Title: UKGPL Season 22 (2011-2012) Specs - Aintree - Nov 4
Post by: Billy Nobrakes on October 30, 2011, 11:20:14 PM +0000
Welcome to Round 1 of the Spec Series for Season 22.

This season we are running a rather different format with just one Intermediate Long race & the same chassis for everyone. The races will be a mixture of 65 Mod & the new 69 Extra. Due to some technical issues over at SROU HQ we can’t import 69x races at the current time so we’re starting the series with 65 cars.

The circuit is the ’55 version of Aintree & we are using the Lotus 33.The track can be downloaded here aintree (http://gpltd.bcsims.com/include/downloadtrack.php?&track=aintree&track_link=http://srmz.net/index.php?s=&showtopic=1284&view=findpost&p=8476)

There is no handicapping & all participants will run in one division.

Unlimited resets are allowed but every Shift R must be followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane. If you Reset on the last lap a 30 second time penalty will be awarded.
Incidents should be reported in the usual way.
In line with other divisions the races will be subject to full moderation  in the red zone – which will be up to the exit of Country corner.

In line with our new procedures, the server will be started a little early tomorrow but you are all on your honour to do the qualifying in the last 30 minutes! ;)

As mentioned Paul will be starting the server for the race as I have some temporary connection problems.
For Specs we normally use the GPL defaults for race length. For Aintree Int Long is 27 laps but we've manually adjusted to 22 laps as that's around the usual 40 minute mark.

Doesn't look like I'm going to race, as virgin media have playe yet another blinder and have another Friday night network problem on their cable broadband.

Just a touch miffed!

Sorry to hear that Steve. I've been on Virgin since mide-way through season 21 and its been perfect ( unlike the preceding orange "connection")

Very difficult race for me, tonight  :-\

I was happy with my 6th position on the starting grid, ...but then the troubles began :
I made a good start but had to slower to avoid to collide with Kinghiro ...unfortunately Blito hit my rear right wheel and so I had to start a pursuit race which was a disaster !
I spun on the chicane at the end of the 1st race and lost again several positions.

Then I made a big mistake on the 8th lap and hit Axel. Sorry for that, Axel, I was surprised by your braking.

Hopefully, even for the 9th or 10th position, the race was very pleasant with a hard and nice battle with Fulvio during the ten last laps.
On the last lap, I was surprised by the speed of Raoni and completely lost the control of my green car in the chicane just before the finish. I also lost 3 places (Raoni, Fulvio and Axel overtook me ) in that move!

(Sorry for my bad English, don't hesitate to correct me)

I had a great race. I got caught behind the car infront of me who had a bad start but I only lost one spot.during the first 7-8 laps I got chased by Juha who was quick.no idea why he qualed only to 9 th. But this was a difficult track to pass. He had the chance on the long straight once but he did the righthander before so much better than me so he caught me a bit early and lost momentum. shortly after he came by into t2 but thats a tricky place to have inner track and he lost his rear. Fully understanding your frustration Juha I would have quit also.
The rest of the race I was alone and only met a few backlappers who gave me a scary moment on last lap buy veing sideways midtrack but I had 12 secs down to 4 th so I almost went to a full stop to gently pass. Very happy with 3 rd:).
The baclappers were ok with me this race, but I heard someone had problems. I also had that couple of times since my "comeback". An understanding of blueflag is a must to drive in a league, and  I don t see any reason to make the passes so difficult. I tend to keep some sistance in tricky parts of the tracks in case they do a mistake but the expected slow down to let me by doesn t come on the straight after and I m up on their tail on the next tricky part. And so it goes on.
I remember I read somewhere inguidelines when I started that "a backlapper should drive normally and let the catching car work it s way through." I had a  nightmare on monaco s21 for 2 full laps and lost like 10 secs.this guideline from our sporting regulations are better:

Lapping

*Any driver who is about to be lapped may not deliberately block or race the lapping driver, and must allow the lapping driver to pass at the first safe opportunity.

plain and simple :)

I almost forgot:grats with excellent driving and deserved win evil:)

Miniblood was a bit random but Dad was busy telling him off... wasn't I Joe? ;) He'll learn. If there is ONE thing I can teach him it is about getting passed. I am just about the most experienced lapee in UKGPL  ;D

Not sure wether to be pleased or disappointed with Aintree.  I wasn't quick here at all thru practice, struggling to complete 3 laps on the trot. Qually was the same deal and very frustrating. I think I managed to better my practice times in Qually....still only good for 10th place on the grid. Extraordinary speed from the Evil one, whom ALWAYS complains about having to drive the "green cars"    :alien:
Got off the line smartly at the start, just in time to arrive at Dave Rainier and Blito's collision in front of the pits. Got going again after skittling half the pit crews standing in their boxes, in 8th place. 10th to 8th in the space of 1 accident??...Highly irregular. Caught and passed Johnny O midway thru lap 3 and set off in pursuit of teamie KingHiro and Juha as they traded blows a few seconds up the road. Over the next couple of laps found myself reeling them in and to my surprise, by the end of lap 7 I was right on Juha's hammer. Obviously their jousting held them up considerably and allowed me to creep up behind.T2, lap 8 and Juha finally makes a run up the inside of Tom. Tom see's him coming and sportingly hangs out wide to allow Juha thru. With eyes out on stalks  :o  I couldn't believe my luck as my arrival at Turn 2 allowed me to follow Juha thru the doorway left open by Tom. I should have known it was too good to be true. Juha spun off to the right as he drove off the corner, bounced back trackside off the furniture and spun me as well.  :-\ This let Tom off the hook and he proceeded to run away and hide. ??? Chasing Tom was fine til he got far enough ahead, then the concentration wandered and a couple of silly spins.....with one reset and s n g followed.
Set a Pb of 1:49.87 trying to chase Tom down and keep ahead of a charging Jonny O. But this was the only highpoint of the second half of the race  >:(  Straggled home in 6th...when 4th should have been my lot. Very well done to the podium, especially Clive for his Vettel-like display. Take that bloody KERS off him!!
Very surprised that I was competitive after the rather ordinary displays in Practice and Qually. Special mentions to Jonny O and Blito for sticking to their guns and reaping reward after inauspicious beginnings. Thanks to Bernie for being the gentleman he is, as I lapped him on lap 15.

I think my lap 13 spin was less due to poor concentration, rather the shock of seeing Raoni, parked up, and in the phone box answering the phone!!

Well, mostly that was a great race but I must admit the start was messy :(
I've reviewed the replay and this is what happened -
2nd placed Frizzo bogs his engine at the start and is slow off the line causing 4th placed Kinghiro to lift momentarily. 6th placed Ranier has made a good start but is immediately on the back of KH and jinks left whilst braking. 8th placed Blito has made a flyer of a start and comes upon the braking DR and has insuficient time to react and there is contact.... Let the moderator deide who was to blame for that one :(
Otherwise I was really pleased with my pace and was able to run consistantly and make few errors. Really pleased with 5th :)

My connection came back briefly, but was so intermittent it only allowed me to complete 1 Q lap before disconnecting.

I decided not to even attempt the race with a dodgy connection, its one of my pet hates when cars keep disappearing so wasn't going to risk having it happen myself.

Doesn't look like I'd have been that good anyway as I was around a 1:51 laptime which appears to be not very competitive.

Grats on your win Clive.

Rub it in will ya  :'(

Seroiusly though , well done Geoff , I was so far off the pace here I was thinking why do I bother  ::)

After the lap 1 incedent when I got delayed I never saw another car until lappery time .

Race finished early when I took a wheel off trying to break the world speed record through the chicane .

Poor show from me as I was the Local boy Aintree being just a few miles up the road from where I live

My laptimes were in 50 s together juha and stayed there when I was alone after even with lighter car. maybe the tow gave more than you think ;)

This was a mixed one for me...

Thanks to the longer Quali and my early joining, I had no pressure to get my routine on this challenging track. Even though I made my best lap in the last lap. But in the middle with all drivers on the road I had no chance to finish a fast lap...

My race began with a good start following Nathan in 3rd position but with a fast following Raoni in my back. I knew he is way faster and this made me nervous. I tried to slow down a little to make Raoni pass but he didn't. In lap 4 I wanted to go an extra wide line through T4 but failed by touching the grass and then kissing the fence...
A s+R followed by a S+G was the result and I rejoined somewhere in 13th position. Battleing with David and Fulvio had an end when I braked a little early and David kissed my back (imo was a racing incident 50:50, David).
Another s+R followed by a S+G was the result and for the rest of the race I stayed on the road, let Raoni pass when he had finished his phonecall and was surprised by a spinning David in the last corner what made me a lucky 10th :D

A great race in a great track! :)

I was confortable with my setup, doing laps in high 1:47 or 1:48. Evil did a great job on qualy and I was placed my car in 2nd, which was a good place to start.

As always, I lost some ground at the start because of the keyboard, holding Tom and Blito (sorry guys! :( ). Went down to 4th, just ahead Evil, Natan and Cookie. The first laps were very fun, trying to pass Cookie, but he was a little faster on the straights. A very hard fight, but clean and fair. Thanks Cookie! ;)

After passing Cookie, I catched Natan's car and started a good battle too. Passed him once, but then a backmarker spun in front of me and I couldn't avoid the crash. Got back to 3rd, and when I was trying to pass Natan, the phone rang and I had to answer. Stopped my car outside the track and, when I got back to the track, was 12th.

Trying to recover some ground, I passed some cars, but was knocked off by Mini when I was trying to lap him. I think he didn't saw the blue flags and was thinking that I was a driver who was trying to get his position. Anyway, no problem Mini, this happens...just take notice next time if the blue flags are appearing to you or not or if pribluda is showing all cars on track ;)

On last lap, I was close to Fulvio and Rainer, who were fighting a lot for the 8th place. Fulvio made a little mistake on 2nd sector and I overtok him. Some corners later, I got the draft at the long straight and went outside Rainer. We both divided the braking zone, but seems he lost the control and went off the track. So I brought my car to the 8th place.

Looking at my times, it wasn't a good result....but it was a great race, with very nice and fair fights, and that's what really matter!

Grats Evil for a dominant win, Natan and Tom for the podium, and for my team mate Jonny for the excellent 4th place!
