Somewhat frustrated to realise only at qual, that all versions of the M1 was allowed (this assuming the Procar one is the slowest of the bunch) Had not noticed the 'All versions' next to Tony's link - or not made the connection, as car was named M1 Procar in the race announcement. For once I didn't ask Tony about the versions, as it didn't even dawn on me (or is it the track versions I usually pester you with ?
)
Random grid gave me a lucky front row position. Managed to squeeze into the lead at the first corners. Didn't last long until 3 cars passed me, when I went a bit wide in a corner. Some laps in 4th followed, but then within 2 corners, first one and then a second dust cloud, meant I was suddenly in 2nd!
Remained there for quite a few laps. The long straight didn't have any natural brake markers. The arrow/distance signs were too late, so I had picked a subtle blotch on the tarmac instead. Very easy to miss, which I of course did eventually. Ran into the gravel and hit the wall. My shadow some 3 secs behind; Clive made it past before I could rejoin.
Car was damaged after the impact; steering was lighter and it didn't track straight anymore. As if this wasn't enough, any hopes of staying with Clive was quashed when I missed that braking point again. No more damage, but lots of time lost. In my own lonely bubble then. Found out the steering damage combined with tyre wear above 7 was a poisonous cocktail. Any attempt at shedding speed while not going straight, would have the rear kick out. Spun and nearly spun several times because of this, but thankfully had enough gap to retain 3rd to the end.
Grats to Clive and Geoffers (I think). Commiserations to Matt and anyone else who couldn't join.
Just realised that the F1 race is already on Wednesday. Haven't even gotten the special install made, so probably will have to give it a miss :'( Am working this week, so only have tomorrow night to get everything running, car selected and practice done. Don't think that's realistic with something this different.
Cheers,
Erling
