LAP ONE RED ZONE: Full moderation from race start to end of Flugplatz

Reserve drivers should not use the server between 35 and 30 minutes of qualifying to allow full timers to join (note this requirement is currently suspended for the Works competition). Please restrict chat to pit messages.

Moderating will be by FULL moderation of the lap one Red Zone (see above) plus any other reported incidents, however the moderators reserve the right to review any incident. The aim is to review the race the following weekend so incident reports should be submitted within five days of the race (ie the following Friday). We're hopeful most incidents can be resolved amicably and recommend a days deep breath with a replay review before posting. A sorry in the forum won't be taken as an automatic admission of guilt by the moderators.

With the token system chassis strategy will be a factor. A driver must have sufficient tokens for the chassis he drives in the race.  Any driver who does not have sufficient tokens will be disqualified from the result and his tokens will be set to zero.

Chassis costs;
Lotus 20 / Eagle 17 / Ferrari 15 / Brabham 10 / Cooper 5 / Honda 3 / BRM 0

To see your current tokens hover your mouse over your total points on the Works (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=337&theme=6) championship standings page. Ten tokens will be added when you cross the start line.

The Nürburgring is a motorsport complex around the village of Nürburg, Germany. It features a modern Grand Prix race track built in 1984, and a much longer old North loop track which was built in the 1920s around the village and medieval castle of Nürburg in the Eifel mountains. The old track, which we are using, was nicknamed The Green Hell by Jackie Stewart and is widely considered the toughest, most dangerous, and most demanding purpose-built racing circuit in the world.
In the early 1920s ADAC Eifelrennen races were held on public roads in the Eifel mountains. Soon this was considered impractical and dangerous. In order to provide work and lure tourists into the area, the construction of a dedicated race track was proposed. The track was completed in spring of 1927, and the first German Grand Prix was held there in July. In 1939 the full Ring was used for the last time in major racing events, as future Grands Prix would be held only on the Nordschleife. After World War II, racing recommenced in the 1950s and the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring again became the main venue for the German Grand Prix. By the late 1960s, the Nordschleife and many other tracks were considered increasingly dangerous for F1 cars. In 1967, a chicane was added before the start/finish straight. Various changes were made in the following years until, following Niki Lauda's crash in 1976, use of the old ring in formula one ceased for good.

Does ukgpl have a rule about enabling automatic black flag for shortcuts (all 4 wheels off the track)?

Or did i dream that it did? Tried browsing the rules again but haven't found anything.

We disable checkpoints on the servers as they can sometimes be a little 'enthusiastic'. The rules regarding corner cutting can be found here (https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/railriding)

Thx for explanation. It would be difficult to not cut at least one from 1044 turns.

For comparison, Monza race will have 165 turns, Glen 360, Interlagos only 272.

We do try to use the common-sense rather then the traffic warden approach when applying the rules ;)

Well that was gutting. I was determined to finish this race as I managed to cock up on the first lap last time we raced here. Sadly it was not to be. Bob was catching me after an early mishap and undoubtedly he was quicker. He tried to drive around the outside of me on one corner which was fair enough; but then the internet decided to screw us over and we both warped into each other. Bob managed to continue at least but I was not so lucky and found myself upside down, a bit miffed frankly.

Nothing you really could have done Bob, I'm hoping our coming together didn't wreck your race. It's just one of those things. I was just hoping to do better on this outing rather than a lap 1 casualty. Good luck to everyone else for the rest of the race.

Oops, ripped a wheel off when I ran wide on lap 3, I think.  Shame as I wasn't expecting to be anywhere near anyone in works and wasn't that far behind a group on the mid pack.

Shame, I was quite enjoying that.

Glad to even make the race given graphics driver issues and a thumb injury rather curtailing any practice, but everything resolved in time for Sunday evening. Wasn't half tiring piloting the Brabham around those Eifel hills, the old machine was reliant to the end though and I'm pleased enough with just keeping it on the road. By the end my eyes were very much on stalks and my hands viced to the wheel. :P

Well done to those who survived and as ever thanks to those who committed to showing up and/or organising the event as well as those who hosted practice servers, always invaluable for such a demanding event.

'Till next time. :)

I ripped a wheel on lap 2 when comfortably in P3. I could think i had and lost P3, but realistically there was no chance to finish a pro race at nurby after 5 months off.

I could count on finishing by round 3 if it wasn't at Dragons F Nest. It doesn't even look like a racetrack, more like a fantasy rollercoaster kind of kids track. Can we rather have a race at Bloodbath?  ;D

Congrats to all those who lasted longer or even finished  :)

Yes that was a rather spectacular coming together, even though we didn't actually touch.  However, I am sorry for putting you in that position especially since you couldn't continue.  I was thinking of going round the outside but was sure I'd have to yield when you suddenly went up in the air.  My latency bars were non existent so I didn't think I had much warp...but I suppose it always has the ability to surprise.

I was able to continue and my car didn't seem to be suffering any adverse effects.  It was entertaining to chase a few cars down, a few of which I am sure let me by. Definitely a challenge to overtake here.  After passing Fulvio I was at the head of the gaggle and set about making inroads into the gap to Al.  I did manage to whittle a bit off the gap but in the process had a couple of moments and couldn't catch him.  I actually thought there was another lap!

One of my moments was after bottoming at Flugplatz, how do you guys set your cars up for that?  I was set at 3.6 ride height, 120lbs wheel rate and 150lbs anti roll, all at the rear.  I progressively raised height and spring rates to try and stop the bottoming, but it didn't quite work out.  From the replay it looks like my car was on the firmer side of average than the others.  I was also lifting before the jump.

Cheers,

Bob

I use 2" bump rubbers on the Honda with only 75lb front and 90lb rear springs and it takes that dip flat in 5th..provided I have got my line right and the car is not trying to turn at the same time.

Decided to drive for a finish rather than a podium, as Joe and co up front were posting some impressive lap times up front. I even bailed out of qually after doing just a single full lap, because unless you can drive away from the field here, you are probably better taking a very careful 1st lap and avoid the debris  ;)......which worked rather well as I picked up a couple of place on lap, 1 as others tried to modify the shape of the scenery.

Found myself as high as 4th at one point but Tom ( King Hiro) in his Lotus was recovering from the lap 1 melee and soon passed me. But then he made a mistake and I was back to 4th again......and again  ;D.

Eventually I paid the price for trying to stay with his Lotus and clipped the grass with too much right foot and spun, although the damage seemed minimal I backed off and made sure that I finished.
Looking back I can only remember doing 5 laps and not 6!!! I guess it just shows how much I was enjoying myself. I was even more pleased to discover that I had taken 4secs off my PB in the Waza.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Felt good to be back on track after a season away. Qually was a bit of a disaster as my two best laps were ruined first by blowing my engine 3/4 way round then next lap by my pedals deciding to slide out from under my feet just as I entered the final chicane :-\ Some hasty & inelegant modifications to secure everything to the floor with the aid of several meters of packing tape ensued...

Race went pretty well - seemed a clean start & I set off behind Tom's Lotus with Fulvio tailing me but we all got caught up in Bob's spin at the dip - I couldn't see that Bob had gone off so was caught out when Tom suddenly braked to avoid him & despite stamping on the anchors (& praying the packing tape would hold) still could not avoid nudging my teammate up the rear. When the dust cleared I found myself up to 2nd place & with Joe already way ahead just tried to lap at a consistent pace for me without taking too many risks. Started taking a few more risks when I saw a recovering Bob was up to 3rd & in fast pursuit, so was relieved to hang on to 2nd place until the flag. Congrats to Beefy Joe for a very well-deserved win & to all the other finishers.

I did ask for feedback on DN back in September https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=9952.msg181666#msg181666 (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=9952.msg181666#msg181666)
Once the season is underway we try to avoid chopping and changing unless a track has online issues.
