Title: RRE Season 3 (2016) Race Room GT2 - Shanghai - Jul 10
Post by: goldtop on May 30, 2016, 05:49:48 PM +0100
(http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p195/goldytops60/20160530165720_1_zpsqwo4w798.jpg)

This race will be a rolling start following a formation lap and the procedure is as follows:

*It will be the pole sitter's responsibility to complete the first lap at a pace that allows the rest of the grid to follow comfortably
*There should be no overtaking or hard accelerating/braking
*Drivers should avoid getting too far behind or too close to the driver in front
*Approximately 20 seconds before crossing the start line the pole sitter should slow down to a speed of no more than 50mph (80km/h)
*Each following driver shall close up directly behind the driver in front also maintaining a speed of no more than 50mph (80km/h)
*The pole sitter should maintain that speed until they cross the start line and then accelerate away to start the race (lap2)
*Each following driver should only accelerate when the driver directly ahead does (they do not have to wait until crossing the start line)
*No overtaking is allowed before crossing the start line at the completion of the formation lap

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see
cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?pid=7) especially the
rules about in-game chat messages.
(3) You will need to install Race Room Racing Experience from Steam, and have the Euro and American Track Packs for this series (And maybe another non pack track occasionally)
(4) Please exercise caution when pitting as some tracks have a speed limit.

(5) Please follow the SROUK guidelines for using kerbs etc. Please keep 2 wheels on the track surface (kerbs do not count as track surface)
Excessive cutting of corners will seen as cheating and the results may be altered to reflect this.

This is the first event in our short summer series of GT2 sprint races. There are 5 races in this series of which the 4 highest scores count towards the championship.

These GTR2 cars are a lot of fun to drive and feel more racey than the GT3 cars. There is likely to be a physics update and possibly more cars joining this class sometime this year so if popular we could include them in our next full season in the autumn.

Hey, in for this one. Can't we make it 1 hour races???

Good to see you in for this Ant  8)

I'm a fan of longer races too but feedback from others suggest they are not so popular. Maybe we'll return to the 60 minutes with pitstop format for the autumn.

In the meantime, there is a 50% sale on for all tracks and cars. Here's a checklist for the tracks we'll need for this summer series featuring the GT2 and Silhouette cars:

Mazda Laguna Seca
Brands Hatch Indy
Bathurst
Shanghai
Suzuka GP
Paul Ricard
Monza GP
Spa

Great, Yes GT these cars are a pleasure to drive, more direct and less understeering. I hope the don't take away the setup options in the update due for GT2. But anyway lets see

Hmm, so there is a sale on individual cars at the moment, and I have just about enough vRPs for one GT2 and one GT3 car (plus a couple of extra tracks which I don't yet have). I find the test drive option a bit limited though, and difficult to get to know the individual cars really well - are the GT2s (and GT3s) fairly well matched?

I have all the GT cars except the GT2 Cadillac and I think they're all close enough to not worry. I'm usually quicker in the Rufs but that's because they suit my driving style, having said that I'll probably take the vette or the bimmer for a change in this series.

Thanks. Went for the Caddy, and also picked up a random GT3 car as well to use up my points.

I think the cars are very even. I was actually a few hundredths quicker here in the Ruf than I was in the BMW but leaderboard didn't register the time for some reason. I checked the leaderboards for the other tracks in the series and no car seems to be dominant.

The BMW is an easier driver and did go slighty quicker in it. the Ruf is definatly more like the 997rsr in GTR2 we had. Certainly a bit more lively, but hope to improve it a bit before the race. Only did a 2:04 in it though, i seem to think GT was doing 2:01s from the last look on the leaderboard!

Was able to get a 2.02... In the ruf.. :)
Found it a fun drive ... A bit of a handful ..
Though when running in practice ... The cars respond different
2.03-04?!

Just to remind everyone, there are no car restrictions for this series (or the Silhouette series) and your best 4 scores from 5 events count towards championships.

Yep, track conditions are different in leaderboard, practice, quali and race.

I found the power coast trasition to severe, there arnt too many haipin style corners but plenty of tightening corners where you have to do stuff mid corner.

No problem with that Ant, you were well alongside going into there so I saw that as a racing incident and no need to wait. Anyway, my previous overtake was a bit of a late lunge....I was holding my breath for that one as I knew it was probably the only chance I'd have. fantastic racing  8)

Was certainly eventful but still good fun! Sorry about the first corner Dieter. But was going to be a good run back up and then you stopped after the last corner?

Good fun with TT and Spanner, but also some weird stuff going on - my position in the race seemed to keep changing, and I don't think any of my race laptimes were recorded? Spanner got a little sideways at T1 and we made contact - sorry about that, hope I wasn't lagging or anything there? I waited, but then all cars around me started to flicker and disappear.. Thought it safer to quit.

Yeah, sorry about that - see my comments above, I was worried I was lagging and causing trouble.. Congrats podium.

Those results look a bit ackered.

The Ruf seems to want to be a GT3 car and the Cadillac also appears to have an identity crisis. I sent Dave the details and he confirmed as done but something seems to have gone amiss  ???

For those who have an interest in rubber  ;) there are a few tyre brands used with these cars but Michelin seem to be the most prevalent.

The Rufs were simply mapped wrong. I'm not at all sure about the Caddy being GT2, though - the real CTS-V.R runs in the GT class in SCCA WC, which is equivalent to GT3.

But that's the class its given in-game. I'm not sure its worth reclassifying everything based on what you think it should be in!

Though was surprised to see people drive it as its not a car that seems to work well, maybe its because they've tried ot move it into a class by giving it more power or what, but never really like the car. Thought everyone was going to be in Ruf but then only two of us took it.

I had no issues with your connection Frex which Is why I was happy driving that close to you!

Thanks for doing your thing with the tyres Tony  :)

Not sure what to do with the class for Cadillac then  :-\ Strange that it should be lumped in with GT2 when it's more of a GT3 in RL but I'll leave Dave to decide on that one.

I hadn't bought or driven the Cadi until a couple of days ago but quite liked it and I was able to run close enough to the other cars when I tested it in leaderboard. I'll probably drive a different car each round as I'm considering using the GTR2 class for our next full season (along with but not alongside the GT3s).

What is Eck talking about?

Well, yet again, my feeble-mind didn't hold onto the rolling start (This doubly annoys me (and TM too, I suspect), as its nearly always rolling starts at RC).

I launched, with my usual fervour, and hit yet another of my fellow competitors. So, p'd off with myself, I pulled over and gave up. I came here and gave myself a hard time.

Though I've calmed down a little now, I sure as, wouldn't want myself starting behind.
