IT disaster chez Clive!!!
Tried the F1 Monaco server on Wed evening and after a few laps developing a nice stable setup and learning the track, I got a moment where the game froze again, just like it did at Kyalami.
So, I decided to do some housekeeping on the computer and check that everything was as it should be.
When I set up the F1 mod I installed it on my external hard disk ( Drive H:) that I use as storage/backup. It worked fine for the initial practice sessions over Xmas and for the first race at Donington. In fact I used to run GPL and GTL from there too, but I recently cleared out a load of junk files on the internal hard disks and moved both of those directories "inside".
So I ran a defrag and disk check on the external drive and left it running, figuring that there would be a load of crap entries left lying around and that would tidy things up.
I returned a couple of hours later to check on things and was faced with no H: drive listed
!!! I tried everything I know to re-discover the drive, roamed the interweb and looked up various forums for answers but although the light was on, there was definitely no life
I am guessing that those freezes were the beginning of the end , and the act of defragging just finished off the drive completely. I have lost a load of photos and old files, plus several game folders. Fortunately I had moved my GPL and GTL installations complete with all the setups and car sets etc only a few weeks ago.
Hopefully I will be able to get the F1 mod going again with a fresh install. Just one question guys..........I have a few 32gb USB sticks and was wondering if GTL would run OK from them? That way I could have a fresh install of GTL for each series on labelled sticks, and 32Gb ought to be big enough to handle all of the tracks etc?
In some ways it is fortunate that I have "only" lost the F1 GTL install as there was not a that many setups and circuit downloads in that file as yet. It still means that I ma spending a cold wet Sunday afternoon rebuilding the F1 install and setting up another external hard drive.
