I knocked a wheel loose, and valiantly soldiered on in a car that was no longer sure, of what straights were for! Huh

Another 2 laps in a shaky second, and the hedges struck again

GREAT - I can't even catch 'em when they have three wheels  Angry

Too late for that  laugh

I never do well at the Nurburgring so decided to save my precious tokens by calling into service an old bathtub. As usual it was a case of racing the track rather than other drivers but for once I managed to be amongst the handful to complete the race without major drama or technical problems.

Congrats to Bernie on his fine win for the Soggies.

Decided to take it nice and steady to finish rather than compete - managed to catch Michael at the end of the first lap (even though he is MUCH quicker than me and then got excited and tried to race - fatal. One Shift-R later tried to calm down and lost it before I could take my stop and go Sad

Thank you all. Lots of work to do...

Thanks boys. I feel like a novice golfer who is told their scores will get worse before they improve when their swing is corrected. Only problem is my golf did indeed get worse - and then stayed there. If anyone wants to win a game in North London (Enfield/Palmers Green) drop me a line Grin
4041  SimRacing In General / Grand Prix Legends / Re: needing help with Zandvoort 65 on: November 06, 2010, 11:33:25 AM +0000
Told you it wasn't great. I left the other laps in so that you could get a feel for what I do consistently.

I really appreciate the feedback. The problem I have at the moment is that when I brake heavily I lose control so I am tentative - same for the acceleration Sad I am beginning to think that until my basic skills are somewhat better I ought to duck out of the races or just retire early so that I don't run the risk of ruining somebody's season. That was really the question I posed to Vosblod when I signed up.

The major skill I need to develop at the moment is being lapped safely (lol).

Oh the shame...

The setup I used is here

http://rapidshare.com/files/429130476/QualZandvoortHonda65.mu1

Highlights are:
Front Roll Bar 140lbs Rear 160lbs
Front wheel rate 80lbs/in Rear 100 lbs/in
23 PSI all round (which is 2 higher than I thought I was using lol)
54% Brake bias

Note the excellent control after the last lap - thought I'd leave it in to give you a flavour of just what a driver I am!

Be gentle - its my first time... Grin

4043  SimRacing In General / Grand Prix Legends / Re: needing help with Zandvoort 65 on: November 05, 2010, 08:01:15 PM +0000
OK - I'm starting to get it - mind you went back to Zandvoort and found myself lapping at 1:37 Sad

I am clearly not doing it right because my tyre temps never get much above 150 or so and remain resolutely blueish in Pribluda - I've only just realised the colour change is significant. D'oh.
4044  SimRacing In General / Grand Prix Legends / Re: gt mod very soon on: November 05, 2010, 03:03:39 PM +0000
I can't get Pribluda to work with the V2 D3D rasterizers and the V1 rasterizers flicker on the menus - can anyone confirm whether or not the latest Pribluda wirks with Nigels rasterizers?

Cheers,

a) you have the front of the car set up very soft so that any application of brakes transfers a whole lot of weight ( and therefore grip) onto the front wheels and also lightens the rear allowing it to rotate.

and/or

b) your approach to the corner is too tentative and you simply do not have enough inertia to break the traction at the front. This might take a bit of getting used to but with 65's you really should be maximising the roadholding on the cars.

That is interesting but I thought the brakes were meant to transfer the weight to the front - front is about 120lbs arb and the back is about 150. But I probably am too tentative because I just don't travel anything like as fast as you guys. The problem I find is that if I try and go faster into the corner I just spin. I'm probably turning in way too late and hitting the limit of the tarmac on the outside - almost never overcook it on power application now, its always the deceleration to the Apex that gets me. Cheers, P.

Aggggh - now I am really confused. OK I'll go back to linear - I am just reading about a million posts and people suggest all kinds of things - I'm like a really bad golfer buying a new club instead of sorting out his swing  Grin I'll try anything.

As for a tap of the brakes increasing understeer - I don't get that at all. I set the bias at about 52-55% (depends on my mood!) and I find that tapping the brake as I am turning in accentuates the turn - surely that is oversteer?

You chaps speak in driverese whereas I am fluent in learnish only.  Angry

Thanks for the info though. BTW I am not practicing at all for the 'ring. I am quite happy with my 10:40 and I can probably stay unlapped for more than half the race. My main aim in any race at the moment is threefold.

1. Finish. 2. Don't get lapped more than once  3. Set a PB. Small aims but enough for now. Wink

This only applies for this specific race and only if you take your one allowable Shift/R on the 7th (final) lap.
Tim - which is it? The 7th lap only or my final lap?  Grin
Hopefully they will be the same thing  Wink

If I get to 5 I'll be ecstatic...  Roll Eyes

I do know what you mean. I am just gobsmacked how you guys can 'feel' a car. I seem to 'feel' the spin about 350 in...

I have started to steer with pedals and I am finding the car turns in response to the throttle but I need a LOT more practice - I also feel I am not being brave enough - I can't bring myself to turn in really early and let the car slide to the apex and let it rotate so I am entering corners slowly and steering/throttling my way round.

Incidentally, changing the steering to non-linear has helped me with 'aiming' at the corner but my laptimes have gone haywire. I was doing 1:35-1:37 pretty consistently but finding it hard to improve - I now have a Pribluda best of 1:32 but I can't hang it together so I am always having an off or two per lap. Given where I am do you think I should persist with non-linear or go back towards linear where I was more consistent?
