Season 38 – 1955 Grand Prix – Round 2 – Privateers - Spa-Francorchamps

This race announcement is for the PRIVATEERS.

The second race in the 1955 Grand Prix series finds us in Belgium at Spa-Francorchamps. Designed in 1920 the original triangle-shaped course used public roads between the Belgian towns of Francorchamps, Malmedy, and Stavelot. The track was intended to have hosted its inaugural race in August 1921, however the first car race was held at the circuit in 1922. Spa was the fastest road circuit in Europe at the time, and it had a nasty reputation for being dangerous and very fast. It was a circuit known to be one for the brave, and most drivers were frightened of it. The old Spa circuit was unique in that speeds were consistently high with hardly any let-up at all for 3–4 minutes. This made it an extraordinarily difficult mental challenge (& ridiculously easy to crash).

PRO without any reset possibility ?
(I already had a look to the championship page but it is the same page for Works and Priv.)

Privateers is PRO because we split the championship because of the number of entrants. Not for any other reason. I can change to allow a reset for Privateers if they are in agreement but it is a bit late for this round.

No reset for me, I just wanted to know the rules  ;)

 Elimination race, only 3 at the finish.For me was an easy race.

Easy race for me, too.

I was 7th on the grid, and only 8th on the starting line after a slow start, then I didn't overtake any car on the track but I could finish 2nd !

Anyway with this server no problems with the gears,all work.Thank you Phil.

I've loaded the chassis the drivers used into the token calculator spreadsheet.  For the next race the available tokens will be as declared in the table below (the table will also appear in the next race announcement).  The calculated values are automated but selecting the cars is a manual process so please check your tokens to make sure I haven't made a silly error.

Pleased to hear that Fran :). I've no idea why the gears are OK on this server but we'll stick with UKGPL04 for the Privateers until we work out what is going on.

Race of attrition . 1 overtake , at least 7 off's last one ripped a wheel off , tried to finish with my 3 wheeler but lost it at the dreaded Masta .

Grats to all survivors , commiserations to all who died for the cause  ::)

Just tried a few laps in the Maserati at Spa 67 (off line ) , on one lap I found I was stuck in 4th gear !

never had that happen before  in any mod or car ???

Great news Fran, thank you! I've actually been to that track back in 1968 when I lived in Auckland for about a year. I can't remember much about it, I was only 8 years old. But I seem to recall there were a lot of Falcons and Holdens!

What is holdens Phil, the translator is in trouble.

Holden is an Australian make of automobile. I believe the Parent company is General Motors.

In great britain we have Vauxhall, In europe Opal, USA chevy etc.

Yes that's right. The was (still is?) no indiginous car manufacturers in NZ so a lot of the cars in the 60s were imported from Australia or imported and assembled locally. Bruce McLaren probably designed and built more cars than any other Kiwi. Someone let me know if I'm wrong. Hence Ford Falcons (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Falcon_(Australia)) (Ford Australia) and Holdens (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holden_HR) (GM Australia) were popular cars in saloon car racing.

Is the first time, never heard holden.

In UK they were imported under the Vauxhaul badge

Probably is most famous into the Commonwealth.

In Australia it is more a matter of religion. The whole population is either Ford or Holden. Even if they own a Merc!
