 with manual clutch and H-Pattern shifter.
Have tried to get accustomed to the toe-heel technique but this still needs some practice!

I don't have that m uch knowledge about car setups and I don't know where my driving sucks!
i.e. T1: I start braking 100% inbetween the two markers (150 & 100m), brake, then shift into 2ed, ease of the clutch so I am in the gear before approaching the apex. If things work out fine, I can uphold almost 100kmh through T1!

What do you say?
How many of you drive with manual clutch and do you know any turns where people reugularly loose speed?!

Well if you work out a specific problem (like... the car doesn't turn in as much as you want), I'll help you fix it. Smiley

Well then,

the car definitely understeers a lot in the exits even when I only apply a little throttle!
It seems like I have to lift to turn!

Try lowering front rebound &/or increasing rear bump Wink

what does "bump" mean?
it's one half of your dampners (rebound being the other half)

so it is the value that determines how quickly the shock is allowed to compress? (rebound being the value determining how quickly the shock is allowed to release!?)

Someone else will know/care about the technical detail side Wink... I know that if my car is understeery while accelerating I need to start by lowering the front rebound &/or increase rear bump (you could also raise the rear ride height a touch). To combat oversteer while accelerating, I do the opposite changes (up front rebound, down rear bump).

The biggest single problem with the 906 is usually the engine braking oversteer, which is most easily controlled with the "coast" differential. The higher the coast % the less likely your rear end will overtake you as you go into a corner. I think I had mine at 70/80% for this circuit.

What do I do to combat oversteering when lifting and coasting?

Hi blueeyes and welcome.

There's a good guide to car setup here....

http://www.g33.co.uk/suspension_theory.htm

There are lots of GTL setups from the great, the good and the not so good here........

http://www.nogripracing.com/files.php?subcat=36&sort=downloads

I don't know how long you've been simracing, but if you're a relative newcomer as I am, I wouldn't be overly concerned about finding ultimate setups. Try a couple from above, maybe from similar style tracks and go with the one that feels best. Then drive. Maybe do 20 laps, concentrating on keeping an even pace. Don't go so fast that you keep falling off, because it will take much longer to learn the whole track that way.

Read our rules and tips as mentioned in previous posts and pop along to one of our pracci sessions. For your first few races, set yourself achieveable targets - your first might be to complete a race with us or to lap consistently as in your practice lap times.

After the race, have a look at your times and those of the drivers in front of you. Have a look at the replay and make a few notes on the things you did well and not so well. Work on these as you practice for the next race and go through the same process each time.

Hope to see you on track Smiley

Excellent mate two seconds ain't bad for a couple of night's work, you aleady wouldn't have been last if you could run those consistently!!

Agree with Goldtop on the setup thing....I'd say you'll gain more getting the lines, braking technique and so on sussed to begin with. There might be some glaring stuff like fuel, steering lock, possibly brake bias if you're blatantly locking up everywhere at the front or rear but that's about it until you're settled in to the track.

Good fun innit!? Smiley

I've never done pit stops before but in these events, they are obligatory!

19laps @ albert park in the 906

Does it make a difference when I pit?

I thought about pitting after lap 12 with 7 laps to go! Just because when I pit, I will have been driving with less fuel, and when I hit the track again, I won't have that much fuel either (which should minimize the changes of the handling due to the weight of fuel!)

Are there strategies? Huh
