Some good racing last night
Race 1:Clearly dressed wrongly for this, but wanted to get my Anglia drive out of the way. It's the most difficult car for me, and coming from one of the other two, more abuseable cars, I would be likely to make a mistake. Kept 3rd at the start, with a wolfpack of Minis snapping at my heels. After a lap, one had separated from the pack. I had no doubt it was Clive. A lap or two later however, I saw his car rolling in my mirrors, as I pulled away from the hairpin. I was slipping away from the rest of the pack, roughly at the same rate Ziu & Geoffers were slipping away from me. Rest of the race lonely then, and mostly a question of preventing the Anglia from mugging me.
Race 2:Mini here. Clive's Imp had better traction off the line, so he got in front. Apart from an intermezzo with Tony on L1, rest of the race was basically a wild chase of Clive. Behind me in an Anglia was Roger, which was bad news, as he's been both fast and consistent since his return. Chase of Clive kept me ahead though. Made a mistake halfways through, riding on a kerb and losing a lot of time. Brought Roger up close, and gave Clive a comfortable gap. Was never able to reclaim the lost ground, and as the race wore on, it became more and more impossible, with my poor front tyres crying 'enough'.
Race 3:Expected to be able to jump Ziu at the start, with my Imp, but he apparently failed to move, making it very easy. He was soon through though, so staying ahead looked dubious. The great traction out of corners of the Imp seemed to keep me ahead, and then Ziu was replaced by Clive in his Anglia. Prospects for staying ahead didn't look any rosier, but was determined to sell my hide as dearly as possible. It was with some satisfaction that I saw his Anglia twitching in my mirrors, while I hammered the Imp as hard as I possibly could, with complete stability - love this car!
As Clive mentioned, he suddenly spun and then left soon after, taking all the excitement with him. Geoffers was moving (further) away, with about a second a lap, while I added 4 secs to the gap to the car behind each lap, so the rest of the race was fairly dull.
Grats to all winners and other podium'ers, and grats to Ziu for the title.
Huge big thanks to Tony and everyone else involved in setting all this up for us, and thanks to my fellow racers for taking part.
A get well soon to Dom, and Merry Christmas to all! See you at Goodwood.
